I'd say the top is 80's. Id say bottom is mid 70's.
late 70's to early 80's.
Top is a Mac MB510, Bottom is a snap on Roll a bench KR-300 IIRC. Are they yours? Nice boxes. I always like to see boxes of different makes stacked together.
Don't know about you but dust is one of the biggest contributors for me and white actually hides that best.

I wanted to post in this thread since this is the thread that introduced me to GJ. I have been working out of a 10X16 shed for the last 10 years. I just built a new shop with an actual concrete floor (no more crawling in the dirt to work on the vehicle)! It's only 16X20 but it's paid for and me, my son and my father-in-law built it ourselves. I only got my first cabinet tool box about 8 years ago. Before that it was the multi-box, dig till you find system. I bought the cheapest craftsman they had. I have since added another 3 drawer Task Force from Lowe's and then a 2 drawer box from HF that was on clearance. Not the best but boy am I happy with my new set up!

My newest edition, I can't locate any stamping or date code. At this point I think I'll knock out the dents, hit it with some 220, prime and paint. My father in law gifted it to me. Now if I can talk him out of the two boxes I posted last week, but I'm quite happy to be the caretaker of this cabinet.

I had mentioned in another thread about my box ( a work in progress ) and thought that I'd add it here. Part of this is a repost from the other thread.
I have the HF 26" top/bottom combo. I put a HF 7-drawer side box on it, and plan on putting another on the other side to balance it out. Before I do that, I need to have a steel bottom plate made to keep the bottom box from folding under the weight. At first I thought that the castors were flexing, but it turns out that it was the thin bottom of the box.
I still haven't loaded up the side cabinet. The weight of the cabinet alone is making the other side light on the casters. A second cabinet will even the load, but I worry that the bottom of the main cabinet may be too thin for all that weight. I'm thinking that if I make a 3/16" or 1/4" plate to fit the bottom, then bolt the casters through it. That might be enough to handle a full load. I'm not interested in putting casters on the side cabinets unless I have to. Too much fussing to find the right castors and make a bracket to fit. A full plate under the main cabinet is easier, if it will work.
It's a good thing that I don't have to move the box very often.
On the left side, I have 2 HF magnetic glove dispensers (1 for latex and 1 for nitrile) on the right side I have 2 magnetic paper towel holders (1 for cheap towels and 1 for blue shop grade). That way I'm grabbing the expensive ones only when needed.
Before anyone asks why I didn't just buy the 44" or 56" box, it is a money issue. I'm adding on as I can afford to. Besides, I really liked the drawer layout of the 26" set over the other boxes.

Nice. I think it is a model KR272 or KC272, 3 shelves inside? It should be stamped on the back side (opposite of the door) lower right hand corner, right hand as if you were viewing the box from the back.

This picture always cracks me up. You have a nice miss match of vintage boxes, stickers, lots of character, the way it should be IMHO. Then on the left, this beautiful, completely matching, flawless stack of boxes. Almost makes me sick.
yea it's quite a contrast
the SO/harley boxes were the last new set of boxes i bought. ('94)
with the graphics on them, i really didnt want to cover them up with any stickers.
the older kr537a/kra300e are exactly how i got them, (4 years ago) never even cleaned the slides.
all the side boxes i bought used, and i've had them close to 20 years, none of them are perfect by any means. stickers covered a lot of little dings and scratches.

i used that side cab on my 5 drawer HF cart, i agree, its a heavy sucker. and much bigger than its dimensions lead you to believe. post pics of your steel plate mod when you get it done. id like to see what you come up with.

shouldnt have to be too thick either, if your going across the entire bottom of the box. even 1/4" plate would be overkill. its too bad the bottom of that side cab is shaped like it is, because if it matched the bottom of the main unit you could just run straps across the bottom, eventually to both cabinets.
ive got another idea too..it came from the HF tool cart mod thread. ill post a link here in a bit when i find exactly what im looking for...

Not the shiniest? Who cares? Those look really nice, super clean and well organized. Not to mention they look like they could take quite a few hits without any damage.

Unfortunatly, they don't carry ones that will fit this box and carry the weight. I'd get something else anyway.

I love that old school Craftsman box!!
Nice box, filled with equally nice, high quality tools.
I personally see a lot of wasted space in that box though. If you can see the bottom of the drawer then it ain't full.
Try storing pliers and wrenches on their edge. I use coiled electrical wire, but some of the fancy folks spend money on pliers and wrench racks.
X2, I really want to find one in the 12 drawer configuration to replace my waterloo. Those red and grey boxes are good quality boxes.

Thanks guys! The box is an 1973 model I picked up at an auction for $95 More than I wanted to spend but it is a lot higher quality than new craftsman boxes and the slides are super smooth, even left some of the **** carpet drawer liners in it.
I kicked around the plier rack idea but I like them laying out so I can see them.

those old craftsmans are beautiful.
i like my pliers out where i can see em too. standing them on the side can sometimes be too tall for the drawer i want to put em in. and the racks tend to snag on the pliers too. lay em flat in a shallow drawer and save the deep drawers for bigger tools!

what do you have in there? my HF casters came with the cart and are going on 2 years old, never had a problem overloading em.
or is it just the casters on the 26 are far lesser than the 5 drawer?

Here are my two toolboxes. The Snap On box is for work, I don't have every tool in the book but it does the job. The second box (Kincrome) is for my kart racing. It's total chaos and disorganized, and unfortunately without getting a bigger trailer or van we can't upgrade and have to make do with it.

With a side cabinet on the 26" it becomes a 44". With two side cabinets, it becomes a 60". Even lightly loaded, that's a lot of weight (mine won't be lightly loaded).
The frame of the casters is a thicker gauge metal on the 5-drawer cart (about the same as on the 44" cabinet) than on the 26" cabinet, but the wheels are better on the cabinet than on the cart.
When it's all set up, it's going to be a lot of weight on a small footprint with the casters that are there. That's why I need a solid plate under the 26", so there is no flex in the support.

Yeah these are the only type of boxes that will stand up to the pounding on the roads round here,The red box at the back is a Sidchrome and it has been welded where it's cracked and the ball bearings on the runners have been ground down by the dust.
