Here are some pics of my 16' bench. 2x4s and 3/4" birch ply for the top and plumbed for air. Screwed together with kreg jig and screws so no screw heads are visible from the front.35d3e197484322a8417d72f0210b9fec.jpg392e6d0c3d23c1ef52b5de9efca9492f.jpg84343ff0f774c0bffcd72afa01969e5a.jpg86251eaac4b7d3e09b1d9bd4716f772b.jpg479719b62d928ceff48f74f11df5bb85.jpg82df45f00b45aaecd08cf6fa0b8d3c48.jpg541507221b99bbccd869faec841b3365.jpg3ee62e7f88474a5b2096144f016aaeb5.jpgb13e3df88b7e857bceb0af99188e9eb8.jpg1ca1bbdd56c7442015a8191b296adc85.jpg8748ecf36d28069b08f4ce9a2cc1f5f1.jpg

At least the bench is designed in such a manner that the PVC shrapnel will be absorbed by the wood not the bystanders.

Its still a good bench and 15 mins with some PEX or copper or steel and back to no body complaing.

My girlfriend has shown interest in doing some small woodworking/craft projects lately so I decided to clean up the “junk corner” of the shop and make her a work area. I didn’t want to lose storage space so I used a rack I previously had in my garage.

d155d8984377798dfc06dec58e69db1e.jpg

I’m planning to “t” into the existing compressed air system and run her a line over there and install a dust collector. Best part is that now I can get her tools for Christmas and birthday!

It was a solid truck, but it had to go. Have two other squarebodies now that are much nicer. '83 C10 and '88 R10 Burb

First bench for the new garage is a rolling unit: ex-middle school rock maple bench top, on a 2x2x11ga steel trestle frame, all rolling on the base of a scrapped 47u server rack.

ALL: i brought this old government steel bench/desk home this summer to clean it up and find a spot for it in my garage or shop and threw a 4x8 3/4 inch thick piece of plywood on it and used it as an outside bench all summer sort of with my bride's blessing cause i'm getting projects started and finished that are on my TO DO and her HONEY DO LISTS.

this bench that is covered with plywood and wood scraps now looks similar to this one that I found and cleaned up last year.

i'm guessing the PVC pipe for compressor hit a nerve?

@radio2000 Just to let you know, I'm joking. It's become a huge inside joke around here about PVC.

Lol
Oh, I know. I've read all the threads. But 4-5 whiskeys in, I was just posting pics, excited to show off the bench! Didn't even care!

Radio... if only you painted the pvc pipe black too... coulda said... hey it's plumbed with "black pipe"...

Great design tho... cept for that air issue.

Preciate it.
It's been a good one. In search of some stainless sheet to put on the middle section. Sand down and repaint the top, then add that sheet and back to work I go.

Radio, well done on that bench, what did you use for paint on it?

Thanks Man. honestly, I don't remember exactly. I built it 5 yrs ago. I'm pretty sure it was just whatever Lowe's had on sale, nothing fancy. That, a roller and several beers.

Our old "This End Up" kitchen table became my benchtop.

Drawer box on the left with the stereo on top was my grandfathers from when he worked at Brown Shoe in St. Louis, lots of little storage cubbies inside that held shoemaking supplies like nails etc.

did you just set the bolts on the hockey pucks, or did you join them together somehow?
I took a forstner bit and made a 2mm deep flat bottom hole. Welded a flat washer on the bolt head for threaded legs and just set them in the puck holes. I can slip the bench around a few inches but it's too heavy to lift by hand.

Great idea! I may be stealing that idea for my big bench build! I couldn't remember if the center leg of my bench had one or two leveling feet, but I found a pic and it has two leveling feet on the center leg:

20170612_194939.jpg

I think they're spaced wider than a hockey puck, but I'm definitely checking it tomorrow morning. I may be able to cut a section off of two pucks, then pin and epoxy them together to make a figure eight double puck for the center.
