flan,
Thank you for posting this.
I got my replacement 888LM ordered last night.
Can you post the rest of that document please? It looks very interesting! The units made since September 1, 2018 are the only ones with them.
Another thanks for posting this! This is good news:

I have two spares... plus the one on my door... both defective....I have 2 8500 opener and was wondering how I can replace the second one free? I would buy one I guess, they aren't THAT expensive to purchase. Would like to get both swapped with the new version.

I will call them and see what they say...I have four that need replaced. Website says one per customer.

seems like I have to talk to them anyway, I placed the order online and there is a problem, the order isn't showing up and I didn't get an email confirmation.
also said my code has been used when I tried it again
Was that picture from a dealer bulletin on the units? If so, can you post the whole thing or did you only get a print copy?
you guys got lucky, the person I got, told me since I don't have an issue that they can diagnose they cannot send me one. even put me on hold to ask their manager, so I have to wait till it fails or pay for a new one?
I am going to try get another code, but it had been giving me the same code
I called and they would only provide me with one... not cool since i bought two spares...Have you tried the coupon?
With liftmaster tech support don't get excited if you get a dud, call back later.

So I looked at the unit I just got last week and it says 9/18 but does not have the sticker. Does that mean I should get a replacement for it?
Yes.
I'm just hoping these latest "blue dot" units actually fix the "open upon failure" problem...
I would feel better about it is they stated the problem that these units fix! I'm guessing the documentation you found doesn't say much more...This is a good point. There have been other fixes along the way that haven't been successful. The main difference I've seen this time are things like the coupon and the way they have been handling things are different from our side. I've had a unit on the shelf that I refused to sell due to issues with these units. I will be getting a new controller for it and putting it on one of my own doors that doesn't have a opener. The *fixes* in the past haven't given me that much confidence that they would work. Hopefully this is the one.
I would prefer, now they don't fail or leave the door opened......I would feel better about it is they stated the problem that these units fix! I'm guessing the documentation you found doesn't say much more...
"We have resolved the loss of function affecting some of our LiftMaster 888LM Control Panels." I wish it would clearly say that if/when it fails it will leave the doors closed and locked now...

So say we all!
But all electronics eventually fail. Liftmaster/Chamberlain might actually consider it a positive benefit that the door opens when the unit fails, and it could be a design requirement! I can imagine the manufacturer thinks the controlled door might be the only entry to a garage, and failure could result in being locked out: so they make it so that a failure will open the door. I personally don't agree with that, for security reasons.
I really wish we knew more about how they think the opener should work.
