I'm in the same situation. I think I'm going to use the hex drive threaded inserts that they make for wood:

Everbilt 1/4 in.-20 tpi Solid Brass Wood Insert Nut (2-Pack)
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbil...Brass-Wood-Insert-Nut-2-Pack-818798/204806598

I always have issues with t-nuts falling out of their hole over time

check out my post on this thread. found it on here, and it works well if i want to get it out of the way. a quick clamp locks it down to the countertop well

Now hold on there, that "clutter" looks suspiciously like "sorting tools to put into the fancy new toolboxes".

Come back when you not only can't find a flat surface to put something on, you can't even find a spot with less than a 30° lean that might let the thing you want to put down not slide off the bench taking a mighty pile of "really good stuff" down with it!

Nateo for the win! I have so much space now, I am locked up...can't figure out where I want things to go. That's not a sentence you hear too much around this forum. Wifey says this isn't an excuse to fill all the drawers with tools!

After a sand down and restain, followed by a coat of “glaze coat” epoxy. I think it turned out awesome. The epoxy is about 1/8” and super glossy.

My old bench.
It’s made from scrap material from a grain elevator leg.
The front is two boards
The top is maple.

IMStuner, what are your plans for the stereo setup? :rocker: I'm guessing you don't want that space taken up by speakers for the next X years... I ask because I need to find a good place to put my own stereo/amp out of the way, but still accessible for tuning and volume adjustments...

Why not just tack down some tempered hardboard to eliminate the grooves. cheap, fast and will work great!
Late on the reply, but the t&g lacks rigidity and the solid feel that comes with a more solid work surface. Once it's replaced, I still might tack down some tempered hardboard as a sacrificial top layer.

LOL I'm selling them on craigslist. I definitively want my table top space.

I think I forgot to post the newest workbench addition which I made in the spring (old table is here). Again, it's a foldable one, as I don't want to run out of space if needed in my small garage.

PSX_20200330_011047.jpg

It's made of 2x12mm plywood, with a top made of zinced metal, bent at the local steel shop where I bought it from. It's really easy to clean, and you can hold stuff with magnets on to it, and lamps with magnets stay in place.

It's measured so my small welding table (the blue on) just fits underneath. On the right side, I have a cabinet already under the other table, but I just need to weld a new base with casters on it to move it to the right side.

I had those speakers. Lost them in a raid at an old
Grow house many many years ago by a friend borrowing them and before things were legal. P
But my vote is mount the stereo to the ceiling of the garage. Mine is a car stereo amps head unit sat radio usb input etc mounted up
High on the way and some components in the ceiling of my garage. It keeps them out of the way yet still very use able
With remotes

Because theres no fun in a spotless workbench (though I'll feel way better when I clean this mess up).

I have my speakers and TV mounted to the ceiling in the middle of the garage.
My receiver and ROKU are in a cabinet that I keep open when I'm using them. Keeps the dust off when not in use and better use of space than having them on the workbench like I used to. It was some work running the speaker wires and HDMI through the attic, but worth it.

Nice job! What is that - about 3 layers of baltic birch?

Looks like a 1 5/8" solid multi layered door that hasn't had any holes bored yet.

It's laminated from a couple full sheets of 3/4" baltic birch that someone was getting rid of. Its 3 layers, or 2-1/4" thick. I was going to Formica it, but I had a free can of good o.b. poly, so the whole deal cost me $4 in glue n staples.
