Great looking boxes and tools. Can I assume the box marked "Off limits - Do not touch" is your good set of drill bits? I don't let anyone touch mine either.

Thanks, It is my "good set" of bits it is just a set of HSS MAC bits but there all there, a couple people dont watch what they are doing with drill bits and dont care so I didnt want them touching, They are warrantied with Mac but if some one breaks one and then tosses it because its broke then I'm out. Its just easier and im really careful with them.

Again, great looking tools and boxes. Who is the manafacurer of the hex bits in the holder with the clear cover? Thought they might be PB Swiss. They look really nice, how do you like them?

Yep, they are PB Swiss. Almost too pretty to use. The holder is a really nice design, too. Both "lids" and the bit holder have gears at the hinge. You can clip it to your belt and when you open it, the bits stick out parallel to the ground and are held in that orientation. I'm planing to post some more pics in another thread. I've only had the bits for a couple of weeks, so I can't say how well they'll hold up. It looks like there's a clearcoat on top and I'm a bit worried about that. The color is in the metal, though. It's great to be able to tell from a distance if a bit is phillips or posi... Bottom line: I like them a lot :)

Anyway, thought I'd add a couple of pics that I missed in my last post, just some sets etc:

n625182002_1603074_7909.jpg

My ratchets. Please note that I probably have another 20 -25 ratchets but I am a tool "minimalist". I only keep the best of my stuff in my work boxes. I'm not one of those guys who likes to keep all his extra/duplicate/**** stuff in his box 'just in case'. As soon as something in my box gets upgraded, it's goes home to the garage box.

Same here. I only use the ratchets in the toolcart plus the SH80 that's stored with the 1/2" sockets. Do you like having both the flex and non-flex stubbies? I have the flex and love it. I have a feeling the straight one would lead to more skinned knuckels for me... :)

Thanks. I'm doing the drop and 17" wheels on the '66 so it will definitely be more restomod than restoration. I picked up on the M3 in the pics. Grabbed my attention right away, nice car.

Nothing wrong with a restomod. I do like the look of the sculpted steel wheels and the rest of the exterior, but that's just me. However, I've seen that you can buy the same style a bit bigger. I think that's what I'll eventually go for. Now, on the technical side, I will upgrade ours as much as I can afford. I just don't think that 4 drum brakes are a great idea. The disk brakes will have to wait, though. They cost too much...

Thanks. The E46 M3 is the car I have sworn they will have to pry from my dead cold hands :bounce:

Yeah, that is the same way the owner of the pictured car feels. He is all about retaining the original look. I like them both ways, but this car is going to lean towards restomod with a few subtle shelby parts, the wheels, and disk brakes. I bought this kit for front brakes. I thought it was the most complete and direct. It also includes the 67 dual master cylinder upgrade for safety. You need to run larger wheels for it though...

What is funny about my approach to the restoration is that some things will be concourse, and some modified. The control arms have been restored to the dipped look, all of the fasteners will be correct, phosphate and oil or otherwise, and the markings will all be recreated. I know I'm weird.

Thanks. The E46 M3 is the car I have sworn they will have to pry from my dead cold hands
I don't blame you. I've never driven one, but I can just imagine.

Thanks! And, no, you don't sound like an a-hole, you sound like my wife
:lol_hitti :bounce: (and that's not an insult, either :) )

And they do match where it counts: price. I bought the stuff over the past 7 or 8 years and think I paid around $500 total.

Awesome find! Thanks for the link. I might put that on ours instead of buying another drum (right front drum is out-of-round). $525 seems like an excellent deal (I already did the power brake conversion with a dual master. My wife is 4'10" and I was scared for her life :) ) Any specific reason not the use the other kit they have, that fits on the original spindles and works with the original wheels?

:bounce: Doesn't sound too weird to me. I definitely won't recreate the markings, but otherwise I understand completely.

I chose this kit because it was their only kit on ebay at the time and I had 10% off. Plus, it comes with new spindles, so I wouldn't have to worry about my old spindles being worn. However, if I was in your position, I would probably use the old kit. If your spindles aren't good, let me know. I have the two that came off of my car, and I think they're fine. I sandblasted them(not the machined surfaces) and sprayed them in black epoxy so they look like brand new.

OK, here are some crappy pictures of my box and tools. I'll get better pics after Christmas when the lighting is better and I have my Nikon D50.

Yeah, I like the setup. I think the construction is good, much better than Craftsman IMO. My only complaints are the depth of the middle section and top box. They should be deeper. Also, on light drawers, the slides seem to get really stiff when its cold. I received that setup as a gift for my 16th birthday(nope, no car here), so I didn't exactly pick it out. If it were my choice, I would have bought a used SO box off of Craigslist. But, yes, I like it, and since it was a gift from my parents, I'll likely have it forever. Slide capacity has not been a problem for me. I load them up and never think twice. There is usually a big heavy case of Facom body tools in the bottom drawer. The box seems to handle it fine.

Got some new socket holders so I cleaned some up my stuff up today. Here is a picture of the socket holders, not quite as condensed as I was hoping... If I get lucky, maybe this spring I'll try to pick one of those 50% off Crappies to put on top, some stuff is getting a little crowded.

Seems to work fine. It doesn't have a huge database of codes, but that's what the internet is for... I got it new(ish) off eBay for about $50. Worked fine on both my wife's suburban and our daughter's nissan maxima (both for diagnostics and resetting the MIL). If you don't have a higher end one, I'd say keep it.

Thanks. Unfortunately mine doesn't look like that yet. I'm working on a '70 Mach 1 428CJ R code for the same guy right now. It should be finished this spring.

I own a grabber blue H-code. Your username looks familiar, you're frequently on the VMF right? Been awhile since I've been on there, too busy with fixing up the garage instead of working on the stang.

Yeah, I used to hang out on the VMF and autobodystore site quite a bit. I haven't been on the VMF in quite some time either. I'm in the same situation as you. Between working on the garage, keeping up with classes, and working on other people's cars, my '66 never gets any love. I can't really complain though, I've had the opportunity to work on quite a few nice vehicles. Christmas break I'll be finishing up the '70 and starting to cut and buff a '68 GT500.:shocking:

A '70 H code is a nice car, I wish that was my project. After the '66 coupe, I'll be looking for a '69 M code. Good luck with your project. Post some pics and plans you have for the car if you have a chance. I'll try to grab some pics of the '70 I'm working on.

EDIT: I just notice you're a civil engineer. I'm studying to be mechanical myself.

Nice setup! That old Mac box is a classic. I don't think I'd restore it :)

PS is that in your shop/garage or at a business? Also thats a Ghia?

Thanks, Yeah I'm not 100% sure I'm going to restore it, it's not tooo bad it does need a lock on it though. It's was my Grandfathers that he used sometime around when he started our business back in 62', I'm not exactly sure what year the box is though, has a lot of cool old tools in it as well. Yeah, these are my boxes at our shop, I'll try to get up pics of all my dads boxes at our garage at home at home later. That is indeed a customers 65' Ghia, good eye!
