My Craftsman box, with a Gedore magnet.

It's not even a ball bearing model. The horror.

It's been awhile since I've bought a new home box, but I got a bug to get another older snap on box. I finally came across this 1989 KR660 and Kr690 combo. I'm super happy and the box is in great shape for being over 30 years old.

Yes I was being sarcastic about my harbor freight comment. I like the company. I just thought it would be neat/ funny to rename the boxes for cosmetic purposes. It's like owning a fake rolex, to each his own.
I definitely like it, and a lot of people I know have done the same exact thing. Snap on probably sells a lot of badges lol

Hello! I'm new here. Beautiful boxes everyone! 😎

I'm an apprentice mechanic who's slowly building up a tool collection and hoping to get a box or service cart soon. For now, this is my "poor mans" set-up that works for me for the basic services ect.

The box is a vintage non name brand side/top sitting on a Husky 9 drawer parts organizer, a custom screwdriver rack that is supported and hangs on the box (I used a cabinet trim piece) I added a 2x4 for my wrenches (metric left/SAE right, same with sockets) everyday hand tools sit underneath them. Where it sits I've added a 3 prong power plug and a 2 prong plug with an iPhone charger, wireless speaker/flashlight micro USB charger, DeWalt 12v charger and a Ryobi 9.6v charger. Hand tools and pliers/wire strippers sit in trays and on a rack I made when I was bored. The black box holds my tap and die sets, drill bits, my drill/air tools and the like. The stack on organizer and gray box are my parts boxes that hold fuses, bolts, timeserts, coil packs, pack boots, spark plugs ect. The parts organizer holds loctite, zip ties, pens markers notepad to take notes, small tools and what not. My impact wrench, HF light, parts organizers ect hang/hook off the side of the box.

Everything is lined with pieces of yoga mat in my favorite color, extreme green.

It's not the best, definitely not big, but works for me for now and even when I move to a bigger box, I'll still utilize this. Sorry for the long post too!

Hey, thanks for the welcome. Definitely make a stop in Harbor Freight tools, their new Icon line of hand tools is great, I have quite a few things from there and if you pull up the coupons on your browser, they always have 20% off and free items like led work lights, parts bowls, screwdrivers ect. Napa is another favorite with their line of Carlyle tools.

Here's my offering. It was a Father's Day present last year. I've put all of my US made Craftsman stuff in it to start, then starting adding better stuff as I've found deals. The plan is to add more sockets and wrenches, next. I plan on adding drawer photos eventually, but I'm already contemplating changing the layout a bit lol.

Thanks! I feel it was a good deal. For my purpose, having the work bench top and the pegboard is certainly a plus. I wish the drawer layout was just a little different, but that's probably more my fault with how I have the box organized.

Alaniho - I’ve done a fair few trips to Orlando over the years, so can share some advice.

Firstly, the bad news. The good days are over. There was a time you could buy decent U.S. made tools in Sears for very little money, either their own Craftsman brand, or many other decent brands. Sadly no longer. It’s all Chinese stuff there now.

The other problem is that the exchange rate is pretty dire right now. I’ve been there with $2 to the £ which makes everything cheap, but not now. This will recover over time.

My advice - focus on the mid tier manufacturers that make decent products at reasonable prices. I’m thinking of firms like Channellock for pliers, Bondhus for hex keys, Williams for Sockets and Wrenches, and so on. BUT, do your homework. Williams make two lines, and only the better is U.S. made. Williams offer screwdrivers similar to the Snap On hard handles for minimal money.

For the most part you will have to order in advance. Not usually a problem. Most hotels will hold packages for you so shop from places like ToolsDelivered.com (for Williams) and Epstein’s. Even with the current exchange rate, they are still cheap! If you are there for a couple of weeks you can probably order when you arrive.

If you’re flying, watch the weight. Go for small costly stuff such as small wrenches, sockets, bit drivers and pliers. Good time to get a complete set of quality 1/4 drive!

If you fancy some Snap On, ring them on arrival and find out who your local rep is, then ring him and arrange to meet. I found that U.S. reps tend not to have as much stuff on the truck as their U.K. equivalents, so again, maybe place an order in advance.

Good shopping and enjoy your trip!

Nice setup. Do you like the black oxide Proto wrenches? I have some SK and Allen brand in black oxide.

Sent from my iPhone using The Garage Journal mobile app

The black oxide proto long pattern wrenches are the absolute truth. I have a satin standard length in sae/mm as well they are nice wrenches also but don’t get nearly as much use due to the length

I like the ultimate wrench stored in the drawer :D

It’s an absolute necessity, most of the time the fasteners have seen an adjustable or pair of pliers before I get to them. That and the substructure for the equipment is severely under built in certain areas and requires extensive surgery at times

That seems too good to be true.
It was on Facebook for one hour. I messaged him asking for his address and I also asked "$150?". Thinking it could of been a typo or something. Welp, he replied "yup, 150."

While we were loading it up I think he was regretting it.
