I was able to buy 4mm and 5mm black yoga mat for $12 on EBay.
I was wondering if anyone had any insight on the model/date info on this old snap on. It was my wifes grandfathers. Based on the Craftsman (BE) socket/ratchets/breaker bars my most likely guess would be purchased in the late 20's early 30's which matches up with the time frame of the land purchase and house building.

The wider drawers each have 3 partitions. Currently holding the 3/4" drive set and some of the 1/2" stuff.

I was torn deciding between the blue and the green last year, but I'm glad I went with the blue.
tncumminsguy - I like that 93 octane sticker, I need to get me one of those!
Picked up this KRL1001 today for $500.
This is her cleaned up. She was pretty rough when I bought it.

I have that EXACT same box, but mine is still S/O red. Nice box. Still haven't put anything in it yet, but I'm working on it...I think my wife paid 55 or 60 for it a couple years ago.
I've been a long time lurker but a first time poster. I finally switched to the KRA15 wrench racks and decided id finally post. Holding out for a KRL1023 or KRL7023 but this will do for now!
That's a K55R from the early to mid 40s.
Not much to look at, but I recently got my hands on a hand tool box from my grandfather. He was a sheet metal worker (and farmer) until he had 2 strokes and a heart attack in the mid-80s. I barely remember this box from my youth and most of what I do remember is toting it around for my grandfather when he needed it for something around the farm.
According to my uncle my grandfather had to build this box as part of his apprenticeship back in the day. For me, the interesting tidbits are the Sheet Metal Workers International Association Constitution and Ritual handbook (1978) with it's own storage inside the lid and the well worn tools that hadn't seen the light of day in almost 35 years. The lid still had portions of his Local 73 sticker.
It's an eclectic collection of stuff. Some CM, Estwing, Bonney, Indestro, Wiss, and plenty of no-name tools. I cleaned out about 1# of rivets, nuts, and bolts that were new, albeit dusty. He also had his House of Heileman "church key" in there... He was never far from a beer.
I plan on cleaning it all up, dressing the punches (badly needed), and maybe painting the box and put it up on the wall. My youngest wants it and the tools so I told him if he helps clean it all up he'll get when he's a bit older.

I'd preserve the sticker for sure - that's part of it's history? maybe use Evaporust to kill the rust and clear coat it instead?
Post this on the Vintage tool box thread as well!
Nice! The youngest would not be getting that till he can appreciate it for sure as I'm sure it's priceless.
How do you guys store sets like this one that come with its own covered storage case? Do you cut off the top half of the case and store the bottom half in a toolbox drawer? I feel that they are easier to access if they are easily picked up without having to pull the entire case out and open it elsewhere.

For me , if it is going in a drawer and comes in a case I take them out of the case , put them in a pliers rack if the drawer is deep enough or lay them flat if a shallow drawer and throw the case away . to me cases in drawers are space wasters.
Same same. Box goes in recycling, pliers go in rack.

I just thought that having the case with an empty slot immediately indicates if a tool is missing and which tool it is. The problem with a pliers rack is that it's not obvious which tool is missing.
