I was wondering if anyone had any insight on the model/date info on this old snap on. It was my wifes grandfathers. Based on the Craftsman (BE) socket/ratchets/breaker bars my most likely guess would be purchased in the late 20's early 30's which matches up with the time frame of the land purchase and house building.

The wider drawers each have 3 partitions. Currently holding the 3/4" drive set and some of the 1/2" stuff.

This looks very similar to a snap-on chest I had posted about six years ago. I believe someone here found it in a catalog and dated it to 1943 or 44.

Took advantage of the 15% off no exclusion coupon this weekend to grab the U.S. General end locker. Got the call that it came in today and picked it up:

I was torn deciding between the blue and the green last year, but I'm glad I went with the blue.

tncumminsguy - I like that 93 octane sticker, I need to get me one of those!

Yeah they are great, I actually have "mixed fuel only" as well. I put them on all my VP racing jugs and other fuel jusg so I can tell if it's 2 stroke etc and so people filling them know 93 cause all my **** needs it.

Picked up this KRL1001 today for $500.

I have that EXACT same box, but mine is still S/O red. Nice box. Still haven't put anything in it yet, but I'm working on it...I think my wife paid 55 or 60 for it a couple years ago.

The white Kobalt is my main box, I practically stole it at $100. The red HF cart pretty much stays put, and is for my cordless tools, various cords, adapters, blades, etc. There's also a black 4drawer HF cart not pictured which is used more like an actual cart or mobile workbench.

Not much to look at, but I recently got my hands on a hand tool box from my grandfather. He was a sheet metal worker (and farmer) until he had 2 strokes and a heart attack in the mid-80s. I barely remember this box from my youth and most of what I do remember is toting it around for my grandfather when he needed it for something around the farm.

According to my uncle my grandfather had to build this box as part of his apprenticeship back in the day. For me, the interesting tidbits are the Sheet Metal Workers International Association Constitution and Ritual handbook (1978) with it's own storage inside the lid and the well worn tools that hadn't seen the light of day in almost 35 years. The lid still had portions of his Local 73 sticker.

It's an eclectic collection of stuff. Some CM, Estwing, Bonney, Indestro, Wiss, and plenty of no-name tools. I cleaned out about 1# of rivets, nuts, and bolts that were new, albeit dusty. He also had his House of Heileman "church key" in there... He was never far from a beer.

I plan on cleaning it all up, dressing the punches (badly needed), and maybe painting the box and put it up on the wall. My youngest wants it and the tools so I told him if he helps clean it all up he'll get when he's a bit older.

Nice! The youngest would not be getting that till he can appreciate it for sure as I'm sure it's priceless.

I'd preserve the sticker for sure - that's part of it's history? maybe use Evaporust to kill the rust and clear coat it instead?

Post this on the Vintage tool box thread as well!

Been thinking a good scrub, Evapo, and clear is likely the way I'm going. There's a few dents, mismatched screws on the handle, and some holes from I believe a different hasp that'll get some TLC. Stickers stays as best I can preserve it.

Well, my youngest is almost 11 and is already appreciating tools. Still hasn't quite grasped swinging a hammer and not smashing his hand but when he does the box and tools will be his. Until then he has a small starter set to use.

How do you guys store sets like this one that come with its own covered storage case? Do you cut off the top half of the case and store the bottom half in a toolbox drawer? I feel that they are easier to access if they are easily picked up without having to pull the entire case out and open it elsewhere.

For me , if it is going in a drawer and comes in a case I take them out of the case , put them in a pliers rack if the drawer is deep enough or lay them flat if a shallow drawer and throw the case away . to me cases in drawers are space wasters.

Same same. Box goes in recycling, pliers go in rack.

I just thought that having the case with an empty slot immediately indicates if a tool is missing and which tool it is. The problem with a pliers rack is that it's not obvious which tool is missing.

I stick a small piece of foam in the empty slots. Cheap and easy. Same on empty socket organizers, those get a piece of colored heat shrink so I know nothing goes there. I also have a pretty thorough inventory by drawer so if I get a head scratcher it's easy to find.
