UPDATE!!! ... After 7 years, and HOURS on the phone to Wayne Dalton "desk jockies" reading from a script, ... claiming my door is the problem, it has magically healed itself!

It's been almost two weeks since I installed my 3800 and the door has worked EVERY time I push the button! I have been so "gun-shy" with the Idrive, its kind of hard to get used to something that works the way its supposed to.

dont want to jinx it, but so far the 3800 is a GREAT opener! .. should have bought it sooner!!!!

I just completed converting 2 Wayne Dalton doors from i-Drive to Liftmaster 3800. You will have to change from the TorqueMaster spring system to conventional torsion springs to install the Liftmaster 3800. I had our local Wayne Dalton service center come out and change the springs and hardware out and remove the old i-Drive openers. It cost me $514.00 for labor and hardware.

I purchased the new Liftmaster 3800 openers off eBay and installed them myself. The main control pads that come with them are wired and I was in the same shape as you not wanting to run exposed wires so I installed the wired panels right next to the garage doors by the openers and purchased the Liftmaster 378LM wireless controllers to install by the man door to the house where the old wireless Wayne Dalton controllers were.

I love the new setup! I hope the openers prove to be as reliable as the reviews say they are.

Hi SHawkins87, thanks for posting this valuable information.

I currently have the Wayne Dalton iDrive for over 6 years working just fine and a few days it broke. The motor seems fine but the springs gave up and I can tell that because it is very dificult to lift the door in manual mode.

I am planning to switch to the Liftmaster 3800 and I just placed my order in amazon, $296 including shipping, seems like a great deal. The kit I am getting doesn't include the Safety Reversing Sensors, so I wanted to ask you if I can use any sensors, I have a pair of craftsman's laying around. Can I use just about any sensors for that or I have to order the Liftmaster 3800 specific part?

What Torsion spring should I get, is just one or two springs that I need to get, what drums should I get and what torsion bar(s)? I would really apprecite if you can assist me with this as I am no expert on this matter but I am good with tools and fixing other stuff around the house.

PD: If you think there is an easy fix for the Torquemaster spring, can you recommed where to get the parts and then I can cancel my amazon order.

In 2007 my torsion spring broke and no one would sell me just the spring. "Too dangerous for a DIY to replace"..... was the standard line. Well, coming from tattoed, pierced, hat on backwards dudes, well let's just say if they can do it, then I am way qualified!!

I ordered new Liftmaster and upgraded my springs from http://ddmgaragedoors.com/. The owner, Dan, spend a lot of time helping me select the correct stuff. The install was a snap. Check out his website for great tutorials and he has photos to help. Prices were fair and want to support a small business.

Everything has been working perfectly since installed in 2007. Btw, you will love the Liftmaster. It is so quite!
