New member here I did a refurbish on an old mac mb1500 box I got for cheap online. I used a stall mat from TSC for the topper
It's the nicest box I've ever had.

Thanks I looked around and for $38 for a 4×6 that's 3/4" thick.I think I spy the remnants of that stall mat going to good use!
Thanks it took alot if sanding and some sunrise red krylon spray.that MAC cleaned up nicely
That's a lucky break!
Did you ever consider going with a second triple, vs a top box? Are you happy with the space per dollar equation of the top? How's the visibility in the top drawers and hutch area?
I've got a 1033 and 1 locker, plus another single bay top/bottom, and things are getting very tight.
Bought this a couple of weeks ago from a pawn shop, in good shape mechanically other than sticky sliders but it had pretty dull paint that turned my shop towels red when I gave it its initial cleaning. After some research it's clear this is a common issue on this vintage of box due to the use of single stage paint without a hardener - so not wanting to tackle a re-spray I decided to go the "easy" route of vinyl wrap. Twelve hours and about a hundred bucks later it came it pretty good, solid five footer for sure. Now to fill it with some tools!

i just posted i have the same box. i did a tear down and rattle can. it took some time but it was cheap.
i love this box

Yea I agree i would like it better on the top. Beggars can't be choosers. It was my first real box and what I got it for I couldn't pass it up.That large drawer on the bottom still boggles the mind![]()

ok. I'll play. Meet "Frankenbox". I considered buying a new toolbox for quite a while. I admit some of the 60 to 70 inch ones are pretty nice. But I'm really attached to the Craftsman top box I bought when I was a mechanic's apprentice in '93. It has a sticker from every place I have ever worked on it, including my current job. I wish I still had the bottom box but it didn't survive a move and hence the cheap Husky. But it works fine for the infrequently used tools. The black Mastercraft works well for wrenches, sockets and all other commonly used tools. IN the end I decided I was happy with the boxes (it's more about what's in them, which I think had always been true) so I just bolted them together and added a varnished plywood top. Works for me.
Cheers,
Bill
Thanks i guess that's my talent I know the value of a large variety of things from power equipment to tools and toolboxes.Wow! Great deal, Matt Paul.

Facebook and craigslist it seems like they are scoured.Dammit I scour the local buy sells for deals like that and so far no luck.
Good score!
Are they the inserts that go in the handle ends so the labels dont come out????

Recently moved to a new house and finally decided to build myself a tool collection for home use. I started with a HF 44” Series 2 box and built up a set of tools (mainly gearwrench and other asian brands) for light repairs and maintenance work. Not pictured below are several blow-molded cases (OTC torx master set, schley Honda bushing tool, Hf rear caliper tool, etc). Any feedback is welcomed. I did not expect to run out of space so quickly, lol.

Get some wrench rails and run your wrenches in both directions. might all fit in one drawer. get a pliers rack and you will have more room in the pliers drawer. nice thing about us general is you can add the top box and a side locker and a side 7 drawer cab. and then buy even more tools. 'tis the garage journal way.
Thanks. Any recommendations on a wrench rail or a pliers rack?
