Very nice. Can you give us an idea (1) what the Lista cabinets cost (especially the lower ones) and (2) what the Unistrut cost for the frame?

Are there Unistrut "attachments" or "accessories" that support the outlets and air? Or are these something you fabbed up by yourself.

Thanks!

Thank you.
It's been awhile since I purchased the boxes from Lista but Motörhead Extraordinaire on the GJ home Page sells them for a good price. The shipping to my location was about the same as one of the smaller boxes.
http://www.motorheadextraordinaire.com/277-41-1-2-high-double-bank
The unistrut can be purchased at Lowes or HD. A 10' stick of slotted 12 gauge strut costs around $25. In the column position it will support approx 3000 lbs. in the beam position it will support approx 800 lbs at 4' long, but in combination with the Lista boxes it will support just about anything you want to work on on a bench.
The electrical connections I found at Lord and Sons out of California. The air connections are supported by the unistrut plastic cap. I got them at the local Unistrut seller. I simply drilled a hole to accommodate a 1/4" not fitting. The caps snap in tight enough to hold them snug. They also sell metal caps.

Well thank you. I took some of your ideas, but I am not very skilled in computer boards. I had one of those electronic boards as a kid you could build things with but the only thing I could get to work was the light.
I may need some advice on how to get the pressure switch to feed power to the fans when it is actually off during the compressor run time.

Its funny what you say about that electronics project kit. I had one of those too and a lot of the experiments didn't work. I think I fried the Op Amp early on and then nothing worked after that :)

Do you want the fan for awhile after the pump turns off? Like to continue cooling the exchanger in between pump cycles? Sounds like some kind of special contactor with multiple NO/NC contacts or a "Delay on Break" relay might be what you need. But I will need more details of your circuit and what it needs to do before I can help though.

Thank you for the help. I will look at the wiring in the control panel and maybe I can utilize some power there.
I would like to keep the fans on for at least 5 minutes after the compressor shuts down as you mentioned to help cool it better.

Amazing work on the bench. I use Unistrut at work and it is great stuff, but you have taken it to another level. I borrowed the tape measure idea for my own bench. Super clean and the lighting really sets it off.

Storage Cabinet Additions

Decided to swap out the plastic round Peg Board I had painted for more of the Wall Control panels I have on the bench. These seem to work better for support to keep a true form with heavier items and modifications are not that difficult either.
IMG_6392.jpg
[/IMG]

The Wall Control had to be cut and bent to accomidate the outlet for the crane. I gave it approx 4" of clearance for a straight or right angle plug. I also bent a tab on the right side that simply tucks behind the plastic Unistrut cover to hold it snug. The rest of the Wall Control panels are held in place with black 1/4" machine screws.

I got the frame back from the powder coating shop, so now it blends in with the rest of the scene. I know it is more money to powder coat the Unistrut instead of simply painting it but they do a great job and it protects it since some of the strut is in direct contact with the floor and any water that may be there from cleaning.

I also had the steel shop cut me out an 8' x 27" 14 gauge sheet and installed it on top of the of the cabinet. This will house small light weight items for ease of getting up and down the ladder. It also closes in the cabinet to keep the tools and what ever clean inside.
I am currently working on the other 5 shelves for the left side of the cabinet to finish it up. More to come.

Absolutely fantastic work akdiesel:thumbup:

Unistrut is such a versatile product, you are only limited by your imagination. We use it a lot in our electrical installations and there is a huge range of accessories available to complement.

Thank you.
I have been working on plans for another cabinet build next to the air compressor as well as boxing in the compressor with Unistrut but leaving the top open for air flow to keep the compressor cool.

akdiesel - do you happen to know the gauge thickness of that Wall Control panel? looks like some pretty sturdy stuff.

Just a thought on your compressor as you are designing a cabinet for it in your head...
An open top cabinet should do a good job of blocking a majority of the noise from projecting out into the room. Maybe plan for some acoustic material to be placed on the ceiling and surrounding walls above it to minimize any reflected noise coming out the top.

The Wallcontrol material looks to be around 18 gauge.
I have not seen any flex with the crow bar, clamps and levels hanging on it.
As for the air compressor cabinet, I will start out with the top open to see just how much noise it cuts out. I will also have to leave approx 8 inches open on the bottom for my exhause vent or I might incorporate a vent line to the cabinet door, since the cabinet could alter air flow to the vent.
I am also going to use my plastic peg board (I had replaced with the Wallcontrol I just showed) and install it for the air compressor cabinet on the upper 3' section. This will allow for air flow as well and I will incorporate a pressure gauge and light indicators to be able to view them when the cabinet is closed.
I will look at some options for sound deadening if needed though as well.

Nice place. Ditto on the Lista cabinets. I have two and they are robust. Might have to add your jib crane design and trolley system to my list of upgrades.

Thank you. Lista and Vidmar seem to have the versatility and strength dept in key.
Feel free to use any of the ideas. This site has tons of great ideas from some very talented folks.
I have certainly used the jib crane to its full potential multiple times. It is somewhat limited being only 7 1/2 feet long but that was the lengths I had to utilize.

And a Big thanks to you for supporting us and giving us a product we can use.
I am in the market for a double bank 59" tall box. So I will be contacting Lista later on for information.

I move every 2.5-3 yrs. No choice.
AKDiesel,

thanks for sharing those pictures and part numbers on the items you used for the after cooler. Currently doing research for adding an aftercooler for my Quincy unit. I will be using copper plumbing.

I will take it that everything is running fine with your aftercooler? I need to find the specs on that unit to ensure max pressure and max temp are fine for my use.

Cheers!

Not a problem. Everything is running for now manually. I have not had time to get the temp switch installed yet. It is in hand but other priorities have taken place.
I do plug the auto drains in to get them to cycle once a day and have not had any water in either tank as of now.
I did have one day of heavy use trying out the new blast cabinet and using an air cut off tool with no moisture in the lines or tanks.
I will be boxing in the compressor somewhat like Shopnut's set up to help with noise and appearances.

[BThe Cabinet Storage Is Done

Finally got around to finishing the left side of the Storage Cabinet.
IMG_6778.jpg
[/IMG]
The cabinet is made out of Unistrut, HDPE, aluminum channel, piano hinges, 28" KV 8800 drawer slides, 12 gauge sheet steel, neodymium magnets, and Wall control.
The cabinet is 8' wide by 93" tall. It has a open shelf above it that is 8'x27". I access it with the library ladder.
There are a total of 10 shelves that can hold 200# each. I could have gone the 500# drawer slides but shipping can really hurt the rear end on these items. But the 200# is plenty for what I store in there, and they extend all the way out.
IMG_6779.jpg
[/IMG]
IMG_6780.jpg
[/IMG]
The doors are made out of 1/2" HPDE with the aluminum channel to protect the edges and act a handle of one side of the doors. The left side of the cabinet I had to cut the two doors, closest to the garage door tract, in half on hinges to bifold them to make clearance for the shelves to pull out. The doors are held closed with the neodymium magnets. They are plenty strong. I had to try two different glues to hold them on the aluminum. I also found some half depth Unistrut pieces that worked perfect for the depth with the all the three pieces on the doors (hope, aluminum, and magnet) to keep flush with the frame work.
IMG_6767.jpg
[/IMG]
IMG_6758.jpg
[/IMG]
The shelves are 12 gauge sheet steel I had bent in a box form at the steel yard and then welded the corners. All the shelves have a coat of the spray truck bed liner i got from Lowes. This stuff work pretty well with no damage after a year on the other shelves I had done already.
Then on the right side of the cabinet I have the Wall Control. There is a previous post on this build as well.

Bench Backsplash Is Complete

I finally figured out how to finish the bottom 3" area below the Wall Control above the bench.
I had some left over 1/8" HDPE sheet from the cabinet build. I cut a strip of 4" x 8' long and another 4" by approx 24" to span the 10' area that needed covered. I siliconed the back side to help hold it but it fit snug anyways. The seem is hardly noticeable.

akdiesel, thanks to you I am starting to collect Unistrut off cuts, lets call it project materials procurement, from the scrap metal bin at work. Most of ours is hot dipped galvanised.

Thank you.
I am not sure what the exact name is called for it but it, but it is a hard, thin plastic cutting board. I got it at "Michaels" craft store. I think that was the biggest they had.

Shop Wall 95% Complete

The Shop Wall section is approx 95% complete. I just installed the last frame work for the far right storage cabinets and the air compressor closset area.
The picture is a little dark due to the sun light comming in from the door. This wall is 39' long. The window areas each are about 6' wide which accomidates the 3' x 5' rolling welding table on the right window bay and the rolling Blast Cabinet and gas bottle storage area on the left window bay.
IMG_6985_1.jpg
[/IMG]

The left cabinets have a total of 10 roll out shelves that can handle 200# each. I store my table saw, miter saw, nailers, tile saw, vehicle towing items, etc... There is also a full 8'x27" shelf above the cabinet for additional storage I made out of 14 gauge sheet metal and had the edges bent to retain items.
IMG_6986.jpg
[/IMG]

The left window bay stores my collection of clamps, rulers, and the table saw stand held by WallControl peg board on the side of the cabinet. The middle houses the rolling Blast Cabinet and vacume system. On the right of that I store my welding gas bottles. I ran hose through the bench to the other side where the welding table is. The library ladder can roll the full destance of the wall and then some to the right where the wood storage racks are.
IMG_6987.jpg
[/IMG]

The Bench gives me a total of 10' 4" of work area. I replaced the existing LED strip lighting with some newer 5050 double row LED strip lighting (a big difference from the last strip lights). This bench can roll over to the welding table if needed with a slight increase in height on the welding table of approx 1/2". It was not originally calculted but turned out just fine if needed. The upper cabinets (Lista) house left over tools.
IMG_6988.jpg
[/IMG]

The right window bay houses the rolling welding table. I installed an overhead light for better lighting when working in this area which needed it. I also made some hooks to store the helmets, welding coat and some clamps.
IMG_6989.jpg
[/IMG]
IMG_6997.jpg
[/IMG]
IMG_6996.jpg
[/IMG]

The right cabinet section (the new one) is houseing a Vidmar cabinet and one of the military rolling cabinets I aquired from a recent purchase. The upper cabinet is set up just like the first cabinet mentioned earlier. There are two rolling shelves that can handle 200# each and are 42" wide x 30" deep. There is also a 12" wide section for large item to be stored. As with the left cabinet this also has a shelf above for additional storage. The Vidmar and the smaller cabinet are temporary till I can fund for a large cabinet.
IMG_6990.jpg
[/IMG]
IMG_6991.jpg
[/IMG]

The Air Compressor Closset closes off the air compressor for two reasons. One to cut down on some of the noise, and two too keep the area somewhat clean from the drill press cuttings down next to it. I used left over 1/4" black HDPE sheet I had for the doors. They are a bit flimsy now but I will be adding some sound proofing material for noise and stiffness. The upper sectin is the same plastic but perforated (plastic peg board painted black). This is to allow for air flow to cool the compressor when running. The lower section below the doors will also aid in cooling but more so for fumes since this was the original location for the shop fume vent. I will be adding some duct work to route it out to the front of the cabinet with some more plastic peg board down below. I have two auto drains. One for the pre knock out drum and the other for the main tank. I have a 12v power supply supporting the two 12v fans, a digital pressure gauge, and a soon to be temp switch to turn the fans on when temps on the supply line get the predetermined temps. The digital gauge is nice in that is reads the air pressure at the distribution line as well as a bar so when the bar drops below the yellow indicators the pump kicks on. This was by accident when hooked up the gauge but I like this fact. The psi gauge and the temp gauge will be housed in a cover just outside of the upper plastic peg board for viewing.

Thank you. You can see the older led strip lighting I had started to remove in one of those pictures. The new ones are much brighter.

Thank you. I am slow to get things finished. It has taken me about 5 years to get this wall this far.

fireeqpsrv

Thank you. I hope to be able to use it for what it is designed for instead of a collection point. The bench has been collecting alot of my other unfinished projects.
