surprised this hasn't been snatched up yet. $450 in Oxford CT, came out of a Ford dealer. Looks like a new work surface and some elbow grease and it's ready for another 75 years of service. If I was in my 'forever' home I'd be tempted, but I don't need another thing to move in 5-10 years when we move again

Here's mine. 16ft long and 32" deep. I keep most of my tools in the drawers I got from a blueprint room.

Actually quite a bit of that one is refurbed. I ended up making a couple doors and bought all the peg board. The next one im doing quite a bit of it will be made from scratch and there will be minimal original parts.

I coupla questions on your bowling alley bench top:

1. How did you lift the lane onto the frame?
2. How did you attach the lane to the frame?
3. Could you post photo(s) or sketch of the frame and bracing?

I am building 2x 8-foot benches with bowling lane tops and putting them on casters. Gotta know the secrets.

Don’t buy it. Leaks like crazy for some reason. Im looking to upgrade to something else but just haven’t gotten around to it. Not very smooth in operation either imo

Well I finally finished my new workbench. Ever since I made my last one well over a year ago (two years now???) I have been compiling my list of what I would do to make it better. So this is the culmination of my thinking about this, sketching, and solidworks creation. I bought everything on Black Friday weekend. Saved quite a bundle, but things trickled in over a 6 week period. I still don’t even have some stuff I ordered. Anyway fast forward to now and I have something I am very proud of. I created a YouTube video discussing the bench and some of the features. The video was originally wayy too long and there are so many more features I need to cover in a follow up video. It has also been fun learning about video editing and the investment into the time it takes to produce and edit something better than just uploading a one take shot.

I have several projects lined up on my list and hope to film and share on YouTube just for fun. I think they are all pretty unique projects that I have never seen done before.

Hope you enjoy I will try to pop back and answer questions if anyone has any.

Really a shelving question...

I've built workbenches & shelving systems, but always wood. I want to put some shelves along an approx 15 foot strip of garage wall, about 6' tall, but want to use metal. I've got a hodge-podge of shelving there now, some of those instant metal shelves from Home Depot, some wood shelves I built, some other misc **** plastic shelving I've had around a while. And because life likes to keep things challenging, it's not flat/straight. It has a recessed section, about 6' wide, about in the middle. So I can't just use a straight run.

Suggestions on products I can buy that will allow me to self-design and construct this? I want to use something that will allow me to fit it to the exact dimensions of this space, rather than use pre-existing shelving that always ends up too short (or long). Weight needs aren't anything unusual. I plan on attaching it to the studs in the wall, not free-standing.

For nice looking, strong shelving, I like the Closet Maid “maximum load” double-slot standards and steel brackets. You can get the wire shelving in a couple of depths, 12” and 16” I think. I did a wall in my garage. It’s VERY strong, I can climb up on it. You can keep it off the ground for a clean look (no legs) and the length is virtually unlimited with the joining parts for the shelves. You might end up spending $1800 for your project, though. They don’t give the stuff away.

ASTRO: I agree that the shelving just mentioned with the double hangers has never let me down since i installed them over the top of my pegboard years ago. i tend to put bins with heavy stuff in them on the shelving too and so far not an issue.

these brackets come in various lengths (1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 feet and probably longer) and the shelving comes in 6 to 18 inches that I'm using). i'll grab a few pics and post them up later when i get a minute.

there was also a discontinued line of really stout steel shelving made by FOX (Grizzly used to carry them) if you can find some used that come in 12 and 16 inch long shelving and wall supports were 2 and 4 feet long.

depending on your garage's set up sometimes the big racks (similar to the ones Costco and Home Depot put their items for sale on) can work over the top of a bench cause they don't need any beams at the base. i've got one over the top of my garage fridge that gives me some storage over the top of it and some cabinets I have next to it. here's a pic I had handy of that set up.

Thanks for the info on Closet Maid “maximum load” shelving. That seems like it would work. Couple quick questions, I've never used closet shelving, as common as it is.

1) Do you just cut off the shelves to fit your width? Then recap the ends? I have bolt cutters.

2) I have some smaller items that I know won't sit well on wiring (wobbly). Have any of you faced this? I'm thinking just some lightweight hardboard or particle board? Something thin.

Go to Home Depot and I think Rubbermaid sells it too and no cutting involved. Buy the sizes you need

I hung closet maid across 30ft wall, I am happy with it.

To answer questions, yes cut to length with bolt cutter, then rubber cap on end.
also can vary the depth by changing supports so recesses can be mad flush with other shelves. As to putting smaller items Rubbermaid sells shelf liner made to fit the shelves.

I used the fastrak system, making it easy to modify. Then if you can buy a closet kit to start and add/subtract parts it is cheaper.

Lastly I wait till Menards has 11% rebate as Rubbermaid/Newell/ClosetMaid all think a lot of their stuff.
