Here is my Us General box, love that thing great box for the money! The little old Craftsman box on top was my first box my dad gave to me. cleaned it up, fixed the drawers slides and polished it a couple weeks ago.

IMG_2391.JPGIMG_2243.JPG

Those are my other boxes. Gladiator 46”, Craftsman 26”, and the Blue Point at the end is my fathers.

I just picked these up the other night, $100. My garage is small, 20x20 and I already had another box in there but I'm running out of space to store things and for the price I had to pick this up. So now I will have to re-jig some stuff.

The two smaller cabinets are Sears Craftsman, the larger bottom unit is a Beach unit.

Not sure how I would go about cleaning these and to what extend I want to refurbish them. The large unit has a dent in one of the fold out covers. But overall the boxes are sturdy.

Any suggestions?

I'm still pretty new here.....am better with tools than computers. I was inclined to include a photo of one of my toolboxes and ........you guessed it........I ran out of talent, no idea how to attach a photo to a reply. How about some guidance.....

Instead of clicking the "Post Quick Reply", click "Go Advanced". There will be a "Manage Attachments" button below the text box.

Will keep them as they are. He got them used before I was born and doesn't remember much of the history of them (wasn't important at the time). I can remember being small enough I couldn't

I'd like to know more about the lower box as I've never been able to find another one quite like it with that style of Century logo.

Those Craftsman boxes are made by Beach too. I bought a used Craftsman/Beach box that was dirty, I just removed all drawers and slides and cleaned all the dirt and dry grease off. Then relubed the slides and put it all back together. No sanding or painting.

I'm loving the results I'm getting with Grez-off. Much better than Simple Green (and I've been a fan of SG for years) - So far the GO seems to be Paint safe too! (SG is not so much...)

Thanks did not know! I’m going to start a thread. I took the big unit apart. Removed the drawers and pulled the slides they are soaking in warm water with soap. Couple of the slides are a bit bent but all drawers slide pretty good. What did you use to relube the slides?

The outside of cabinet does not look bad. I’m contemplating what to do. I don’t think I’ll do a complete spray of everything, was thinking doing the the exterior of the large cabinet, front face of the drawers and line the inside of the drawers with the rubber felt/mat.

Still need to figure out how remove the handles it appears they are riveted on. I believe even the tool was in the box to remove the drawers.

My grandfather passed away a few years ago. His daughters cleaned out the house and this was taken by my aunt just because she didn’t want it to be thrown out. Long story short I asked her if I could have it and she was more than happy to give it to me. Super excited to have this in my garage.

I used an old toothbrush dipped in wheel bearing grease, painstakingly greasing the full length of every slot. The slides were lubed with grease from new, and my toolbox sits in a clean environment so there's no problem with dirt sticking to the grease in my situation. This was before I joined Garage Journal, before I read this thread:

Great toolbox! Congratulation on nice addition to your boxes!
Can you make some pictures with the front panels opened and inside of the drawers (in case they have dividers)

Nice pickup, before obtaining did you feel as if you were running out of room in the Homak 54"? Nice box btw.
Late reply my bad.

I probably could have used the extra room eventually later on. But, for 150 bucks I couldn't pass this up. I ended up selling it to my old man and giving my brother the little old Snappy I had had too.

Hello. My name is Larry and I’m a tool addict. I have lurked here for round about 5 years and am ready to admit that I have a problem. I don’t keep buying tools and tool related stuff because I truly need them, but because I truly want them. Having admitted my addiction, I would like to offer up some pics of an acquisition from probably 10 years ago. I believe it was a 5 dollar bill. Here are some pics after a thorough WD soaking and a little metal hammering to get the lid to close straight without rubbing. The orange rust is flash rust and it’s otherwise very solid. This little box has some nice features and seems well built. But as you can seen on the lower right drawer, the badge has been removed. Does anyone know who the maker is, or have any pics of one of these all gussied up? For now I’m just going to clean it up with a WD bath and 0000 steel wool. Any thoughts?

Looks to be a remline box.

My first impression was the same - Remline. I have 4 other Remline cabinet/box combos. The handles are similar, but different. My Remline drawer fronts are single thickness, but this mystery box has double wall fronts on the drawers. The drawer glides are also different/better on the mystery box. But the most significant difference is that all of my other Remline stuff, as well as every other Remline box I have ever seen pictures of, is badged on the left. Almost always lower left. But also rarely upper left. This mystery box was clearly badged on the lower right.

Fatstreet1, Welcome!
Random guess: would Yorktown badge fit there? Never saw one like that, but I think their emblems are on the right

TC429, I might've missed it but you built this, right? If so, do you have pics of the build? https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=993901&d=1585881553

just made the cart, bought the two craftsman cabinets... the chassis was just some scrap 3" angle, a couple scraps of like 6x8 tube cut up to 'U' and 'L' for the end bottoms, 1" thick rubber blocks bolted thru to hold boxes to 'chassis'... wanted it to be a 'lowrider' as floors at work are bad, seen many boxes fall over... just bent sheetmetal for the 'legs' and 'table' for the vise, 1" hydraulic tube(from scrap of course) handle, the stereo box end was just 14gauge sheetmetal tacked together...the stereo lift thing was just hydraulic tubing thru hydraulic tubing as pivots(a crude 4 link) with a model sailboat winch 'servo' that just runs a length of all thread as a jackscrew... i was kinda proud of the circuit- a 4 pole double throw switch on the keyed lock operates it, with a single pole double throw switch for end of travel and radio on, no other switches or relays needed...still amazes me it still works going on 31 years later, and the radio has been on continuously for at least 1/3 of that time... know theres been stretches where it wasnt closed up or shut off for a year, but it still always works... the stereo end sounded tinny, so I used silicone to 'glue' 1/4" masonite to the inside, sounds good and solid now- but the fader on the radio is starting to get scratchy, eventually will need to replace it... back in the day though, the retractable stereo was always good for a laugh :)

I am thoroughly impressed, after seeing all these amazing high end setups

I’m not a shop professional, just a weekend hobbyist.

Eventually, I will get all my tools consolidated into one location. My chest is out at the Farm, I have a ton more tools here at the house.

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately...

Henry David Thoreau

Over the last couple of years, as money and time allow, I’ve added storage, and moved tools out to the Farm. I’ve added some tools, and replaced others (passing the old ones down to my daughter, who is working on starting her own tool collection so she can take care of her own vehicle)

f89a2a75b354aa808e4d9fc8fcc47597.jpg

I’ve put together enough socket rails to fill the drawer, have a few empty should I need them in the future.

321a0739c2c325c54b18ac224126afbd.jpg

Added some metric wrenches, the ratcheting wrenches (GearWrench)and the offset wrenches (Sunex, in the rolls) are new. Really liking them both.

a10447842d2c0336132a53a7839ec1f1.jpg

Also upgraded my die grinder and cut off tool (reversible cut off, so I’m not throwing sparks in my face all the time, it’s genius!)

Over the last couple of years, as money and time allow, I’ve added storage, and moved tools out to the Farm. I’ve added some tools, and replaced others (passing the old ones down to my daughter, who is working on starting her own tool collection so she can take care of her own vehicle)

I’ve put together enough socket rails to fill the drawer, have a few empty should I need them in the future.

Added some metric wrenches, the ratcheting wrenches (GearWrench)and the offset wrenches (Sunex, in the rolls) are new. Really liking them both.

Also upgraded my die grinder and cut off tool (reversible cut off, so I’m not throwing sparks in my face all the time, it’s genius!)
