Really nice setup. How do you guys with those big boxes remember what's in each drawer? I'd be pulling out 2 or 3 before finding what I'm looking for.

I don't have a setup quite as big as that but I have a nice big roller and a bunch of smaller boxes I've accumulated over the years and once you have things organized all it takes is using things a few times to remember pretty quickly (muscle memory). Also, some boxes have space for you to slide labels into the handles. The US General boxes do this. Once you get your stuff organized it's probably not a bad idea to make some labels if you think you'll forget.

Upgraded my home box

I just saw a pic of this model the other day and thought how perfect the drawer layout would be for my home garage. What model is it? My current box. It’s messy right now

KRL722. I got this over a 1022 for height and depth, had an option for either at the same price but a 1022 would not fit in the space I had for it, and with as much free space as I still have I'm not missing anything (yet)

Picked up the medium depth SO 3/8 set and a 3-row Westling socket tray. Only downside is now I get to re-org this drawer again :lol_hitti

I figured I would post my work toolbox setup I have now since I added to it. I know everyone seems to enjoy looking at everyone's boxes and setup and discovering new organization and tips. I am in my 35th year as an Auto Tech, I have worked from dealerships to independent shops and even owned a shop once. Enjoy everyone's boxes and commentary. This is a great board for old pro's as well as new DIY guys and in between.

Not quite done but, I'd like to add a side cabinet when they have them in stock again, it's just nice to get everything organized in a drawer. Now I'm making some toe kick drawer below, I hate to waste the space.

The 2 empty drawers on the left I plan to swap out for another 4" drawer. Not sure what I'll put in the right one yet. 20210318_193552.jpeg20210318_193613.jpeg

Ok just gotta ask. You Auto Techs that have been around a while, where do you keep those unique testing meters, tools, harness', etc, that come in those big plastic cases? All I see here is cool looking boxes. I know some dealers like Mercedes, and BMW lend special equipment to the techs, but most, I believe, make the techs buy their own. I know a guy that uses a 5-drawer file cabinet to store all the oversize stuff. Runs a piece of pipe through the drawer handles and a pad lock to lock the cabinet. Not very pretty but functional.

P touch works pretty good, the 3/4" fits in the aluminum extrusion perfect. Just reorganized & labeled everything.

Haven't visited the thread in a while. I was lucky enough to come across a great deal on a box I never even dreamed of having. A friend of mine wanted to downsize and made me a too good to be true offer. So he ended up with my 68" epiq as a partial trade and I ended up with his 84" epiq with power drawer, stainless power top, hutch and side locker. Has the echo locks which I don't need but have a cool novelty factor. The color is candy apple red. It's already full but it's nice to have everything together instead of spread out.

Great KR7100. I remember seeing one at a local indy shop and was just awestruck, such a cool design.

Lockers are the ideal for this, IMO. I've seen file cabinets, upright cabinets, etc used for the same thing. I keep mine in drawers, that's the main value of the 4+ inch drawers.

Congrats, looks great. I sometimes look at my setup and wonder how the hell I ended up with all this toolbox/storage.

Horizontal file cabs work great for this. They make "Flip bars" for better security.riveted to the side frame, then a place for a padlock. Keeping in mind, this only keeps the honest people honest. (Office storage and most toolbox "locks" can be picked with a paperclip. Some older vertical files can be unlatched with a thin metal "yardstick")

Appreciate the post, yes i am a vintage guy as well, two of those boxes have been with me for 30 years. The other I acquired to add to it, I was looking for that specific year and model and found one.

Did the icon box come with the insert for the power tools or is that from another vendor?

As for where to find everything, when you go in and out of your box 50 times a day it literally becomes muscle memory. Someone can ask me where something is and I can say "middle box. wide drawer, 5th down on right" and that's where it is. If your a DIY or hobby guy I can see sometime opening drawers looking for stuff but as for me and most of the people in the trades we know where everything is and why. Time saved, organization and efficiency lead to getting paid so thats why "everything in a aplace and don't move it" helps me do my job better and more efficient.

I have enough storage space that I keep most of those either in my tall locker or large drawers, I also have a roll around cart that I work out of most of the time so the things I use most are there, meter, scope, power probe etc. are there. I have 3 large boxes and I utilize the space I can for storage as needed. A lot of tools that came in plastic cases are still in them but I also took a lot of those cases and replaced them with other storage organization to save space.

Thanks, I feel the same way but love the box so far. I had to remodel the garage but the new shelves are working out even better than the old setup. (Here is one set)

New box arrived late last week, Rollcabs.com CRX7230RC-250. It’s made by Extreme Tools for Rollcabs.com - 72” long, 30” deep. All slides are rated for 250lbs, except the double slide drawers which are rated for 500 lbs. I’m still moving tools into it, couldn’t be happier with it so far:

Looks like a great box! Bottom drawers are double slide I assume? I like the height of the top right drawer, wish some of the narrower drawers on my tool box had a little more height.

Yep, all the drawers that aren't "skinny" drawers have double slides on them. It's funny you mention that drawer, I'm still trying to find a good use for it. Right now I just put PPE in there, but it's such a waste of a drawer with double slides.

Took delivery of my new Harbor Freight Icon box today. Now I've owned at some point all the truck boxes and I will say this box is quite nice. I don't work the average full time tech position in the super busy tech world. I do classic custom motorcycles and am sure this box will hold up to what I need it for. Personally I think it would hold up fro the full time tech to if they could only swallow there pride.

Some serious set ups here. Beautiful!

What does everyone use to clean their snap on boxes? What gets the serious crud and muck off without hurting the paint?

I'm afraid to use anything stronger than car wash soap, but that doesn't do much against stuff like overspray from spray adhesive or spatter from ancient grease...

Scaled back what was in my 5 drawer cart...got tired of lugging everything around our football field of a shop. Call it a preservation measure?

CS454, who makes those yellow wrench racks you have? Are they painted metal or plastic?

Looking for something like that to clean up my box

Ernst! 15 tool gripper and 16 tool regular wrench racks are both available in the Hi-Viz. They're semi-rigid plastic, I'm quite a fan.
