The box is a krl761b that I got a killer deal on. 24 inches deep.
The mac is an MB8800 25 inches deep.
The top is 12' long 25" deep.
Here are the brackets that I used. Uni strut that I massaged to the right size.

Well got some work done last Wednesday night before taking off for thanksgiving. Making a lot of room and getting rid of all the odd colored wood and making it all one. So far I have the front wall 30% complete and moving on to the workbench area tonight, and the leftside wall tomorrow. The last pic is the workbench as it sits right now.

Well I did get alot done last evening, I cut some from the workbench in order to have room for my electrical tool storage next to the work bench and not in front of the utility door. I need to do a thorough spring cleaning next year and get the rid of stuff I'm not actually using. Goal almost accomplished, moving stuff off my car and onto shelves.

I got 8 feet it off a deal on woot and the rest from amazon. tons of pegs and accessorizes too. Its well made, but kind of a pain to put up with outlets in it. Normally that wont be a problem.

Wall Control makes a great line of products. The pegboard comes in 16 x 32 inch pieces and the edges are bent in a c shape so you don't need 1 by's to offset it from the wall.
The combo panels come with slots and holes so you can use standard 1/4 inch hook or Wall Control's hooks that fit into the slots.
Great stuff, sold some to my brother in law and he said he could do chin ups on the hooks.

New to the forum ....and new garage built..... here is my bench so far that I just built. Still haven't moved all the tools to the garage from the basement that they have been stuffed into for the past 7 years. Also still adding lights, more storage and what-nots to the shop.

Welcome to the forum. It looks like you've got a work/fun ahead of you. Just a question, why are those benches two different heights? That would drive me bonkers.

Lol the reason I made them two different heights is for different types of work. I like a taller bench if I'm doing more precision work like carving, engine parts, etc, but if I need leverage and more strength on something I want it lower, like hack sawing, vise work to break a bolt etc. I know it seems a little odd but it helps me not to have to strain my back and such. They are also not the same depth either so I can reach the back wall higher on one than the other. Each was built for different purposes.

Oh I didn't take it that way at all. If I hadn't thought of building them that way I would have asked the same thing of someone else. It is weird, I agree totally. I'm not one for for following he crowd and do a lot of out of the box things.
I got a lot of questions about all the 10 LED flood lights I'm putting in also with wireless control switches.

Hey I have 2 different height benches too! One height for grinder, beating things, and general heavy type work, and a taller one for stuff like soldering, fixing, tinkering type work. Its great for the back to have two different ones. Im not oddly tall or anything either.
Btw...you guys are really making me want to rebuild the 2x4 frame I have under my 36x80x2in wood door bench!

Good I'm not the only "odd" one. I'm 5'10" and it is really a differmce to have a bench 6" taller or shorter when working on different types of things.

Can anyone help me find the thread from the guy who re-painted old bottom chests and built them into a bench, he painted them a vintage color from the 40s or 50s green or ? Not the cat with the Porsche. In this thread, I think his bench was free standing, dividing the shop, not against the wall. Any help is appreciated.Thanks,Moody.

Woodworking bench I built a few years ago. Frame is 4X6 bolted together base of top is 4X6 on edge with 5/4 clear oak countersunk screwed in then plugged.
Wrapped the legs with Oak as well. I harvested about 4000BF of oak in Michigan then had a it milled and air dried in my Barn for 2 years before I shipped it to Oregon. So wood isn't an issue. In total I harvested about 8000BF of White Ash, Hickory, Oak and Black Cherry.
I also made a 24" wide full length extension for assembly that is a space frame and is held in by the woodwork vises. A recycled halogen lamp base supports a leg at the outside edge. I welded a 3/4 in nut on and used all-thread to hold up a 2X4 support. The entire extension bench weights about 25# and the top matches the workbench top.
My welding/metalwork be bench and other tables are in another section of my shop.

Nice. I like the last couple and as always an overhang is good for clamping. These are also storage benches as much as for working area, really use space well. I like that big storage shelf above the one in post # 1952. That really puts some stuff up out of the way off the floor, not impossible to see or get.
That would probably be my next move in the one immediately above, big ole shelf and hang a couple 4 foot light fixtures under with a couple minor shelves beside the peg board for spray cans. Good spot for the sink.

Here is a dirty shot of mine. Simple 2x4 build. Its in progress still. The surface is old cafeteria table tops from a university. They are smooth and very solid.
The legs haven't been reinforced due to wanting to make shelves. The small section in the middle I want to have the little boxes sit on so I can pull one out and put pieces in it and then put it away and it won't get lost.
On the left where there is the opening. The plan with that will be to make a "hinged" platform that will swing out the chop saw to use for a quick cut. If I need it longer than I think I would lift it onto the main bench depending on the overall stability. The table saw would probably slide in underneath on the floor.
On the far right under the vice, I have two drawers to put in.
And yes I need a ballast. One of the lights is out.

12 inch would be great, too deep and sheet just gets piled. Right now the peg board looks good. At some point it can take a lot of space to store a few items one used rarely, the up side to it is it can be easily modified. Don't ever paint outlines behind the tools like they do in grade school shop class.

What I actually like about some of these garages are the modest practical tooling. Not everything under the sun but real bread and butter items a guy would reach for to get some installation or repair done.
This applies to big as well as small, I remember a guy showing me around to rig up for a job and while the place had a crane, shear and heavy break it was pitiful poor on hand tools, clamps, hammers, adjustable wrenches, a couple extra squares floating around etc. 500K on plant and a couple machines but cant spring 500 at the flea for some common items.
When I mentioned this the eyes glazed right over. I can work my way around some big ticket items on occasion but its too painful without enough hand tools.
