The penetrating oil (middle) is better for unsticking seazed on stuff. When left to sit it works it's way into whatever is stuck. I'd use PB blaster rust penetrator instead but that's just personal preference.

The lubricating oil is for anything that needs to run or slide smoothly. It is kinda the same idea as WD40.

I find they work pretty well. I use them for alot of different things around the garage and house.

I love Kroil. Little more pricy, but it works well. Added bonus, it smells great.

The penetrating oil is the fist I have used.
I think it may have been the first on the market.
It works great on rusty nuts and bolts.
It is NOT a lubricant.

I have no issue with Liquid Wrench, I believe I have a can of it in the garage or trailer. I know that Kroil is better and save that for when it's needed.

Quick check, it's in the garage with a multitude of products....left side.

I have to agree with Kroil. Here in the NE Liquid Wrench just doesn't cut it. I have a can or two and haven't touched in a few years.

Excellent value. I use liquid wrench for the light to medium duty stuff. Kroil is used when things are ugly or I only have one chance at some goofy OEM bolt.

+1 And the smell of Liquid Wrench offends me.

It's funny, but I love the smell of Liquid Wrench. :) I think it's because it reminds me of when I was a little kid and my dad had a small can of it - one of those cans with a spout on top like you would get lighter fluid in.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I'm going to get least the penetrating oil and try it out and have around the garage.

And sorry for the newb/stupid question. where can I get PB blaster. I not seen it in Wally World but also not looked other places very hard yet. Does Ace or Auto stores carry it? Mendards, Home Depot etc is about 20 miles away.

Isn't liquid wrench basically kerosene? I remember reading that while researching it's effectiveness. I've never had much luck with it.

I use atf & acetone mixed in a spray bottle, it works alright.

The new WD40 penetrating oil is actually pretty good too is easily available over here.

Old (1960's) Liquid Wrench worked great! By 1980's, not so well as they changed the formula for environmental reasons.
PB Blaster should be available at Menards, Home Depot, I know Tractor Supply carries it up here. Maybe you have Farm King down there?

The company I worked for for nearly 40 years had every kind of penetrating spray. The purchasing department bought for the best price. I never developed a preference for one over the another, at work. The MSDS for most of these products shows much same components.
If I had to chose two of these penetrating fluids. I would buy the one from Walter for cold work. I like MOOVIT for the times when the stuck fastener can be heated. MOOVIT works good on the milling machine cutters.
I like WD40 for water repellent and a light solvent.

I like the liquid wrench, have the lubricating, penetrating, & others

in those regards, i found an article a while back about best penetrating oils and methods

Removing rusted parts with penetrating oils, even if you're not mechanically inclined, this might be worth noting.

"Machinist's Workshop" recently published information on various penetrating oils. The magazine reports they tested these products for "Break Out Torque" on rusted nuts and bolts. A subjective test was made of popular penetrating oils, with the unit of merit being the torque required to remove the nut from a "Scientifically Rusted" bolt.

Item & Average Torque Load Required to loosen nut:

NO Oil Used 516 foot pounds
WD‐40 238 foot pounds
PB Blaster 214 foot pounds
Liquid Wrench 127 foot pounds
Kano Kroil* 106 foot pounds
ATF/ Acetone Mix** 53 foot pounds

The ATF/ Acetone Mix is a "Home Brew" mix of 50/50 Automatic Transmission Fluid (ANY Type) and Acetone.

Note this "Home Brew" released bolts better than any commercial product in this one particular test.

Our local machinist group mixed up a batch, and we all now use it with equally good results. Note also that liquid wrench is almost as good as Kroil for 20% of the price. ATF/ Acetone Mix is best, but you can also use ATF and Lacquer Thinner* in a 50/50 mix.

*Best commercial general use product
**Acetone and Lacquer Thinner may damage or remove paint from painted surfaces and should not be used near painted surfaces.
Brake Fluid Cleaner is also largely Acetone and should not be used near painted surfaces.

I use what ever happens to be near at hand. I have them all I think. Kroil is the best but expensive so I try to save it for really stuck things, give it time to work, maybe use a little heat. i only use WD40 as a penetrant if I can't find anything else. WD40 is good for cleaning sometimes. And It's cheap at Costco.

To those who say Kroil or some other brand always works.....you are fortunate.

I have run into many rusted fasteners where only heat works.

I try Kroil or PB blaster first.....sometimes they work.....Sometimes they don't.

Kroil has a much lower flash point than PB. Just be aware of that if you put heat to it. Kroil will almost always flash. PB usually not.

I have not tried the acetone and ATF mixture but I will at some point. I have a healthy supply of varous Penetrant spray cans. Kroil, SiliKroil, PB blaster, Liquid wrench, Sea foam penetrating fluid, Freeze off and more. I use to buy anything that look new and inventive.

For what its worth.
Acetone & ATF needs to be shook before use as they separate out.
If you are in no hurry, the vibration of a hammer works the best!
I picked up a VERY OLD engine powered cultivator one fall that nothing moved on. I had it in the shop and every time I walked by I gave it a squirt and rapped it with a hammer. After a couple of weeks things started moving! It was the vibration of the hammer that allowed the penetrant to work its way in!

Giving anything rusty a good going over with a wire brush before spraying the oil on is also good practice, less rust for it to work though.

For those who use heat, melt candle wax into the threads. As it cools, it ***** the liquid wax into the threads.

MOUSE Milk?

Have to admit, that one made me look twice. Brain started trying ancient combinations, because something looked familiar with that name.

Slot cars. 1960's. Some name-related compound used to clean/treat the tires. Tiger Milk? :dunno:

Back to our subject... :bounce:

I am not fussy about what kind it is, I couldn't make it without spray cans, paper towels and Channeloks. The Kroil kraze is fueled by the internet, best thing ever happened to it. Liq Wrench is about as good and 1/4 the cost, buy it off the shelf. I like the CRC just fine too and the farm store had this stuff called super penetrant, was the same as the CRC for about 3 a can and it was really good but liq wrench must have muscled it off the shelf.

If you can carefully heat the stuck part with a heat gun or torch, and then apply the penetrating fluid/oil,it seems to work better. I like the Kroil with the Moly in it.

I have used and bought 100's of cans of spray. Any spray is better than no spray and Kroil isn't all that much better than the rest of them. They cheapened the can and raised the price. Its a good product, its a Snapon class product. Nothing wrong with the stuff but I will take 4 cans of something else for 1 of those. I don't buy as much by the case as I did but some of them come gushing out of the can and don't care for it.
We use as much or more for assembly than dis. That is what keeps it all from sticking. Tightens and stays tight and comes loose next time.
