Here's a pic of mine. Made of solid ash. We cut the tree down, planked it and had it kiln dried. It's about 12 foot long...3.5 foot wide.

My workbench/workshop is small and off the back of my garage (you can see the double doors behind the 'vette). I've been retired 3+ years so the most I do now is small repairs and detail a few cars (my passion) so it's big enough for what I need.

Here is my bench on the other side of the workspace, it was a bowling lane from a bar. It was in my Dads workshop, and I got it when he moved to Florida. Sanded it down and put some poly on it.

The frame is a copy of the Steevo frame. We used 1 1/4 square tube, primed and painted it "safety red" to match the trim in the garage.

As far as the cabinets, we have our own cabinet shop so I made these to my specs. I want to get rid of my roll around tool chest. The thing is too heavy and the wheels have never worked well. Every drawer has 100# ball bearing slides, with the bottom drawer being a 150# slide. We installed a single piece top rail for the handle, still looks close to a roll around style which is what I wanted. They are 48" long by 21 3/4" deep. They are also taller than a normal cabinet ( I am 6-4" and can't stand leaning over to work on something on a bench), the finished height of the top is 45".

Since my floor is out of level by 1 5/8" over an 8 foot span, I put leveler legs in the bottom of the tubes. I had a nut welded into the bottom of the square tube and screwed the legs into that.

Looks like nails to me (check out the outlines of the missing mini bolt cutters near the top on the far right of the pic; just next to the fluorescent work light on the left). Also easy to see on the wrenches and sockets.

Have about $45 in to it with all new materials. I sit on the axle tube to turn the pinion when I pattern them too, so combined weight of 750+ lbs on top, plus all the tube and junk I keep on the shelf. I might add a sheet of light gauge steel eventually so it cleans up easier.

i wouldn't assume that. some people are just more of a neat freak than others. I'm kind of in between... depending on when you catch a glance of my workbench, it might be spotless clean or covered with parts disassembled and tools laying around.

I get pissed whenever people say that about my shop and workbench. Just because you like a clean environment and don't want to live like a hog doesn't mean you don't do stuff. The last couple of months I restored 2 gas pumps, tore down a GM 3.4, built a new picnic table, and had the grandkids out in the shop building new bird houses.



Just clean up when you're done, it's a pretty simple concept.

Here is my tiny workbench. It's not much of a workbench but more like a desk that holds my laptop when I am in my one-car garage detailing. The laptop provides the tunes while I work. It also holds the detailing products. One of my friends who is a custom home builder built this for me in return for some interior dress up pieces I was selling. I drew the plans and he built it. The other main reason for this "desk" was to get the fridge off the floor because of the 8" baseboard the runs around the garage. It made the fridge stick out too much, taking up valuable floor space. The best part of the desk is the plexiglass that is set into the top so that I can put pics or whatever under the glass to dress it up.

Awesome idea for a small workbench! Clean and simple is a good way to go, especially when space is limited. Just as long as there is some room for the beer fridge!

Nowt wrong with clean and tidy. The arrangements underneath the bench are a giveaway as to exactly why you like things so tidy. Go on, just face one tin towards the wall and leave it that way....

My welding table which is an old outrigger pad I found, a little small but I don't have a lot of room and it was free.

I made a wooden bench with laminated fir but it's covered with plywood to protect it I'll get pictures next time it sees the light of day.

yeah, my family gives me a lot of **** for being so orderly. Sometimes my brother will get in my shop and 'rearrange' some things to see if I notice.

It always amazes me how they can think we won't notice when something has been altered or moved. Might as well put up a flashing neon sign of an arrow pointing to the thing.

I'm more of a clutter person myself. Don't mind tidy clutter. Hate mess though. Cylinder vacuum cleaners are one of the best inventions ever.

Tables I finally got around to building after 2 years. Roughly 50' of 4" channel in each table frame (made two). Used 3/4" coupling nuts and bolts for adjustable feet, two on each leg. Has four 2" receivers for whatever attachments I add later. 3/8" table top, 32" deep, about 38" high. I was tempted to throw three of the Cummins engines I have kicking around on top to test it, but was feeling too lazy to put them up just to take them down.

I think you have to look past the bench and see what's going on in the shop. A bench usually plays a big part in that. Messes come and go.

I've often thought the same thing, however just now I realized that I have a bench I built 14 years ago and am quite proud of, but things are so messy, I would NEVER take a picture of it. This spring when I (hopefully) can clean everything to my liking....then I will take pics and throw them up here.

Wow. Just realized that's what women do with their houses and guests. Eh well, I think that may account into why there may be some cleaned up pics in here. JMO.

I'd rather see a messy bench than a spot less one. That's usually a sign that it's being used for something other than a counter to hold your favorite beverage and a laptop. My bench usually has some sort of project on it, but most of the time you can see 65% of it.

A place for everything and everything has a place!!! Yeah that would be nice wouldn't it. My garage is so organized that I can never find anything. Especially the work surface of my bench. I figure when there are no work surfaces left then it is time to clean. The bad part is that after I clean it is good for few days at best and I can never find anything afterwards. Too many bins, boxes, bags, drawers, cupboards and pegboard hooks to hide everything in or on. The plastic shoe box is my best friend and my worst enemy all at the same time. Almost every bin is marked with its contents but what is on the label is hardly ever what is in the bin. My wife calls me Sanford for good reason. I have 4 6 foot Benches a 4 foot Bench and a 5 foot folding table. I cleaned them the day before yesterday and hauled off 2 pickup loads of scrap. Today I think I have a total of maybe 4 foot of usable space. Too many projects and not enough time for them all. I think most of the people here can attest to the clean bench being a rare thing. Or they are very good about spending the last part of their day cleaning up the mess.
