ITALIA!!!!! LOL JK:rocker::rocker:

I do however love it when someone can combine Soccer(Im American First) and their love of tools...how much $$$ did the skin cost, and where can I find one with Azzuri colors :headscrat

Whats with the "do not confuse with a hire shop" language? is that some sort of legal requirement?

I put this in my garage thread in the gallery, but might as well put it here as well.

The kids have been hounding me for their own tool chest. The wife and I looked at an evolv at Sears that was normally $89.99 and was on sale for $84.99. Thought about it but didn't pull the trigger.

Tonight the kids and I made a trip to Sears and they had a Stanley unit on sale from $149.99 to $99.99. It's a lightweight unit but it'll last the kids until one of them is old enough to go out on their own and then it'll make a good starter unit.

So we bought one and got it home. Unpacked it and found a dent in the top of the roller. Weird, 'cause all of the packing foam wasn't damaged.

Took it back and they only one left in the store was the display. They gave me an extra 5% off and we left with the display unit.

Kids are stoked. Tomorrow we'll put drawer liners in and I'll let them start figuring out how they want to organize their tools.

The happy kids.

Oh great! Getting the kids dragged in early! I will most definitely do the same thing... But I think I'd make them find one on cl or an estate sale... and have then learn to refurb it! Gotta love their smiles! :) StevenFl

@98TJ- you're so lucky that your kids are interested in stuff like that. All most kids want to do these days is mope around and play video games. I hope a little of me rubs off on my little fella and he someday hounds me for his own toolbox!!

I'm a firm believer that people are a product of their environment and that kids will emulate the lifestyle the grew up in as they get older.

If you're a lethargic couch potato and your children grow up in that environment, they'll likely follow the same path. If you get out, be active, and do things with them that actually teaches them how to think, solve problems, and do things for themselves...they'll be ahead quite a bit of their counterparts.

Children "learn" to like and do the same things as you because that's "normal" to them.

As for getting a used box and refurbing it, I already have a '56 Craftsman table saw and a FJ40 to keep me busy.

Went today to pick up my latest find. I have a nice vintage trilogy (not counting the one that is wrong color). I can now stop looking for vintage Hazet carts. Let's just hope I don't turn to the modern ones...:shocking:

Awesome, as always! If you run across any great deals on my side of the pond, point 'em out and at least we can keep it in the GJ family!

There was some damage to the drawers...

But that's already sorted..

I'm not a fan of this finish at all, I have a feeling there is some Rustoleum in this chests future...

Just looked it up online, lists for $449, on sale now for $349.... I think I did ok.. :)

Here are mine. When I moved I only brought my Huot top box. Most of my hand tools sat in an ammo box, which was pretty annoying and inconvenient.

Anyhow, I've got around $250 invested into the boxes. I bought the 1979 set-up for $120 and put casters, locks and liners. The newer set-up includes a bearing middle 2-drawer box and a locker. The newer bottom is actually very similar to the older bottom. For the prices, I can't complain.

I bought my first snap on box at the weekend after upgrading from this:

ToolBox02.jpg

Basically ran out of space, now ALL my tools are in the box and the workshop is tidy and mint, just the way I like it! I have wanted one of these for years (ever since I was a lad), so I feel like my life is complete now! :p

It's certainly not as special of some of the others on here, but I am very very happy with it. I didn't realise how stoked you can get on nice tools and a good box! Sad I know, but it's a guy thing I guess.

It was in pretty good nick overall, but the paint was lacking it's shine and it was scratched to buggery in places, so I decided to machine polish it as I had nothing to do on Sunday and it was free to do as I have all the gear already.

Trust me, once you have set eyes on a virgin shiny new one in the Snap-On Van, it makes you want to restore it to it's glory! :D Anyways, a few pics. It could do with more of an aggressive cut to remove the deep scratches on the lid, but meh, it's a toolbox, and it certainly looks hella nicer than it did when I bought it. The best thing is the price - absolute bargain!

Unfortunately the pics aren't the most detailed, and there's no 50/50 shot, but you get the idea.

Here are the shots anyways.

Lid before - very dull paint and deep scratches:

Too much polish everywhere! :buffer:

After:

Close up before and after on the lid. You can see the marks haven't gone, but I didn't want to cut too deep, more interested was I in restoring the shine and colour:

I also have a few other ideas to pimp it which I will post up when done, and i'll also get some shots of the drawers and contents this week. Need a socket rack but will try and get one tomorrow when the Snap-On van comes around £$£$£$£$ Cha ching!

Oh, and here is the reason for my need for tools - the toy!

Ok, here's my home toolboxes, can't get a pic of my Snap On box at work. Small toolbox is the first box I ever bought and the top box is the second - both are almost 30 years old!

The **** bead type also does diameter at the same time, or if your **** is calibrated you can use that along with the thread pitch gages as shown.

TheGrooveking

Ha ha very amusing!

I think that **** beads would be more useful, especially when measuring the thread in a brake caliper for example, where the thread pitch guage would struggle to fit/be able to see the actual results of it!

Here are my Craftsman Toolboxes (I think one is late 60's and the other is early 70's). I also have 2 Steelmaster 30 drawer storage cabinets along with 6 Steelcase 10 drawer storage cabinets. The Steelcase cabinets are REALLY heavy and have full extension ball bearing slides.

Did you drill holes thru the bottom to put the studs in to hold the wrenches?

Two pieces of 1/8" fiberboard. Top one to bolt the the drawer liner down and the bottom sheet to keep the heads of the bolts from touching the drawer.

Great idea! As soon as I seen the bolts I was hoping you did not drill through your drawers, but then again they are YOUR drawers...

It's only a HF box but I drilled eight 1/8" holes in my drawer for rivets to hold my Ernst wrench racks in place. I'm very happy with the outcome, they are quite secure. Not that I ever see myself wanting to but replacement drawers, I think, are less than $20 a piece.

Still have to get it off the trailer and fill it with my tools. This is my first "professional grade" toolbox and I am excited. Just have to figure out how I want to shadow the tools. I swapped it for a mustang project that had. Don't mind the cell phone pics!
