2 of my 3 service calls were outside in the snow yesterday, both for blown hyd hoses.
i was doing ok till mid afternoon when the sun started to get down below tree level.
as long as i was in direct sunlight, it didnt feel like it was chilly as it was...
air temp 2-3* F wind chill -16/20.

dont look like air temps will be above zero tomorrow, should be a fun filled day....

These toolboxes are very well made indeed, it is possible to fully extend the drawers and sit on them if desired.
They are made by a company called Huni.
I was very lucky to have been given these toolboxes by my neighbour for free.
They are all lockable and I am considering securing them to the wall to prevent theft.

OMG!!! When it's really cold you have to take off your gloves to start nuts. It's cold, really cold, but you are only touching just the ridges on a very small area on your finger tips. I had my gloves off when it was -25 and spilled a container with anti-freeze on my hand. You get 100% contact over a large area.:shocking:

I don't want to do that again. If it's a question of fixing a heater in the cold or telling my wife to put on wool ******* until it warms up, I hope she doesn't get a rash.

Had to swap the batteries in a couple of watches this morning, so I thought I would post a few pics of the toolbox I use for my watch tools.

Tell him if anybody does get through the lock without your permission, you will be calling 911 for vandalism, break and enter and theft under (or over) $5000, on him. That will teach him to keep his mouth shut and mind his own business.

Done.

seriously, THE BALLS to actually say something like that. I wouldn't last at that place. I don't tolerate assholes.

They let me go today because I wouldn't tolerate him or my check Being short hours of over time a week. We work 7:45-5:30 6 days a week and he only wants to pay for 40 hours a week.

Something better will come up, bro. You don't need those type of co-workers.

At least I'll have time to spend with my newborn daughter! I'll job search every day for a few hours. I have a few at home projects I want to get done anyways.

You have two years to contact Labor & Industries and tell them all the hours you worked, and did not get paid for.

They will get you your money, or fine him to the point where he won't do it to another employee again.

You have to do it-for your fellow worker.

Agree - report to your labor board, they take it very seriously. Very good chance you'll get your money and he'll get a fine, just like littletoes said.

Don't know about other states, but here they also penalize the employer a stiff amount to be paid to the employee, and interest on top of that.

I got stiffed about 7K, and by the time the verdict came in from the labor board, it was more like 24K, with interest accruing until it was paid...

And not only will they go after him for your back wages, but everyone else at the shop as well. I had one prior employer who tried to stiff me for a overtime. For me it wasn't much money, around 4K. But after they went through everyone else payroll over a two year period, some of the guys were getting checks for 15+K. BTW, this was back when a decent middle class living was 50k a year. *******.

Good luck bud, don't cut him any slack.

My only questions are: how was the employment first established? Was he hired as contract labor? Does he receive a 1099 or W2? Was his employment somehow considered exempt from labor laws? This could vary from state to state too.

Here in Pa if you cashed any check with less wages then agreed upon, you have basically voided your right to fight because by cashing the check, you have agreed to the terms the employer set forth. But that is only in Pa, which is a commonwealth state.

That 1099 **** is mostly a scam to avoid unemployment taxes/copays. The instance I described above was "1099 wages"; I took it to the labor board (even though the "contract" stipulated "arbitration" for any disputes...) and they ruled that , yes, it was a scam and ruled in my favor. That part of the "contract" (many of which have completely illegal "terms and conditions") was voided on the spot.

1099 is NOT for use for hourly wages, and the government is gradually beginning to crack down. Another large "Agency" type corp (over a billion in revenues) lost a class action suit against it, and now scrupulously adheres to the law (and uses W2)...

This week was a seriously lucky week for me, and probably the end of me being able to say "I never luck into cool stuff." When I found a pair of Stanley Vidmar cabinets available for small money, I almost squealed like a little girl. After the use of three trucks of various configurations, a pallet jack, and my father in law, they came home:

There's a blue 10-drawer and a green 11-drawer. The green one seems like it was older, and all the roller bearings were very tight. So I went over each of the ones I could get to and forced in some NAPA Sil-Glyde. That freed them up nicely without making a huge mess of everything.

Both were nice and clean and rust free. They both lived indoors in engineering labs, full of various tiny electronic components. Which brings me to what was in the cabinets. They came with a whole bunch of little dividers and bins - dozens of them. All together there are 218 little plastic bins of various sizes, most of them from Stanley Vidmar and made to fit. Oddly, 19 of them are Lista bins.

Pics of the bins and dividers:

The Lista bins don't quite fit in there right, but will probably still be pretty handy.

The big day included a Kuwaunee Sturdilite powered lab bench, too. That was a real ordeal to get moved as well, but I think it'll be worthwhile.

EDIT: This is a brand new house. They ended up where they did because that part of the garage is wider than the rest of the room, so it made for a nice little cave to tuck them into. I'd like to make or find a small table, or something else useful, to go between them and below the breaker panel. The workbench went dead center on the front wall, for lack of a better place for it to go.

EDIT 2: If anyone has suggestions for "best practices" in how to utilize cabinets like this to the fullest, I'd love to find a thread about that. I'm upgrading from a 12 year old set of Craftsman non-ball-bearing cabinets.

I LOVE those cabinets!! That's a heck of a good score for shop use. I would have drawers for each and ever size of nut, bolt, washer, screw, wire connector, colors of M&M, used beer caps, etc.

I'm off to search craiglist for some cabinets!!

I'm seriously jealous and would love to have some Lista cabinets. That being said there is a Lista dealer on the board "Linda@Lista"
Profile: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/member.php?u=81479
Home Page: http://www.listaintl.com/
left click on Linda's name in any post and there are options like "find all posts by...."

I also seem to remember that Jack Olsen modified a couple in his shop for tools. Look here: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=2582019&postcount=2258

I'm so jealous. Those are sweet. I have a 13 drawer in the same blue as yours but I want another. I want to ask what you paid but at the same time I don't want to know due to jealousy. Awesome score regardless of the price.

Been looking for a way to organize my sockets for a bit, and finally settled on one.

I initially had steel clip rails, but never feel in love with them. So they got canned and replaced with Harbor Freight (Hanson-style) plastic trays. I liked them, but they wasted space, which at the time I could afford to spare.

I was originally working out of multiple Craftsman 6 drawer 26"ers and finally decided to get a Harbor Freight 44"er. Also picked up a Craftsman 299 piece socket set, so I picked up a couple more sets of Harbor Freight plastic trays to accommodate and ended up with this hot mess...

Was debating between Mechanic's Time Saver Magna-Panels and Ernst Twist-Lock rails. Ended up going with Magna-Panels for two reasons:
1) You get virtually 100% usage of a drawer
2) I wanted my sockets running the length of the drawer and Ernst does not have a 16" rail

And in reality, if I don't like the panels, I can use them elsewhere. Whereas the rails have one real use.

Enough rambling, here are some pics.

Forgot to add impacts before I put chromes in, and my fingers got too cold to care to adjust, so I'll deal later.

I may also choose to rotate the panels 90° to provide a straight line to align my sockets on. Again, too cold and I figure I'll figure out a permanent alignment before too long and I have more impact, Allen and Torx sockets to add.

Nice socket organization cadavjo.

Here is my simple Craftsman 26" wide stack, circa 1988.

It's probably best that I don't tell you. They weren't free, it wasn't that kind of thing, but probably the luckiest find of anything of real monetary value I've ever had.

The Vidmar website has some neat case studies and I'm getting some ideas for how to store my meager tool collection. But the truth is, I'll probably paralyze myself for days, agonizing over how to arrange things, only to end up changing it later.

I like the pictures in this thread, those are helpful too.

Question on the value of a toolbox. I have a Waterloo Traxx, 40" wide, bottom and top in pretty good shape, all drawers roll well. Any idea on what this would sell for? I'm thinking about buying something like a 72" Tool Vault.

My box at work may be old (at least 40), but it does the job everyday. Everyone else in my shop has hf, and they are nice boxes for sure, but i do take a certain pride knowing mine is made in the USA. I know I've posted pics of the outside already. Here are some inside.
