Lincoln AC225 vs 210MP

Good afternoon. I was in the LWS yesterday for gas and the salesman showed me a Lincoln 210MP. I don't do a lot of welding, but have wanted a mig for a few years. I read several positive reviews concerning the 210MP and considering the purchase before the $200 rebate expires. For stick welding, would the 210MP perform as well as the AC225? Have you been happy with your purchase of the 210MP and do it again?

Appreciate your feedback, thanks.

It would do much better for stick because it is a DC unit. If you want to get a nice 200 class DC welder, you're not gonna do better than the 210MP for the money.

There are better welders, and cheaper welders, but this one seems to have value for money sewn up.

210mp wont burn 6010 if you use that. Not many inverter machines will.

The drive wheels on the 210mp have an issue with wobble. Some have replaced them and the new ones from Lincoln still wobble. When I had my 210MP it had the wobble in the drive wheels, but it still welded just fine.

I never used mine for stick, but I welded quite a bit of 1/4" with .035 wire and it welded phenomenally well. Made me look like a good welder.

Thank you for the information. I don't use a welder much, but wanting a mig for home use and be able to stick weld at least as good as the AC225. Once I have a mig, not sure I would use the stick often.

Thanks again.

Did you sell the 210MP because of the wobble or upgrade?

Thanks

I know you didn't ask me but I have one and the wobble doesn't effect my welds at all. There would be no need to sell.

Glad you posted, appreciate the feedback. I'll take any information I can get from people using this machine.

Thanks again.

We have a couple and they burn 6010 just fine. No drive wheel problems either. Great machines.

Unless they updated the firmware to get them to run 6010, I would have to see it to believe it.

Im over on welding web and I havent seen anybody mention that they have upgraded them to run 6010.

210mp hands down. You should be able to pick up a used AC225 for $100 if your heart desires.

No.

Im a hobby welder and mostly play around, build jeeps, etc...

I bought a TIG welder and basically stopped using the 210MP and after it sat for 6 months unused I sold it. I dont let expensive pieces of equipment sit around unused.

TIG welding is more my speed although a much slower process than MIG.

But but but, everyone knows that the 210MP is a Tig capable machine and you never need AC, accoridng to many on here. That mig machine should have solved all your problems and then some.

yup...

My dealer let me borrow the full Lincoln tig setup for it and a bottle of argon. I played with it for a couple days and brought it back and said thanks but no thanks. Lift start *****. Let me rephrase, lift start doesnt ****, it has its places when you cant use HF Start, BUT when its your only choice, lift start TIG *****. And the low amp side of things was marginal. They "claim" 10 amps I think it was. I never could keep it going below about 20 according to my buddy who would watch the screen. You cant weld thin stuff unless you can get down to 10-15 amps and keep it stable.

All that and the pedal hook up was an after thought through the side of the machine behind a door, manual valve on the torch, obviously no AC, etc...

MIG welding for me always feels like I am out of control, even though I can manipulate the puddle and control everything and I get good welds, I guess I dont care for all the popping, hissing, spatter, etc... I can sit down and TIG(I am NOT what would be considered a "good" TIG welder) and basically kind of get into a zen state of mind and sit and concentrate. I cant TIG weld if anything else is going on around me, I lose focus to easily. No music, no people, etc...

I was the same way (learned TIG first). Took me a long time to get comfortable with MIG.

I own a 210, I think it's a very good MIG welder, have never tried it for TIG or stick.

I'm just a hobby welder, certainly no expert.

They are great on stick and super asset is they work on 120V but what is the amp rating at240? I doubt its 200. Its a 1/8 lo hy machine, probably 140 or 150 top.

I own a 210mp. I think it is a great all around welder. I have been very happy with mine. I bought an aftermarket TIG set up off ebay for it. Saved a couple of bucks. Been happy with that too.

I've burned pounds of 6010 on inverter machines. Granted, not this specific one, but my miller dynasty, lincoln invertec and miller maxstar run 6010 all day long, all inverter machines. In fact I don't know any piping contractors that don't run an inverter welder and they all run 6010. Where do you get that inverters don't run 6010?
