New guy here.....


here's my current boxes:

The black Snap-On box is my buddy's, who works out of the same shop as I do.

BTW, The 'cuda isn't mine....unfortunately.

And I just picked up a Burgandy Cornwell 36" wide top and bottom box today, since I am just now getting started in the mechanic world... I'm 23, and have been at a Kubota dealer for 3 months now.

That's cool! My father's company has a lot of Kubota equipment. We have two excavators, one tractor, one articulated loader, and a RTV utility cart. I've heard Kubota is going to be introducing a skid steer loader now too.

All you guys have way nicer boxes than I do. However, I think I can compete in the 'uniqueness' category. This homebuilt tower toolbox started life as a 1940s administrator's desk...back when they made them out of oak, and built them to last a hundred years. I tossed the desktop, stacked the drawer columns on either side of the desk on top of each other, and reused the wood at the base of one column to make the top of my toolbox. Even kept the pull-out writing surface. It holds a lot of my ancillary tools, jigs, and whatnot. Strong like tree!

Yeah, I've heard about the skid steer...they're also coming out with an RTV500 that'll fit in the back of a truck....and an RTV with dual row seating....

we're supposed to be getting out RTV500s any day now



Anyway, this is my first REAL mechanic job..so I'm WAY overwhelmed trying to catch up to the learning curve.. A friend and I help out his dad with his 1990 IROC-Z outlaw 10.5 car....it's powered by a blown alcohol HEMI!!! That's where I've got all of the VERY LITTLE experience I have...but I'm a quick learner.

Most are new. I sold off alot of my old tools, and started over. I hold out for good ebay deals. The ratchets, prybars, power tools, hammers, and some of the air tools are all old stuff, but I keep everything clean and organized. Every day I open the drawers and clean, re arrange stuff. I need help....I know.

Also lately, I will use a tool for a while, then sell it, and get something similar off ebay. The only thing I have from a tool truck is the ext. set I got from MAC on sale last month in their flyer, so I feel like I have saved quite a bit.

I'm just curios why you did this and if the resale value of the old stuff worked out to be enough to get your new sets!

M dad left me alot of his old tools that were probably 20 years old. not complete at all, rusty, but alot of the big names. Almost all snap-on, some Mac,SK, Craftsmen too. None of it was organized, he had an RV business and a Subaru stealership, so there was also a bunch of things I didnt need to work on diesel trucks or rockcrawlers, which is my main focus. I got about half the money out of that stuff that I have spent on new things.

I did get the box for my birthday through my cousin, who is involved in NASCAR and they get a hefty discount, plus it was on special that month.

Yeah, we took it home in a Sprinter van FULL of junk. moving a full box aint easy, and my back's been killing me all day. It's sitting in the garage at home now.

I'm waiting to find a side locker, unfortunately i currently have no job and no money. But when the box, time and circumstances are right i'm going to get one.

Waiting to find out if i can get a job at VW down the road, old manager used to run the shop there and is trying to get me a job.

yeah, sorry to hear that. I thought things were going pretty good. Did you have an idea, or was it pretty sudden?

It was pretty sudden. I was paid and told "we're not making enough to cover the wages" he was trying to use my mate as a scapegoat so i didn't bother waiting around to hear his bulls**t, i cut him off and said "i'll get a van."

Going to make some calls on Monday, old manager's going to try get me a job at the local VW dealership.

Got a couple pics of the contents of the box!

Screwdriver drawers, i'm running out of space for the hard-handled stuff and will have some of the other hard-handled things in another drawer when they arrive.

My German Elora wrenches, the big ones (30mm-41mm) live in the bottom box. I love these, they're great.

Some sockets, it looked like a had more before i made them all tidy, will make the false floor socket tray sometime to get all these in order.

Half of my Snap-on ratchets. Yes, half. It's an addiction. They all get used, every single one. Even the 62-year-old F-70N.
