If that trim was brown or even available in brown I think I would have to pony up the cash for that bad boy. Go browns.
Got an awesome deal I couldnt pass up. After 9 weeks of waiting it came in the other day. 84" epiq with locker, hutch, and power cab. Still waiting on my hutch light.
What do you keep in the tall drawer, far left? What type of shop do you work in? Looks like a small place. Tell your neighbor to the left I like his KR637/647/657 setup.

I think I've posted in here before but not sure. Had to step outside to get them all in the pic. Stanley Vidmar cabinets are, in my opinion, the best tool storage option available. I sold all 6 of my Snap On boxes and replaced them with these.![]()

My box at work!![]()
Finally after 5 years with the same box, I purchased a much needed upgrade! Started out with just the bottom half of the red box, thought that was lots of room and id never fill it, couple of years later I picked up the top half on sale and thought the same thing about the top half. After moving jobs to another shop and having to pull my old box apart I began to realize how bad condition it was in, sliders were seized, bearings were falling out of them etc. I decided it was time for an upgrade so i took the 36" top and bottom home and purchased this.
56" roll cabinet, made by a company called evercraft, it was purchased through Napa, I'm actually very impressed with this box, quality is outstanding for the price, sized very well, lots of depth to the draws compared to my old box, draws slide well and it looks like it was built very well. Needless to say for less then $1000 i'm very happy with this box.
Only downside to having more room is it gives me an excuse to buy more tools

I don't know if anyone told you yet but when you do find short cuts do not post them on the GM forums. The folks at GM monitor them things all the time looking to save money. If you have not opened an account for the forums yet, do so but just don't post short cuts you find. After a while try to get invited to the Blue Gorilla forum, it is by invite only and started by a GM tech that was kicked out of the other forum, this is where all the good stuff is located now.
It is a secret...I sold all 6 of my Snap On boxes and replaced them with these.
WOW! That thing is HUGE. You keeping tools in it or taking up residence in it? I personally like the color combination of black and orange, at least in a shop. Do I dare ask how much that cost?

I love seeing the words "invest" and "toolbox" in the same sentence. It gives me a chuckle.![]()
Why?sold the red Matco in this picture:
then bought this, and the best part is I ended up with $1200 in my bank account.

Why?
WOW, nice setup. Are those Listas? Dimensions? Those things look massive. I also like your little snap on box on the right. KRA58? Did you purchase that when you got rid of the matco or was it pre-existing?![]()
definition of "Investment": investment is the purchase of an asset or item with the hope that it will generate income or appreciate in the future and be sold at the higher price.
tool box' value depreciates over time.
SNIP

they are 4' wide by 5' tall, 28" deep.
I also have a Stanley Vidmar sitting at another corner, it is 8' tall.
I suppose that depends on what you paid for the tool box...![]()
Exactly my thoughts. All my boxes were definite investments, no doubt about it. I suppose that depends on what you paid for the tool box...![]()
If I buy a Lista for $500 and I can sell it right now for $2000, I already made a $1500 profit (equity-wise). The profit is already made regardless if I keep it or not. If I decide to keep it, I'm hanging on to a $2k box in hopes that it will generate income or go up in value from $2k. Neither of these will happen.

Here's my most recent set-up:

Did you buy them all new or piece them together over the years? I would like to find one of those craftsman 12D bottoms in the red/grey combo. I have the waterloo version (person that actually made them for craftsman), same drawer layout and love the drawer layout. Actually mine is setup like your 2nd picture, a cart with a piece of wood on top for a work surface.
But... what if someone purchases a "collectable" box that gains age and thus value over the years they hang onto it?
OR, what if someone purchases a really rought box fixes it up, uses it for a while and sells it later down the road for more than what they paid for it in the rougher condition?

FYI, I sell toolboxes all the time for more than I paid for them. I have several right now I don't want to sell, but I know I could sell them and make a really nice profit on all of them.
I've heard this investment argument several times, usu. in relation to daily drivers, that's it's not an investment. (Collector cars are a whole nother matter) When you're purchasing a car to use on a daily basis, it's an investment in your future, as you need it to be reliable to get you to your job, run your errands, live your life. That's the way I look at it. You can tell me I'm wrong all you want, but the payback on an investment isn't always monetary.
They both appear to be Listas. The red one is a newer generation.then bought this, and the best part is I ended up with $1200 in my bank account.

What box is that on the far left of the gray one???![]()
good for you then. but how often does that happen?

I actually used the red Matco for 3 years and sold it at what I paid for. but what about that guy who bought it new. I've seen too many young techs could have bought himself a house, instead paying a hefty tool box payment.
I used the little Snap On box when I worked at a race shop till I changed jobs this year. I use to take it on the road during the racing seasons. now I'm making prototype parts at a manufacturing company which proving all the tools. btw, I bought it used for $50.
I really like those KRA58's with all the small drawers. Take it on the road? That thing must have had some heft to it. Looks to be in great shape even after all that use. Good investment.
Fair enough. With this mindset, what would you think would be a better investment? A Honda Civic or a Ferrari F50?

I wasn't trying to start a argument, just putting it out there. I totally agree about purchasing new and the depreciation right off the bat. Hence so many people purchase used. However for some that is not an option due to time, money, location, desire constraints.![]()
