Hello All

As promised, here are some pics inside my new toolboxes, now that I have my stuff half-*** transferred and organised.

Unfortunately I can't really 'spread out" between both boxes as I work on the road a lot and have to have all the essentials in my top chest. Also I only need metric stuff in my road box. For this reason my bottom chest is used mainly for measuring and specialty tools, duplicates, air tools and standard sizes.

n625182002_1570372_6311.jpg

Top view.

n625182002_1570373_6644.jpg
Pry bars, picks, scrapers.

n625182002_1570374_6949.jpg

Metric combi, 4-way, ratcheting combi, double-open and stubby wrenches.

n625182002_1570375_7276.jpg

Hammers, files, crescents, hacksaw, 22" cobras, ratcheting stubby and slim double-open metric wrenches.

n625182002_1570376_7603.jpg

Screwdrivers.

n625182002_1570377_7927.jpg

Snap-ring and retaining ring pliers.

n625182002_1570378_8251.jpg

Misc electrical.

n625182002_1570379_8563.jpg

Multimeter, extractor sets, sealants, lubes, loctite, pipe dope, measuring tapes, anti-sieze etc.

n625182002_1570380_8893.jpg

Punches and chisels.

n625182002_1570381_9219.jpg

Misc pliers.

n625182002_1570382_9550.jpg

Misc pliers 2.

n625182002_1570384_222.jpg

n625182002_1570383_9886.jpg

Standard wrenches and sockets.

n625182002_1603072_7168.jpg

n625182002_1570385_569.jpg

Misc. This is the lower, shallow, extra wide drawer. I am keeping this one 'free'. Once I have the money for extra sets of metric Mac KS2s, SO 4-way and BP ratcheting combi wrenches they will go in here. I am trying to build up dupicates of the stuff that I keep in my top chest so that I can leave it loaded on the truck between service trips. By having everything I need in my bottom roller, I'd barely ever need to load/unload the truck.

n625182002_1570386_923.jpg

More screwdrivers.

n625182002_1570387_1275.jpg

More pliers.

n625182002_1570388_1607.jpg

Punch set and my "make-your-own" bushing/bearing driver set lol

n625182002_1570389_1949.jpg

Aerosols, extra socket and drill sets, extra hex keys.

n625182002_1570390_2283.jpg

The ever growing 'junk drawer'. This thing has magical self replicating abilities. Once a year I have to have a good cull and remove anything vaguely standardised, leaving only the truly unique, obscure (save my ***) treasures behind.

n625182002_1570391_2628.jpg

Air tools, disks, burrs etc. I'm sure most of you know this already but for those that don't; That thing mounted to the ugly, chrome, child labour produced looking die grinder is a home-made flapper wheel. This can be used for such things as cleaning up the inside bore of a pulley before mounting on a shaft. You just take a 1/4" bolt, cut the head off and then make a slit in the end with a hacksaw or very thin cut off wheel. Then you just take regular (and free at work to a lot of techs) emery cloth and fold it and slide into the slit. It also kinda helps if you make an "S" shape with the emery cloth, with the ends of the "S" trailing the direction of rotation.

n625182002_1570392_2967.jpg

Wrench racks, socket rails and the stuff that came with the toolbox.

Well, that's all of them. Thanks for looking and sorry if I killed your modem.

How do you like the Wera Kraftorm precision drivers? I've been thinking about getting some but haven't splurged yet. Have a review?

garfunkle24... thats a heck of a good setup! What are you using in that road box to divide up the areas like where you have the big Knipex's and stuff? Is that just that stick down plastic drawer divider stuff? What sort of service calls do you do? Just curious...

Pardon my ignorance, but why (what seems to me) so many pry bars? Great looking boxes!

I've only used two of them and even then only briefly. I can't really say more than that they are comfortable to use, have nice fit and finish and look cool.

As well as being the lead tech for the company I work for I am actually the Canadian sales and service manager. This mean that sometimes I can go quite a stretch without working on a machine, which has been the case since I got those. I am back into services now though and I'm sure they will see a lot of use very soon. Stay tuned!

ps. They were a gift to me from an Austrian colleague. Free is my favourite price!

Justinmc

The drawer divider stuff is actually 2 different products. The orange stuff is Snap-on that I had laying around. I had actually ordered some more of this with my boxes, but it was out of stock. I wanted to get my stuff transferred before we got into services again so I went and bought the black stuff locally, I'm not sure of the brand. They both work well, the main difference being that the black stuff is a 'T' shape in cross-section while the Snap-on is 'L' shaped. In practise this means that the Snap-on stuff is easier to work with, getting the joints to **** up nicely etc. Btw, if you are as fussy as I am, it takes forever to lay out like that.

This is what I work on:
n625182002_523667_2442.jpg

n625182002_523668_2737.jpg

It is specialised Austrian farm research equipment (mainly combines). It's interesting and I get to play with both huge tools and tiny precision ones. They have some cool electronics, such as advanced weigh systems, infra-red spectrometry systems, GPS, CANBUS controllers etc.

Me and two other techs do all of the service work for Canada. I work as far West as British Columbia and as far East as the Maritimes. As a general rule if it's around or less than 1000kms we drive, if it's more we fly (the ****** *** flight toolbox is a whole other story).

A service to us is basically a pre-season inspection, maintenance and repair of a combine. We have combines ranging from the size of a minivan to the same size as a commercial unit.

I have two pry bars in each size as I often use them in pairs to pull off a bearing or something similar. Also, I had the red ones first. When they released the new style, I decided I wanted some that I could beat the living s**t out of.

I have two sets of heel bars (although one is fixed, one indexing) for the same reason.

What size is that nut close to the center, near the drill bit? I've been looking for one of those.

Let me know if you plan on selling it.

Thanks for sharing your stuff.

I spent a while staring at that horrible low-res picture trying to figure out if you were joking or not, giving up only when my eyes were completely wrecked.

Andy

The main difference is that the road chest is built out of heavier steel than the regular boxes (mainly 16ga i think). The box isn't isn't that big but weighs ~200lbs empty. Also they use friction slides as they actually hold up a lot better for road work. The front cover keeps dust and some moisture off of the tools. Also, once I have enough duplicate tools I will leave that one loaded and work out of just my roll cab.

Eschoendorff

Thanks for the compliment. Ever since I started reading this board I've taken an interest in the Facom stuff. I go to England about once a year, so I have a buddy buying and saving some stuff for me, as it's easier for him to get. So far 1/4" and 3/8" palm control ratchets, some pliers and a 3/8" chrome metric 6-point socket set.

garfunkle24, you need to go to Costco and get a couple of cardboard trays for putting those miscellaneous fasteners in; that's ridiculous. :rolleyes2

thank you! that is answer what i want know. i was thought the road chest is for like more strong or have weatherstrips on it so it don't get dirty or moisture to make rust on tools. i thought some of road chest have roller bearing slides??? i just dont like friction slides because limit load...

Well im new to this board but this looks like a good spot to start. Lets see if I can make this work on the first try.
This is the new toolbox and the free cart sitting on the far right

DSC09995.jpg

This is what I traded in on it. The funny part is one of the other techs at my shop bought it before it ever left the building.

DSC09987.jpg

And this is my cart that holds most of my tools that I use every day.

DSC09986.jpg

Since these pics where taken I have added a full locker to the left side of the the box, it was in a buddys garage and was able to do some tradeing for it. i will update the pics sometime over the weekend.

The Matco road chest has roller bearing slides, but most guys who actually use road chests for road service work prefer the friction slides. Ball bearing slides get beat to **** after a couple of thousand miles on the road, friction slides don't suffer the same problems.

I've got the same Snap-on road chest from when I used to work out of a service truck, and had the chance to trade it in on a Matco version, but turned it down because I've head horror stories about the average lifespan of the slides on that box. Now that I'm not working out of a road chest anymore, I might take him up on that offer as it'd make a nice home garage box.

Nice boxes. Both yellow and blue are beautiful. At least you'll still get to see your old yellow box everyday.
What's the brand of the cart?

The cart is a Mac one the badge on front fell off, and since everything else that I basicly have is snap-on (at least tool storage) it now has a snap-on badge on it.

From the looks of the tools, paint guns, dollies, hammers, Hutchins, Nat'l Detroit etc. you look like a very experienced bodyman, how long have you been in the field? Man, pretty much everything is Snapon goodness.... gotta love it! :)

Well come May it will be 5 years total in the field with no school all on the job training. However I am now a Master ASE and a I-CAR Platuimn certified. And I did have a good teacher he had over 25 years in the field so has seen a lot. My boss is the same way and is always teaching me some old school trick to make it easier. And we work on anything that comes in the door, Alot of chevys but get a little bit of everything. We live about 10 miles from an Air Force base and get a lot of work from people that cant drive in the snow. We have seen everything from Lotus' to Ferraris to the 09 Charger with less then 3000 miles that I am just finishing.

And Peterbuilt I saw one of the new carts on the truck last week they look a lot nicer then the last bluepoint one that looks close to the samething
