Liftmaster 8500 adjustment issue

I have a Liftmaster 8500 that I installed on my garage and its been working for 6 years with no issues. But recently it started acting up intermittently where it wont close. After it hit the floor it will open up again. Sometimes it takes 3 cycles of up and down before it closes. So I decided to adjust the limit but it wont work now. I cant even finish the process of adjusting the limit and set force procedure. Looks like it always losses the limits after setting it up.

I checked the door and cable tension monitor but still can't fix it. Sometimes it will give me the 9 led flashes (tension monitor) and sometimes the 13 led flashes(adjustment issue).

Call Liftmaster, probably a circuit board issue.

check that the set screws on the back of the shaft locking collar are tight. They have been known to come loose. I recently had a customer with this exact problem. The sets screws were loose. After tightening them and re setting his travel limits all is good.

Exactly, I had that same problem and figured out that the position sensor collar was slipping. Tightened up set screw and problem solved. I did a post a couple years ago about it

Do i need to remove the opener from the wall or I can just open the cover and adjust it there?

Exactly, I had that same problem and figured out that the position sensor collar was slipping. Tightened up set screw and problem solved. I did a post a couple years ago about it

Did you tighten the setscrews on the shaft collar? If you cant tighten them anymore then they should be tight enough.

No, the one inside the garage opener. Its the small setscrew located next to upper gear.

I have never needed to tighten any inside the unit. Is everything working or did tightening that setscrew make things worse? Just a question. You said you over-tightened it. Why would you want to tighten it more?

The set screw I show in the diagram from my other post just needed to be tightened enough so the collar would not slip on the shaft. There is no level of tightness I can say to do other than tighten it enough so the collar doesn't slip. My opener was removed when I was figuring out what was wrong so I can't say it has to be removed to access the inside. I'm assuming the internals of the 8500 are basically the same as my 3800.

When that also didn't work they shipped me a brand new unit to replace mine, along with a return slip to ship my old one back to them.

I did call Liftmaster today but they need me to be home so they can troubleshoot it and send me a new part if needed.
It's good to know they will send brand new unit as a replacement.
I actually called a professional garage door guy and even him can't fix my 8500 issue.

Make sure the coupler is tight to the shaft as mentioned. Liftmaster will ask you about this.

Sounds like an encoder issue. I've had to replace more than a few. Enough that I make sure when I do a install I have a spare with me.

Liftmaster will walk you thru the steps needed.

I know many on here love the 8500 and for many for a good reason. But here is a great example of the troubles Liftmaster has had with them. The funny part is every time I would call with a warranty issue they would say that's the first they had heard of it....

I will say that when you get one that stays working for a year they generally are good to go and will stay working.

I was able to speak to a Liftmaster tech support (after waiting on hold for 45 mins) and he said it is the logic board issue so they will be sending one to me. Hopefully if will fix the problem.

I had the same issue with 1 of 2 brand new units after a garage remodel. Adjusted everything possible, tightened the collar, and could still not get it to work right. My garage door guy came out, experienced the same issue, and just replaced the entire unit. Has been working well since.

After a month of calling Liftmaster tech support back and forth, finally they sent me a whole new unit and so far its working.
