I guess I am the world traveler. I have been to Bryan and Green Springs. I am Born and raised in lovely Cleveland(west side). My very good friend was a Police Officer in Green Springs for a few years.

Sorry to get off topic, I promise I'll stop after he answers my question..bad me.

This box belongs to a very good friend of mine that just retired after a long carrier as a motorcycle mechanic for the LAPD.

Just acquired a second Snap On "SS" box in extreme green. I think I'm good in the toolbox department for a long time to come. Found both within 2 months of each other in the same town about 10 minutes apart from one another. First for $2000 and the second for $2,250. The SO rep for these guys must've had a "thing" for the green SS boxes...

I have to think now. I can't remember if he was a cop in GS and lived in Clyde or vice versa. Either way is still a one horse show. I do remember he was part time.

You're my hero of the day Amber lamps. I've been debating with myself for a while trying to figure if it was cost effective to do just that. The difference is I've bought a 41" box, big mistake, should've got a 54" at the minimum. With my boxes it's not possible to get all the sockets in their own drawer and combo wrenches in their own drawer also. I have one full size drawer and the top. I'd like to build a wood middle box with one really deep drawer that will have sliders in it so you can make the best of the depth. That will mean stuff I dont access very often will be in the top and I'll have to make a step to stand on, but I want to get my stuff organized.

Some NICE stuff posted on the last few pages. I've moved some things around, acquired some more tools and done some more organizing since I last posted. Next up are my pliers and screwdriver drawers lol.

Forgive some of the empty spots, a few sockets were on my cart at the time

Compared to the alternatives, what I did was super inexpensive and modular. I think I put out $120 for the box top, side walls, and top drawer. The second drawer was made from leftovers from the first drawer and only cost me the slides that I think were right at $50/set. Third draw I used thinner plywood for the bottom as I don't see that drawer ever holding the weight of the top drawer. I think it was something like $20 for the inner 12" slides, $20 for the plywood (with leftovers for a 4th drawer), and $3.50 for each section of 1x4 for the sides. No way around saying that it is quite the bang for the buck.

The best part is that Home Depot has made all the plywood cuts (perfectly, I may add) for me at no charge and I've cut all the pine on a simple chop saw at home.

If you plan on putting boxes on top of your wooden box, make sure you reinforce the top sheet of plywood. Top boxes are heavier than you think when loaded and can bow even the strongest of plywood. Ask me how I know.

Bad, here is the back of drawer #3 with the inner drawer forward. I made the inner drawer 12"x36" with 12" slides.

GTA Matt, is that set of your's I've circled below the same as mine? Mine is AP Astro 1/4" drive, flex, metric.

Seems like such a random oddball set. I picked up that set at a local industrial supply house for about $30. Don't get me wrong, I Love Mine.... If it is the same set, it's just sorta cool that I've got the same set in my top drawer that a pro has in his. :rocker: OK, so yours isn't in the top drawer, but it's close, damn it. :D

Yup, those are AP's. I have been VERY impressed with them. I'm not loyal to any one brand, whatever gets the job done without breaking. The rest of that drawer is mac, matco and vim, those AP's have earned their keep for sure.

Younger guy here, I don't work in the field but I do enjoy doing my own work on my vehicles and around my house and there's nothing that substitutes having the right tool for the job.
Picked up this older pro top cabinet a month ago in new cond. for $60, then found the bottom on clearance for $150. Not a bad set for the price. The top will probably outlive myself and my children, the bottom is nothing fancy but holds my tools and works well for the money(you'd be crazy to pay full price for it!)
Still getting organized, let me know what you think!

It's a great looking box and a nice set up. I see you have the pittsburg torque wrench from HF. Have you used it much? What do you think?

And the Not-Snap-On box. Thanks to some good forum members they advised that this is a mislabeled older craftsman box, $40.

And I might as well throw in the go-bags:

Hey, I noticed my pictures showed up as thumbnails that had to be clicked on to be seen, yet other guys are posting nicely sized pictures that need not be clicked on to be seen. What can I do differently? I'd like mine to look like yours. :D:D

I just use "" tags.[/QUOTE]

Are you hosting the pictures somewhere else? I downloaded them onto the site. That has got to be my problem. Any suggestions on hosting sites? ....or am I getting way off topic? :dunno:

Would you honestly be able to identify which of your ratchets or extensions is missing if someone were to take one?

 Yes I would. My kids take one and I can smell it. Each one does a different job. Some are Loaners too. Crack head neighbor wants to borrow a 3/8 and he's getting one of my GearHeads. My brother needs one he's getting a Craftsman. Nobody gets to touch the Snap On or Blackhawk....Nobody.

looking good amber lamps

Are you getting smoked out from the fires in Yosemite?

TwoInch, nice setup! Glad to know that I'm not the only one who doesn't worry about screwdrivers and pliers being perfectly lined up in the drawer. They're tools for gods sake!
