You're off to a nice start...looks like a nice, quality assortment of tools, too. I started with a simple steeple-top box (on the previous page) and have migrated to three boxes of 11 drawers total. They are all full now... if I was starting over, I think I'd go the same way you did, with the 11-drawer HF model...lots of storage space, plus, I like the side cabinet that is available.

I'd do tape too. I have the same box, and i have some open drawers as well. I almost resorted to putting my woodworking tools in there to fill it up.

looks like a good start. i dont see a problem w/ the tape. asides from painting or engraving it, thats the next best way

only comment i have is do yourself a favor and pick up some ball pein hammers. hf sales a set for 20 bucks. http://www.harborfreight.com/5-piece-fiberglass-handle-ball-pein-hammer-set-39217.html

i have the wood handled versions at home as i like the feel of the wood handle over composite.

my suggestion for ball pein hammers is due to claw hammers are a no go on autos. you already have a good brass and deadblow hammer.

FYI I just picked up a 16 and a 24oz vaughn ball pien's on clearance at Home Depot for 7 to 8 bucks each. Made in USA and very nice quality. I had to search a bit for them but they were on the end of an isle in the "permanent" clearance area not near the other hammers.

I see BMW in your screenname....do you own one?

I thought maybe the blue tape was so you knew the left-handed tools from the right-handed ones . . . :)
:lol_hitti Yeah, because I am left handed too

I was wondering why I need ball pein hammers.....that's a good point trying to work win tight spaces (under the hood of a car/suspension) with a claw hammer

I also have blue tape on several of my tools. In my case, they are special tools for working on my cars. Either ones I modified for a specific task or ores dedicated to one job (e.g. Service wrench I use to tension my timing belt, socket I use for lugnuts [this protects wheel finish, as well], etc.). Conveniently helps identify tools and looks at home in a Hazet box. ;)

Speaking of which, I'll post some pics later.

Yes they are very nice US made hickory or ash handle hammers. I think home depot is clearing them out and replacing them with another brand whose name escapes me right now?

I have three of them now. Yes, they are a good name. Made in USA as people said. Unfortunately/fortunately, my local HDs have not marked them down yet or else I would have bought more than a few as "spares" and to stock up or whatever convenient excuse I could tell my wife.

any wooden hammer is only as good as the handle. my home box is hf hammers. work is a mix of vaughn, snap-on/blue point and who know what else. from the most expensive down to the cheapest, they got an extra wedge driven into the ends. i will wedge the heads on tightly before it starts sliding around.

i buy the wedges at the flea market for 10 cents a piece. never had a problem. i know i paid less than 10 bucks for my hf wood handle set. i cant see even them f-ing up a hammer head. handles though were a little loose. slap an additional wedge in and never had an issue.

Please don't get on me too much about the tools looking unused, as I bought quite a few of them within the last few months, and they're pretty much still new...but I promise they'll all see their share of use and abuse. :) I don't make a living with these tools, but use them for my main hobby - restoring and racing vintage and late-model Mustangs.

I've accumulated most of the tools over the last few years, as I was rebuilding the '65 you see in my sig, and I got sick of the tools getting so dirty just from sitting out. It took me awhile, but I finally found a good deal on a like-new KRL7023...so here are some pics of my first toolbox. I gotta say, having a toolbox beats the hell out of keeping all my tools on a wire-rack shelf in the garage! And yes, the toolbox is in a back room of my house right now, but it'll go in the garage once I finish the walls and get some more work done in it.

okay, I'm going to show my ignorance.

What's an AN fitting?

They're used for plumbing, and are fairly common for oil and fuel lines in high-perf/race automotive applications. The fuel lines for my Weber carburetors use AN fittings, and lines running to my oil cooler. They're nice in that they don't gall up the fittings like steel wrenches do.

Here's a shot of some red/blue AN fittings...

Thanks. I've learned my tidbit for the day. Now I can go back to sleep.

I love the fenderlip roller. Beats the hell out of a baseball bat, lol Nice stuff. If the new tools bother you just send them out and I'll send you some more experianced models at no extra change. lol

Haha...thanks for the offer, but I look forward to giving some of these tools their patina. And the fender roller is nice, and I was able to get better results than using a ballbat or something similar...it's a pretty neat tool and very easy to use, especially if the car isn't painted and you don't have to worry about damaging any paint.

Yea, it is a bit pricey compared to the alternatives, but I was able to help quite a few friends by loaning it out, so it's been worth it. Oddly enough, I haven't even used it on my cars. I was going to on the '65, but ended up having a shop help me completely flatten the lips against the inside of the quarters, and weld and seam-seal the area. And for my next project, I'm going to take a stab and fabbing my own metal flares, so I probably won't use it on this one, either.

But if you or anyone would like to borrow it and give it a try, you know who to ask!

Your wife is gorgeous. The box aint bad either. You going to get the top box? I was looking at them at Lowes and thought they would make a good looking home box.

I noticed that on these blue Lowes boxes that the drawer fronts were welded on instead of riveted. And the overall quality is better than even the $1800 stainless monster they have.And..the slides have Steel ball bearings instead of plastic ones.
