I have two Liftmasters like you wrote-of, and while I did replace the wall control units, because of issues, it was done under warranty, at no-cost. If you look on-here using the 'search' function, you'll see some issues discussed. I have never-experienced a garage door opening on its own, without my input. I do not have the internet controllability activated, but I do have the OH doors 'plumbed-into' the home alarm system.
I like the OH headroom that the jackshaft openers provide, here are some pics of using the space above the doors, and also how to provide lighting below the doors, so I have even lighting, OH doors open or closed.
The platform above the doors is for lightweight, bulky items like Christmas decorations and unused storage containers. The lighting is Costco 4 ft. LED luminaires, $20 apiece on-sale, for me, their lighting capacity is great. Up or down, the OH doors don't interfere with my lighting in the space below the OH doors. A sharp eye will notice the center luminaire is a florescent twin-bulb. I had it and used it, it was gifted to me and now it does good duty. I also have two of the Liftmaster wireless-controlled luminaires (380LM), one between the OH doors of the attached 2-car garage, and another at the door to the house. Open either the OH garage door, the exterior side door, or the door to the house, and the two wireless-controlled luminaires turn-on. My 380LM luminaires cannot use LED bulbs, the instructions say they cause wireless interference, and I was able to prove that, during my installation, I now use Edison-base screw-in florescent bulbs in the 380LM luminaires. The LED Costco luminaires, though they are a few feet from the Liftmaster 380LM luminaires, do-not interfere with the wireless reception of the 380LM units. A different frequency, or enough of a separation, I dunno, I don't need to investigate.
