1 of 3 in my shop i built from scratch . 2 4ft x 8ft 1" plate top on massive 10"x1/2" c-channel frame with 3x3x1/4 wall legs and 4x4x1/4 plate feet and 5x3x3/8angle connectors for the legs / lift pounts for pallet jack to move them around . . In total i have 2 4x8 and a 4x6 . But there is 3 more 4x6 size in a few friends shops for 6 total i made .

4x6 = 1,500 lbs and 4x8= 2,00 lbs on paper need to get it weiged yet on truck scale .

The uprights are 4x4's that I scavenged from somewhere and the top is an old 3' x 7' solid wood door that was gifted to me. It's seen some use and abuse over the years and is still going strong.

My workbenches are made out of old library carrel tops. A buck apiece at a Shen auction about 35 years ago. I bought about 40 of them.

I've shown my rolling work table before, but happen now to have it out in the middle of the garage for another project, so it is better seen.
It's a modification of the Ron Paulk modular / truss table design, which gives you a double-deck surface. All the tools can be shoved in the second deck, like the hanger on an aircraft carrier.
I also built mine in two longitudinal halves, I can remove a couple screws and lift the front half off the rolling chassis and take it with me somewhere, set it up on sawhorses as a work table or cutting station. And I also embedded a smaller router table in its top.
I also built the rolling chassis so the whole table matches the height of my table saw, to serve as a feed support.
It's where I do most of my large fabricating work, furniture building etc etc.

I paid Paulk his small fee for his SketchUp blueprints, before 'stealing' and modifying his ideas.

This is the sign of a sick tool depraved mind. Happily it is usually only a temporary issue. My kids would see that and deliberately put something on it to mess with pops!

I called the next town over (25 miles) and I was told they had 5 of them so I took off. Guess what? When I got there they didn’t have any.

It just so happened a manager was in the area. I told him what happened and looked around for a minute and then told me that I could have this one (retailed for $300+) for $69. I didn’t hesitate and paid him and he sent two guys out to put it in the back of the wife’s van. I don’t think deals like this happen every day. I enjoy using this workbench and storage.

Jan/Feb/March are restoration months for me, so my shop get's rather cluttered. Floors are clear and safe, but any other horizontal surface takes a hit. If you can find my bench good luck. I picked it up about 20 years ago from a local school district for $5 and came with 3 Wilton vises, sold two off for a descent profit. After getting it home I removed the vises and flipped the gouged up top which was like starting with a fresh canvas. After that I added the walnut border and soaked it with BLO. Although it's been a great bench my shop's getting tight, so I'm considering chopping it in half and selling one side off.

Don't shrink the bench. You'll regret it.

Thanks, no angle iron, just the walnut. I do like it, but hard to come up with more space at this point. I'm really hooked on older Delta machines as they stay accurate, are built like tanks and when a good deal comes my way it's hard to pass up, so space becomes even more an issue. I really have to learn how to pass more often. Either way I love the bench due to it's weight, maybe I just have to move to allow a real sized shop.

Second, the round holes on top butcher block, can you see a wooden doll that runs through the boards? I have the same workbench but mine is flush till the end. I won’t think the rod would be metal, but I want to mount a vise and try to avoid the doll or rod all together, but it may not be possible. Beautiful work btw.

The legs are metal and the cabinet is all wood. The cabinet was painted with a high solid primer and sanded then the same paint, Rustoleum Smoke grey. Two coats. The case work is 3/4" Radiata pine plywood.

I have to make a couple new plugs for the holes. I pulled them out and tightened the nuts on the rods. I havent remounted the metal vise yet but both vises missed the steel rods. It's pretty obvious where they are.

Here's mine. German garages are pretty tight and mine is bigger than normal. Cleared it off for the pic and my current projects with my kids. Bought not built and definitely love seeing some of the great builds in this thread. I will probably build a basic wood workbench around my HF 44" on the other side of the garage this summer. I did build the wood frame and backboard around the bench. I may wire an overhead light also.

A little tank top heater and a clamp on fan would hook you up nicely. IIRC on high you get about 20 hours out of a tank fill.
