Quick shots of my travel box ready to go on the road. There are a few more tools hidden underneath the bottom pallet; hack saw , guides for saw, mallet, ball peen hammer, arm for my derailleur alignment tool, small case for free hub tools and spoke wrenches .

I got it off the truck on friday after waiting for 2 months and have been arranging since. I know my SAE collection is rather lacking, but it will get there. And to think I started with a 143 piece Craftsman tool set a year ago. :) I made the neon lighting underneath with a car kit from advance (with a steep discount) and a transformer from a printer to go from 110VAC to 12VDC. I am only 19. :) Please excuse the empty space, this new upgrade has given me room for MORE TOOLS! :lol_hitti

That is a damn nice box for you're age, I wish i could have one just like it.
Sadly the welding shop is a harsh place for tool boxes...they don't like the fire.
My Blue craftsman is all pitted from the hot metal and amber landing on it. Make sure you wax it at least 2 time's a week

WVU Tuba Dale - Real nice box. The drawers will fill up before you know it. Take care of it and it will last a long time. He is a picture of the box I bought when I was 18.

Wow, I like that, but it's gotta weigh quite a bit?
Who makes that tool case?

broke,

how do you like the Irwin wire strippers? Been thinking about picking up a set of those. Also, where did you find the socket racks?

Chicago tool case white is no longer available and the wing pallet is now extra. The box weighs 120lbs for neutral support , half a as much for track or team duty. ( no need for as much tooling as I know what will be needed specifically)

I still need to add in two 1/4 SO ratchets for neutral and several more bits. Some tooling in there is just specifically for jump tools when I am in a car. Tools for jump include multi bit screwdriver, 6& 8 mm hex wrenches for pedals, 15mm open end for pedals, EMT scissors, knife, when i get them the 2 1/4 ratchets with 4& 5 hex drives on each and e-tape.

I have those same Erwin strippers and I'm not real impressed. The Gardner & Bender ones I have are way smoother. The Erwin strippers seem to be really stiff, they tend to break smaller gauge wire instead of stripping, and they are really bulky. They are not my first choice if I need to get in a tight spot I can tell you that.

I like the irwin strippers, they work well for me on smaller wire. I have the Gardner and Bender ones as well, but I havent used them in a long time so its hard to compare. I rember them being just as nice, but the red grips on the handles kept falling off.

The rails (and holders) are made by Ernst Manufacturing and are awesome. I looked for a long time trying to find organizers that would work for me and I think I hit the mark. I have since basicly orderd the catalog (Screwdriver rails, wrench organizers, more rails).

How has your case held up? My dad bought one and within about 5 years it started falling apart and in 10 years it has gone to it houses some spare tools at his shop with a piece of speaker cable for a handle and a bungee to keep it together.

It is is just fine I am very particular about function and the handling of my case. No one move it or touches it it has survived 2 seasons so far with not a hit of any issues. Chicago cases are the most popular here in the states with CH Ellis second and Pelican in for third. A lot of stress is taken off the box when I do team support I can dump out a lot of extra tools not needed. We are usually stationary with our boxes so there is not much stress to them at all. ( flying is a different story and a nightmare in the making sometimes)

That would make a difference, my dads tools each year average 35-55k miles of riding around in the truck with probably 1k-3k of that on rough roads. Another 500 or so miles on the back of a snowmobile and then 4-7 days of use per week on top of that.

He had long thought about buying a bigger case from them but in the end he has just gone to the a CLC soft sided bag and uses wrench rolls and klein canvas zipper bags for organization.

At a race are boxes are either stationary or packed away in the car following the race on smooth roads. We probably do over stress the boxes with the amount and weight of tools but there is nothing bouncing around as the tools are far too costly for that. Besides who want to listen to squeaks and rattles for 150 mi with no music on just the coms.

Finally got around to taking some pics
I haven't wrenched for a living in about 20 yrs but my box was looking pretty sad. So since I got the garage finished I decided it was time for a new box.
I don't have everything in it's place yet it's getting there.

Here is my stuff. I just got my 56" Harbor Freight combo and am VERY happy with it, I got both pieces for $750 out the door after buying the boxes on sale, then using a 20% discount coupon and then having the manager knock off an extra $150 due to some minor dents/dings. IMO, this box kicks the **** out of any of the Husky, Kobalt or Craftsman boxes I have seen. I would NEVER EVER consider paying the price of a new Snap-On, Mac or Matco box when this one is almost if not as good as all the big names. I have Snap-On badges on the way just to mess with my buddies:lol_hitti Also, I am not cheap at all and just about all my hand tools in that box are Mac, Matco, Snap-On and SK.

The other boxes pictured are a 60th anniversary Snap-On and a ball bearing Husky. I also have a 50" Snap-On roller as well as plenty of other tools in my Harbor Freight Box that is not pictured, I am in the middle of redoing my garage and am still working on getting everything where I want it.

So far I am VERY happy with it. :bounce:
I could not even think about getting a new box if it had not been in the price range of the Harbor Freight ones. I know a lot of people say "for the money you can't beat these boxes" I would say it is tough to beat these boxes period.
I know there are a lot of tool truck boxes that are nicer and bigger or more customizable, but for just the average "Dude" go HF.
On sale -20% coupon
574.95 w/tax out the door

I was just trying to be humorous, the toolboxes actually all belonged to my Grandfather. We used to go to real estate auctions and flea markets. Some of the toolboxes were new, teal box, double bank craftsman, but the others were for the most part bought here and there. I don't know the history of all of the tools, he died two years ago when I was 25. I just remember the tools and boxes that I was with him when he bought. He worked for a company called Westinghouse servicing large (several hundred horsepower) electric motors. I would say that the boxes are Ninety percent full, with the exception of the matching snap-on top and bottom. Most of it is older tools, as we bought less and less as his health declined.

Here is a picture of one of the drawers
Picture045.jpg

To be honest with you when I was younger, thought we were the only people in the world obsessed with tools, now I see we weren't alone...

All of us tool obsessed; would love to see what is inside some if not all of grampa's boxes! Inquiring minds/eyeballs want to know!!!! :) (a peek in one drawer... that like torture! Just one peek, is agonizing!) :)
