WOODEN box pics please

Go back to page 504

Ya, it's a box. What's to see? It's about this tall and about that wide and about so deep. What's ya wanna know?

Had no plans, no drawings, no examples, and no nothin'. I just measured the old toolboxes and made sure I had two inches on either side. Went to Rockler and picked up some slides. Measured them and found they were 3/4" thick, multiplied that by two, and had the 3/4" plywood cut accordingly. Top is 3" wider than the drawers. How complicated should it have been? :dunno:

Here is a couple close ups of the drawer corners with a cameo of the mistress that keeps me up at night and entertained on the weekends.

How do you like the Matco zero degree flex wrenches?

Used to love them, use SO now, the Matco design that"fits 6 different" fasteners isn't all that great, I find them getting stuck all of them time and having to tap them off with a hammer. Find myself using them more for serpentine belt tensioner tools...:dunno:

While you might think it's no big deal, there I like it. Heck, I will probably copy it. I am always a fan of things you make yourself vs. running out and buying the biggest truck box.

Very nice, and impressed as well.

I finally broke down and bought the top chest last night while it was on sale. I had planned on just leaving the 26" CMan box up there to leave me some work space but I picked up a heavy duty steel work station earlier in the week. That will give me my space back. Will have pics of that this evening.

Autophilia??? I saw a TV show about that on the BBC :)

 Ya, and to make maters worse, she was a gift from my wife. :eyecrazy:

....and about the wooden box... I guess I could reverse engineer it and make some plans or at least a list of materials needed and general description. The real economical way to do it would have been to make the drawers 24 x 48 so that 4 drawers could be cut from a single sheet of plywood. Going to 52, I only got 2 drawers per sheet.

I always have to keep in the back of my head one thought: Would this be good enough for my brother? Now that's a dude that can play with.

TwoInch, nice setup! Glad to know that I'm not the only one who doesn't worry about screwdrivers and pliers being perfectly lined up in the drawer. They're tools for gods sake!

my plier drawer has recently been downsized, it was stacked at least double whats in it now. most of which i didnt use, and many duplicates. the drawer was terribly heavy, so i started handing them out to family and friends, anyone who would take em...

screwdrivers... well they are screwdrivers. got a million. use about 5 of them, the rest are back ups and pry bars.

i surprised we dont see more of the coiled solid wire wrench organizers. i dont know of a way that you can condense more wrenches into a drawer than with them all on edge like that. maybe the wire coils arent pretty enough.... doesnt bother me one bit. first pic is metric wrenches, and second less organized drawer is SAE.

bottom hammer/clamp drawer recently was downsized also. bunch of unneeded **** was removed.

 Yes I would. My kids take one and I can smell it. Each one does a different job. Some are Loaners too. Crack head neighbor wants to borrow a 3/8 and he's getting one of my GearHeads. My brother needs one he's getting a Craftsman. Nobody gets to touch the Snap On or Blackhawk....Nobody.

Are you getting smoked out from the fires in Yosemite?

So if he's a "crackhead" why would you even loan him anything? Tell him to go buy his own stuff.

I think you hit the nail on the head! It has to look pretty. I use wire coils...I don't care how it looks, just need to use the space wisely.

No dovetails?

Man, you guys are brutal. Something tells me this is turning into some sort of initiation ritual. :scared:

The crack head neighbor and I go back about 35 years. My home was originally owned by the parents of a friend of mine.....and the laws are such that I can't shoot him.

....and NO, No dovetails!!! That would require me to have actually put some effort into it. I do believe my brother has the capability to do that, but Home Depot didn't offer that service. :dunno:

Well I have been wanting to get my five minutes of fame but keep forgetting to get a pic. Today I was just sitting there waiting on parts and I couldn't help but notice the ole dirty ***** was begging to have her picture takin so I took a couple. She said it was too close and you could see she needed a bath, so we did some long distance shots so you guys don't judge her.. :D

Here is my box i have been setting up the last few months. its the harbor freight 44" box, its still a work in progress.I have the sockets on kobalt trays. I like the organization but they take up a lot of room. I had them on harbor freight plastic socket rails for a while.

I may buy the end cab for more room.

My "new" work tool box. Replacing my cheapo Husky 36" stack, that'll come home. I was going to paint it but had second thoughts, already have enough projects and things to do and I would like to start using the box ASAP anyways.

It needs a handle, anyone know where to find a heavy duty handle? I was gonna just ask Snap On guy if he could order me a replacement but does anyone else know any sources for that kinda stuff?

I was also debating on putting D-rings on the upper 4 corners, anyone ever done something like that before? Waste of time?

Tying down in a truck bed, they get moved between our facilities often and usually just get a big ratchet strap around them.

Is that a granted work top? That seems a little odd.

Good looking box there, I have one just like it only in grey. I am wondering though if you have problems with the drawer liners sliding up when you close the drawers? I upgraded from a snap on krl722 that never had that problem before.

Never had a problem with the door liners. But every drawer is full which means a lot of weight. I do have a problem with 1 drwarer being a little harder to open than the others. I really like the box minus the size. I will be stepping up to a big epic soon. I will say though that I think the Mac boxes FEEL better built than any of the snap ons. I just hate how the SO handles feel so cheap and plastic when you open a drawer on the SO. but SO is a lot prettier and bigger.
