what is your garage floor made of or is this a workshop or family room you turned into a working area? i see a garage door and opener otherwise i would have thought your work area was a dining room.

I'll be using this idea. There are a lot of leveling feet in my future and this seems like a cheaper option than a bunch of heavy duty feet from grainger or JW Winco.

Actually it was a covered, attached parking area that I closed in. The brick is The house exterior.
The floor of the parking area is a decorative exposed aggregate which is not smooth and has small design grooves, this not suitable for shop floor. Because the shop won't be permanent (say 5 years) I decided to cover the aggregate with 6mm vinyl flooring which is cheap and easily replaced/removed.
Vinyl floor is surprisingly durable (although not heat or cut resistant) and super easy to clean. No, not ideal but with a bit of care seems to do the trick. Yes, it looks great...IMHO.....

Recycled kitchen cabinets. Raised them up and beafed them up.

I really like this idea and I’m debating between this and a couple 2-3/4 toolbox lowers with a “countertop” on top of them secured to the boxes

I had a local wood trim shop make me a 16' x 24" x 1 1/2" thick butcher block from seasoned oak. I routed a bull nose on the front then stained, sanded and sealer until I passed out.
It's harder than woodpecker lips but I think I came out good.




The only problem it now has the look and feel of a nice piece of furniture so I don't want to beat and bang on it..................but I will and that will add character. lol

My Habitat Restore $10 per cabinet score:

Top is 2 12' pieces of laminate, so that gives you a hint on the scale I have 4 cabinets leftover as well.

I also have a rolling 4x8 with a vise I use for normal "workshop" tasks, with a OSB top I can replace when necessary.

Inspired by Boyd's great thread (http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=180118), here is my new bench.

I had two matching Craftsman rolling bases, then added a Harbor Freight 13 drawer box. 2x4s for a base and frame, then a basic countertop from Lowe's to finish it off. Paint is just Rustoleum spray cans, "Painter's Touch 2x" in gloss Sage Green, 2 coats over a white primer base.

The countertop is 2 feet deep, which leaves a nice area between the wall and rear of the boxes to store lumber stock.

I really like your build and your storage behind the boxes!!

got this to use as an electronics work bench. for now though it will be slumming it as a computer desk.

its a teachers desk, cl seller said its 70 years old. suits me just fine though id like to find the date on it if there is one. its nicer than the desks teachers had when i was in primary school in the 80s.

anyone who can tell me more please do so.

I have something very similar at my farm that I’m thinking of bringing home and cleaning up

I finally mounted my 3 52" Griplatch tool chests on stainless legs made for kitchen equipment. This allowed me to level, and mount across the back wall. With a 2"x4" top, I made one 166" long workbench. Not 100% sure I wouldn't have been better off to make the top out of 3/4" Plywood...( still may )

I'll play. This is pretty much where everything is going to be forever. There will be one more bench with another vise on it in front of the hoist, but neither item is in here yet. None of what you see is pristine and shiny, but it's for working.
Provided the pics stay where I see they are in the preview, they are, in descending order: Blue, light electrical bench, for doing light electrical tasks. The one with the monitor is another electrical bench. Anyone putting anything greasy and slimy on either of them will wind up talking several octaves higher afterwards.
Since the toolbox can be kind of a work surface, it can play too.
The L shaped and the smaller one next to it is for welding/cutting. I eventually will build a pedestal for that grinder and the other two that are elsewhere.
The one looks like all hell broke loose, including the kitchen sink, is for wood projects. Doesn't look like it now, but was sorting though a bunch of ****.
The one with the blue slatwall is for transmissions.
Holding the poor excuse for a light box quickly thrown together is just a utility table. I got 3 of those for free off of CL. Real sturdy. I think I'll put a pair of those retractable casters on one end of it.

I've never been accused of being a neat freak, but I do like having a tidy, organized area to work in.

I've never liked how it sounded. But for the past 10 years, since finishing the basement for the wife's craft shop, I haven't had a place to have them set up. Now I do! So I decided to change the heads, in the first step in getting them out in the Shed.
There's 2 cymbals there. Both Paiste 18" 3000's. One's a Power Crash. The other a Power Crash Reflector. Both have some cracking at the edge. They were free on Craig's List. I may or may not try to to repair them. They're still playable the way they are.

No, it's a cheapy set. And just a 6 lug. Pretty stout, though. I'll look in the morning and let you know.

Had to do a small solder repair job for a family member, so I decided to take a small unused portion of my bench and dedicate it to soldering. This is the backside of where my bench vise, key machine, and grinder are located. I have a nice shoplight fixture mounted above the bench, and plenty of electrical outlets.

some of those SO CALLED work benches have never seen a drop of oil or a spec of dirt.

Finally complete with paint. Been getting beat on for 6 months and holding up great. All steel frame with full sheet back, sides and bottoms. Top is 2 sheets of 3/4 ply w solid wood flooring I got for less than $10. Not sure why pics are posting so small...

Jeff's looks like a Weller, WE51. I had one of those but now I have the Hakko FX888D which I like better. They heat up much faster than the typical pencil, and in addition to keeping the temp more or less exactly what you set it once you give it time to warm up, they are more comfortable to use. You don't have the long tail end of the pencil with the heating element in it getting in your way since it's in the main unit.

If you solder anything at a bench, it's worth the investment.

I'm relatively new here, been lurking a long time.

Flat tire, why even take the time to type out your negativity on the forum? I know I shouldn't waste my time and effort on you, but here goes. Some people work on stuff that isn't dirty/greasy/oily, some love a clean work bench, some are OCD. I had a friend when I was younger and his dad ran an auto repair shop that did full engine rebuilds, full car restorations, etc, and you could eat off of his workbenches at the end of the day before he went home.

So what, move on and keep it to yourself. "But I always say what I feel." Yeah, that's one thing if you're involved in a conversation or someone asks for your opinion, but otherwise, it's called "being a ****." Just saying what I feel.
