Has anyone use one to open and close a custom built carriage door?

Ayuh,.... 'n Surplus Center offers quite a few of 'em,...

With their shorter action, I'd think mountin' by the door's hinges oughta work,...

I just might scrap the actuator plan because i cannot link it to my home automation. My question is if I use 2 openers in the video, put each one inline with the door jamb (need ceiling clearance for lift) and keep the pivot connection the same on the door would it work?

Why not just get a set of motors designed for driveway gates? Put them up hi so they're out of the way and they generally have a pretty small profile, as well as all the relevant control systems that should integrate with your home automation.

You could use the IO link, some limit switches, and relays.

You should ask over here. These guys are the insteon experts.

You could fab one up out of a liftmaster garage opener with myQ . Then you'd be able to use your phone to open and close it.

I did, the relay they suggested is around $150 lol.

You got that right - gate opener hardware is expensive!

I think you're on the right track with residential linear openers, as long as your doors aren't too heavy. You might be able to find commercial ones, like they use in supermarkets.

I m figuring the doors are gonna weigh less than 200 lbs. Got a free over head opener and hv mine so for now gonna try n use 2 overhead garage door openers. 1 for each door mounted parralel to doo jamb. Did a mock up with blocks and hinges. Seems to work. If that doesnt gonna figure out the actuators.
