So did you catch any **** from the other machinists for ditching the kennedy?

Those bottom boxes and their maintenance series tops are nice, but I don't understand how a guy can be efficiently productive with those small machinist chests.

Actually no I work with a younger generation group. These younger guys have no brand loyalty. All brands are represented at my shop. While I wanted a big new Kennedy toolbox I just couldn't swing the funds. But I have had this for little over a month now and couldn't be happier.

You guys act like taking 10-15min at the end of the day wiping tools down with cleaner is a crime and makes hard working people bad mechanics.

Those boxes are productive for what they are used for. Measuring and other small or delicate stuff like taps, dies in the top box, bigger hand tools in the lower box. Typical use is stationary at your bench, where you also store bigger stuff on shelves or in drawers.
Not an ideal box for a mechanic or pipefitter though...

My tools get wiped down at least twice a day. Lunch time, end of the day, and any time I finish a job.

Yeah buddy! I can't stand reachin in to a box and grabbin a wrench with grease all over it. I got in a habit of doing the same after every job mainly so I know I didnt leave anything under the hood somewhere. haha

I do it everytime after I use them.

I do it if they get dirty. Sometimes they don't, like when doing interior work. Then they just go back in the box. If being a DIY'r and having clean high quality tools makes me a "tool polisher" so be it.

Exactly. There's not much worse of a feeling than realizing that you left a xxWHATEVERxx under the hood of a truck that is headed out cross country, or in the bellypan of a dozer. I prefer to take the opportunity to do a quick wipedown and inventory between each job. Plus grease, oil, and fuel can break down the drawer liners over time, too. Polishing tools saves time, money, and frustration over time.

tool polishers

Lol soooo good. I worked with a few tool polishers. They got laid off. I'm still employed. Nuff said. At home I do try and keep everything in mint shape but at work using tools on heavy equipment and trucks all day **** gets thrown around and pulled across the floor with airlines, it's just hard to keep everything pristine. I don't purposefully destroy my work collection but I'm not gonna cry if my new 3/4 snappy impact has gouges on it after a hard days work. Same with the boxes, the home collection is mint, the work collection is alright. **** happens when you're making money.

Got this a couple weeks ago. Reduced to $523 - customer return with a dent on the back of the hutch.

Fleet maintenance on semis and trailers, tools will get banged up, they are saying the tools are just clean, and to me wether it's a 1$ wrench or a 100$ wrench I'm still gonna wipe everything down due to working inside and outside of brand new trucks and getting grease inside them is one good way to get written up
Clean tools are also safer as well

You just reminded me of my first experience with a "wtf" thought at work. First day on the job, borrowing my grandfather's roll up SK super chrome long wrenches and his IR impact, I'm removing wheels off a car on the rack. If nobody knows what a "rack" is its a car lift you can drive onto. It has two sliding hydraulic lifts that move underneath the car to lift it. Anyways, I see one of the other guys on another lift grab his impact, hook it up to the airline and remove one side tires (it wasn't a tire shop we just both happened to have to remove the wheels this instance). He got done with the one side, grabbed the airline with one hand and flung it like a horse shoe to the other side of the car underneath. All the guys in the shop did this. I would either pull another airline down from the other side or remove the airline and throw it to the other side. I just couldn't bring myself to let my impact take an "impact" like that. One of the guys did it one time, the air fitting snapped and left a piece in the hose and there were 4 guys in a circle tong to catch it. Looked like they were chasing a mouse lol.

I've seen guys throw their tools around, everything from Stanley and craftsman to snap on and matco, to each their own, i just prefer to keep my stuff clean and treat it like it's someone else's, the less I break because of abuse the less I spend to replace

When I was starting out I had a new service cart and impact gun. I was doing tires and put the impact on the cart. All of a sudden I heard a loud bang. One of the guys had pulled the hose, scraping up the whole top of my cart. I don't know if that's what did it but that impact only lasted about a week.

Here is my box hidden behind all the mass of my stuff. I'll get around to clean it in 5 to 10 years.

I'd be unhappy, even on my 100$ cart I'd be ready to throw some wrenches lol

Just started filling my Husky box. Wrapped a cookie sheet in carbon fiber vinyl and bolted the Olsa tool organizers down to it. I still need like 6 more socket holders.
