you may be able to take the magnets out of the metal rail, but the polarity of the magnets make it unlikely that tools will stay on the line of the magnet if its holding to 'ground' on both sides.

I'm not all that versed in magnetics, but I know on the ones I have the magnetic fields interfere with each other due to proximity, wrenches will slide if not held in place if you get the magnets too close or change the polarity,

The magnets seem to be glued pretty securely into the rails, and it doesn't seem like I'll be able to get them out without damaging the magnets.

I stopped by HF today and purchased a couple sets of the rectangular magnets. They stick to the rails very well and none of the wrenches are sliding off... although there are a couple of places on the rail where the wrenches don't seem to stick as strongly, but I'm able to avoid those areas.

The reason I don't want to bolt them into place is because I want to have the flexibility to move the rails around as needed.

Damn Hanson socket organizers drive me crazy, talk about OCD, the 1/4" sets are Snap On, the 3/8" SAE impacts are Cornwell, the 3/8" Metric impacts are Matco (no f*cking 6mm or 7mm in std), the 3/8" SAE Chrome are old Matco (Wright) (bought two sets of std and deep back in 1982 and the 3/8" Chrome are Snap On.

I have to stop in to work tonight and grab some drill bits, I'll get a pic of both sides of the lid, so you can see how minimal it is if you decide you should go that way.

the rivets heads are the most unobtrusive way to mount securely to the lid long term. I think when my OCD has time to kick in at this new job I'll get some red paint and hit the rivet heads so they will be less visible (and I just thought of it looking at the pic lol).

@ Grooveking :: Will those wrenches stay there with the lid closed? And if so, what is the name of the holders or where do you get them?

Any homemade tool/service carts out there?

Thought you'd never ask.

I have a field full of old Buicks and have been considering rigging up a standard cart with large tires to pull around while pulling parts. Happened to find this on Craigs List for $100. Immediately paypaled the payment and this last Saturday my wife and I :3gears: into the North Georgia mountains to a little town called Talking Rock and picked it up. The town was holding a fall festival and we had a great time there in addition to meeting a fellow Marine who built this thing and no longer has a need for it. Life is good. Heres the listing:

All terrain chest made of thick gauge steel (doors are 1/8" plate steel) with 8" tires. Has fold down side tables, two seperate compartments (keyed alike) with 4 shelves total. Any standard tool box fits & clamps to the top with a parts tray beside. Has parking brake and two on-board (self retracting) power cord reels (you can work 25 ft. from power source, and 25 ft. from box, total 50 ft.) This box is EXTREME DUTY and cant be over loaded!! Moves all your tools around the shop or outside with ease. Gravel, ruts, items on floor, bare ground is no problem! The entire box is built to last more than a lifetime.(36 x 36 x 13)

This baby steers great, although it looks a little tipsy, because the base is so wide it travels over rough terrain great. Just don't let the front wheel hit a stump hole. Not sure what I will do to spruce it up a little. Any thoughts? Considering Buick Engine green paint with a few Buick stickers. I think it has sort of a folk artsy look to it already. I also plan on mounting a fan on the side.

Nice cart for sure, especially for a single Ben Franklin. Got me thinking, there is a guy in my next of the woods with a large fenced in area full of Buicks. I think I'll ride over there this weekend and take another peek through the fence. He has some beauties last time I looked a few years ago.

Take your camera

This guy definitely spent some time on this thing, and did some nice welds.

You guys are making me want one of these KRSC46 carts. I have a Mac cart and haven't been happy with it for a while. Dont have a pic right now

But to all those with the top of their cart full of tools. Are you putting each socket or wrench back up every time you need a different size? Or do you have a separate cart you lay tools in? Just curious

Some guys tease me, but I try to keep tools on the cart if I am not using it. Otherwise, I spend more time looking for it than I would have if I had just put it away in the first place.

I wheel my cart close to where I need my tools, so it's not too much effort to put them back each time. I will say, however, that if I know I'll need it again right away I will sometimes leave it out.

and here's the simple cart I use. It moves around the garage easily and fits well under either of my work benches, out of the way, when not in use.

Mr Jean that is a awesome idea for the work bench where you put it in the middle.

Thanks Holt, it works real well for me. I've got a second one on the back wall. They both can be moved around for different cars/projects, whenever needed too.

I posted these photos somewhere else as well one here but since it applies to this, here goes. I wanted to buy some "extreme green" Snap on cart but didn't like the drawer setups on the Snap ons. I like little drawers for some things like the old boxes had, and I like long drawers for some things, and wide drawers for some things. Long story short, I couldn't find exactly what I want new, so I am going old and am going to sand them down either refurbish or replace the slides (on the long drawers I'll probably double up the slides as I did in my last box refurb). I'm looking for a good deal on a top cabinet from a double bay still (matco mb4225tc preferred) if anyone knows of one.

I really like my blue point cart, I don't have any complaints. It rolls really smooth and the drawer detents feel good. And the other day I noticed it has grease zerks on the casters. I bought it used for $300, my SO guy printed me out the parts list for it so I could order the second side can tray and any other items I might need which was nice.

Yes, those are the ez red wrenches, I love them but I don't have anyone to warranty my breaking/broken ones. And hold your horses on the whole "all comfort grip ratchets" statement. I can spot 3 hard handle ratchets and there are 4 more on the cart you can't see. So by my count im pretty even. And I live up north where ratchets get bitter cold in the winter.

As for the makita's they came in a silver Box as a kit with that foam insert in in. I just pulled the insert out and put it in my cart. Although every night before I lock my cart I have to lay the driver and impact on there sides or the top won't close.

here are my 2 carts I use for work. One has most of the tools I use daily and the other is my "hardware" cart. I also have one set up for welding but don't have any pics of that ugly looking thing!

Ok, very nice. Grease fittings, sweet. Good to know you like it.
Ah what a burn. So basically when they're gone, they're gone for good? haha oh ok cool. I guess I meant to say most as I did see a couple chrome but no way to see the ones on the cart that I can't see lol. Do you prefer handles or chrome? (even in summer when temp is not a factor)
