I read through this whole topic a while back and don't remember seeing where anyone had added an intermediate chest below their 5 drawer HF. I've done some searching online and there are some decent boxes that would fit, granted not perfectly. Kodiak had what I was interested in, a 3 drawer intermediate (sorry don't have the link handy, it was on Sears website).

Has anybody done this? If so what particular box did you use?

I think this is the latest, stripped a bunch of stuff off I didn't routinely use.I took off about 50 sockets and same for screwdrivers and pliers.

Bad-***! Now that box has character. I would leave it how it is. You'll get all confused if you get a new box. You won't be able to find anything.

Hahaha...not at all.
I just kept upgrading as the deals came along...
I use these carts as my toolbox.

I had just purchased a brand new Snap-on 40" wide toolbox in 2005 when our shop burned to the ground (December 26th, 2005).

...working near minimum wage jobs mostly and then for Wal-Mart combine with a poor marriage with a woman who hated my hobby (Mopar muscle cars) it has been an extremely LOOONGGG road of recovery.
The good news is that I have got back on track, found the perfect woman (for me) and my tool collection is about as complete as it needs to get.

After the fire (in early 2006) the Matco Tools rep sold me a literally brand new condition trade in MSC4R cart with side shelf for $375.00. I used that as my toolbox until 2012.
...in 2011 my dad opened his own shop finally so I moved my nice MSC4R out to the shop, and not long after saw one in good shape on C/L, which I picked up for $225! I used that at home in my personal garage with my spare tools.

Some time around 2007 my dad had received a Snap-on 3-drawer cart as a gift since the local rep had a truck load of them and they were $350.00.
Not long after the paint started coming off and the wheels rusted up. after about 3 years Snap-on finally gave him a new updated KRSC33PBO cart.

I was severely outgrowing my small Matco cart, so I started looking around and found my Snap-on KRSC40A for $550.00. I bought it and figured I would just add drawers as money allowed...
I always searched for used KRSC46's as I figured it'd be cheaper to get another one and make one with all 4" drawers and sell off the pirated one that then would have two 8" drawers and a 12" drawer. At any rate I never found one reasonable enough, and when I did they were a different color, of course.

Once my marriage was dissolving and since I now had the KRSC40A I sold off my spare Matco MSC4R to a buddy for $335.00.

Then sold the still mint Matco MSC4R (pictured) with side shelf for $425.00 on Craigslist.

My dad had wanted a full drawer tool cart also, so when my buddy mentioned wanting to upgrade to a box, I bought his yellow Cornwell cart off him for $425.00 as a gift for my father.

I then sold his nearly new Snap-on KRSC33PBO cart for $450.00!

So currently I am down to the green Snap-on KRSC46, red Snap-on KRSC40A (not sure if I'll sell it OR still try to find more drawers for it and give it to my dad & sell the Cornwell cart), and the yellow Cornwell carts.

I know that turned out to be wayyyy longer of a story than I thought it would be....lol
Not too mention how confusing it must be for everyone else to rear through...hahahaha

... This is how I have my red Snap-on KRSC40A set up (The new green KRSC46GPJJ has not been touched yet...)

I absolutely L-O-V-E having my sockets in the top compartment...THE reason I am sticking with the KRSC46 carts instead of buying a (couple of) KRA2106's/KRA4107's (or even KRA4813's like what I had before; with the optional 2-drawer "center" section added on top).

ive worked out of the harbor freight 5 drawer cart for over two years. it hasnt let me down yet. and its typically 200 bucks or less. that leaves you 100 bones for tools.

remember, a million dollar tool box thats empty wont do you much good, but a 20 dollar box full of tools opens up your possibilities.

Here is my current blue point tool cart. Talked to my snap on dealer about upgrading to a krsc416 but he wouldn't budge on the price or give me anything on trade in of my cart. So I guess I am kinda on the fence with this one right now.

Thanks guys for the advise im going to take it and get that cart.

I also have the HF 5-drawer cart, I think that you will like it. Given the price and quality, it makes a great starter box for moving around. And, if you decide you need more room but aren't ready for a full box, you can modify it to suit your needs without agonizing about screwing with a more expensive cart.

For ideas about what you can do to it, try reading this thread :

I don't think there is a big mark up for dealers on the krsc line of carts. I waited till snap on had a 10% off promo and got mine. As far as the trade in that's bs on your dealers part. The 10% deal will come again I'm sure so if u can wait for that and try to sell yoir blue point cart on craigs list or just take it hone. (If you need one at home)

Yeah, that's really lame that your dealer won't give you trade in credit on a brand he sells.

I had one of my buddies check with his dealer about getting a deal and he mentioned the same thing about there not being a large markup on these carts which is understandable. His dealer did mention the 15-25% promo's and to wait for one of those to come up in a few months. As for my dealer he never mentioned anything about promo's and refuses trade in's. The week before I even asked about trade in on a krl7022 and he still wouldn't do anything.

I has same msc750 as your one. I love it.... I had no problems as it was demo on tool truck for while.. So I got it and love it. What is wrong with old one? Slides, drawer or lock problem?

It was on going problems. The latches on the top were bent when I got it hitting the cart each time I tried to close it damaging the paint, I had to bend them. Then when you locked it the drawers would not lock unless you jiggled the bottom drawer then you would hear the thunk and it would be locked. The slides every one of them was horrible would not open all the way unless you jerked the heck out of it for the last 4 inches or so of travel. The top struts for the lid bent somehow, the finish on the blue was very poor, there were some spots where the paint or powder coat was discolored like something got on it and ran down in a drip like spot. Surely they test the finish with chemicals used in a shop? Not to mention I cleaned it about every 3 days, had wax on it etc I was treating it better than most. Chrome handle cover things were bubbling up, was told those were replaceable. Never got a new set. Like the lay out of the cart the build quality of that one I got was pretty crappy especially for 1700 list retail price and only a 1 year warranty. They push all this "it's made at our USA toolbox factory" bs then they only give you a 1 year warranty when you can get a snap on cart for $105 LESS with a lifetime warranty come on Matco is this the best you can do? I am sure many people would have said i was nit picking or they may have not noticed any of the he issues with it. But I am on this site so most of us are a little more crazy about tools and storage and when you buy a 1700$ cart the thing should be perfect. It's just like the Mac guy tries to sell me a box or cart weekly and I tell him you don't want to sell me that I will complain and get it warrantied eventually.

They did in the end take care of me and give me a new cart with a different finish (silver vein) and I appreciate that this one all works perfectly at this point how it should. They revised the handle, the drawers roll out perfectly, the detents are much firmer (I like), the casters roll better and it's not wobbly I thought it was the floor all this time but It was the cart apparently. I am really hoping this one lasts many years or it will be traded off to my great snap on driver.

The best I have seen on cart promo discounts as of late has been 15% from snap on. They don't move much on the price of carts but boxes can be had for quite a discount. The bigger boxes that is.

Oh I see that. That is a lot of issues you had with blue msc750... My msc750 do good job for me even too much tools in each drawers.

I was plan to get a snap on krsc serie as 40" wide but Matco guy gave me better trade in value on older Msc4 so I traded it in and paid cash for it. All drawers work good since it was demo so lot of techs touch and open/closed the drawers a lot while it was in tool truck for while.. Snap on offered a 100 lbs slides while Matco offered a 140lbs. But snap on cart can be double slides but bring more money. Biggest thing is I like the Matco casters as larger than snap on's. I did math and decided of pro and con of both snap on and Matco. Matco has more pro than snap on. So I went for Matco.
