With all this Montezuma talk, here's my new toolbox.

Nice to have the 24" depth. Still need to transfer everything from my old setup.
This is beautiful. Great box!! I bought the Masterforce box from Menards (also made by Quality Craft) and my local auto shop color matched the handles from this after Montezuma sent me one. I'll be re-painting the green handles when the weather gets closer to 50-60 degrees. Should look amazing when done.

It was thread that got me to test about the Toolbox Widgets for my screw drivers and not having to hear my screw drivers roll around is so nice! I may have opened and closed the drawer a couple times just to bask in the quiet. Also the magnet are strong enough to work through drawer liners if that was something you were concerned about. You asked me about them when I posted the Toyota Vessel branded nut drivers.

I know you were sour on jp-carparts.com but you can get the screwdrivers from them too.

Completely forgot. I will have to take a second look back at that later.

Bad Mojo, I like them too. Can not find them on the site - do you remember part numbers or how you found them?

I didn't end up ordering these from a traditional parts vendor. ASR has them in kits. They have some other special Toyota tools specific to Land Cruisers if that is your jam as well.

Got another drawer done on my new tool/box setup... couldn't get any toolbox widgets that work well for the thicker extensions, so went with toolganizer... they work fine, basically just 3d printed blocks with holes/magnets. They have different colors available so I went with a different color for each size (1/4, 3/8, 1/2) All new Tekton wratchets and extensions, only thing old in there are the two torque wrenches.

Working on the wrench drawer next I think.

Got a third drawer done on my new USG toolbox setup, populated with a new driver set from Tekton... and a set of punches/chisels. Still trying to figure out which wrenches/pliers I want to pick up, those will be the last two major drawers of new tools.

The chisels are in the USG 26" cabinet... and I still need to figure how how I want them organized, if I don't just keep them in the roll they came in.

Made more progress on getting the hutch together last night. Would like to see what else is offered that is compatible with the slots in the back - the spot to put papers (on the right) isn't really that useful. It might disappear in favor of another magnet bar...

What magnet bar is that?

Kobalt - I stripped all the vivid-blue labels off...

A warning - they are strong. Like - they'll injure you if you have two of them close together and they suddenly come together with something you value in the way. Seriously - be thoughtful when handling them.

They were a PITA to remove from the lid of my Full Bank. I put a bit of duct tape on the back to make it a little easier to get them on/off - helps reduce scratching, too.

I had two Vim Magrails bite a finger like that. I didn't like them prior to that, the magnet was too strong for me, and they were going to eventually go, but that blood blister called for immediate replacement.

I'll have to look at that Kobalt magnet strip. I bought a generic kitchen style strip off Amazon and it wasn't too impressive. Yes, it's impossible to pry off the toolbox without the felt I put on the back, but the pull on the front was more for a set of knives than even a long blow gun.

Just searched, and they apparently still sell it: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Kobalt-Steel-12-in-Tool-Bar-Magnetic-Accessory/1000266015

I watched this entire video the other night (yes, I need a life) and thought of this thread.

Tool box tour starts at 31:10.

Impressive collection. Watch it at 2X speed. The organization is odd with all sorts of stuff like ratchets spread across multiple drawers in multiple boxes across 20 linear feet. I get that he has purchased acres of storage space, but there's all sorts of stuff that doesn't need to be stored in a home box: gloves, c-clamps, ratcheting straps....

My old race box had the drivers stored like that but mostly bigger stuff and several of the size needed for Dzus fasteners. Handles solid edge to edge on the ends, and the blades facing the entire drawer was full and they didn't move, even if traveling I did have rows of "Conveyor" magnets for them for side to side movement and all the sockets stood on end in rows on rows of the same 2X1" magnets. No fussing with any rails or those "snap in" rails.

If you watch it in 1x with audio he often says, “haven’t used it” quite a lot.

Now I can’t cast stones because I do have some tools like that. But I’m currently operating out of a 26” x 18” box.

I mean, you don't really need audio to figure out that dude hasn't used quite a bit of it.

:D Yeah, of course that's fine; I'm sure a lot of pics from members here would look similar. I'm guilty of that as well.... But damn, that's a lot of stuff.

Redid my plier drawer

IMG_1852.jpegIMG_1851.jpeg

Isn't the plier rack an amazing doodad? I was so surprised of how much better I can access my pliers as they're not all stacked on top of each other and the one I need always seems to be at least 3 down.

The Ernst racks are a game changer. I had the PlyWorx wire racks for some time and recently switched to Ernst. WOW. I was so tired of the pliers flopping over in the wire racks. It looks so good and makes life so much easier when they stay upright.

When you guys get new tools do you just toss the plastic cases they came in?
unless it's something I'm going to keep in the case, yes. I've got some kits (pullers, radiator pressure tester, tube flaring, ...) that I keep in the case, because it's easier to keep everything together that way. I keep them on shelves, not in a toolbox, so space wasted by the case is less of an issue. Most other cases are thrown away, and tools put in the appropriate spot in a tool box. I do have one socket set in its blowmolded case, because it's pretty much a full set, and it's easy to grab it and be sure I've got the socket I need when going on the road.

One thing you might find the cases useful for is organizing the tools in a larger drawer.

The micro Torx set in the left rear of this picture is organized very well in a section that was trimmed out of the original, much larger blow molded case, with a bandsaw.
IMG_4028_Original.jpeg
The digital calipers are also stored in a section cut from the original case.

I keep them.

I keep front end service sets and the likes in the cases. And I even keep the empty cases (from which I remove tools) thinking one day I’ll need them.

I’ve never needed them. But I still keep them. Because I’m an idiot like that.
Kinda of like the tote of cables I might need someday or the scrap wood I have laying around 🤣

Blow mold cases I'd keep. The "impervious to anything" hot sealed rack packaging? Unlikely, unless it could be re-purposed like Jgaz showed. I have a coupe of 4 slot AA paks I use like that for rechargeables I rotate.
