So the support that holds the cheap rest stand on a 6" 1/2 hp craftsman grinder I have broke. It is like, I dunno, 30 years old now. Made in China. Probably $39 new. I've replaced the bearings once already. These type grinders are the consumer ones for doing light jobs because they stall easily. I ordered some inexpensive tool rest stands from Amazon to replace the broken stand. They sent the wrong ones so I decided to look on ebay, CL, FB Marketplace etc for the part or something that would work. Ha. There is an identical grinder some 60 miles away realistically priced for $50 but that is too far to drive. So as I shop I am LMAO at the prices some people are asking on grinders. These are not commercial grinders. These are DIY cheap 1995 - 2010 era 1/3 to 1/2 hp craftsman, chinese offerings, old stuff someone might get electrocuted with if they don't rewire them first, beat up and missing parts. Unknown brands. Stuff HF probably sold for $29.95 20 years ago. These people want $150 to $500 for these, and then if shipped, another $150 - $200 for shipping. Like what are these people smoking? I noticed a consumer grade grinder stand that is $500 in an estate sale. It is going to end up going to the iron heap at that price. I am just sharing what is hilarious to me. There are many used grinders at $20 - $40 too, which is realistic, and many of those have been listed for a month or more. I just can't get over how some people can be so far off the market price. LMAO. Are the rest of you seeing this behavior in your neck of the woods too?

For sure..

My guess is they toss a huge price on it and if somebody pays it great otherwise they could care less if it sells or not

It’s a mystery to me, but even if they were almost giving it away, it just seems absurd by old Chinese made products

The new stuff is night and day better and not really that much more expensive

^^ This is definitely the case sometimes…

Other times it is people aren’t in reality & have no F’n clue!
Or…
Its old. That means it’s an antique.
ALL antiques are worth a lot of money

Not only is it "vintage" but when it is a "Delta" brand then it's like gold. While perusing ebay a while back I couldn't believe the prices on crapped out Delta drill presses and bench grinders. Didn't bother checking Baldor, Dayton or Milwaukee prices.

I've seen used HF wrenches for double retail on FB Marketplace 🤣

Some people gotta be smoking the really good stuff.

amazing that some are so far out of touch. I could see someone getting a high price on a good used industrial grade grinder. And we do see the silly prices on Delta stuff too here occasionally - inexpensive drill presses that wore out their bearings some 20 years ago. I remember when buying Delta meant one could not afford anything better.

Sometimes, if I wonder if they aren’t just trolls

They can get attention from people complaining about the high prices that they’re asking for the item. Does not cost them anything to list the item Why not? Some people enjoy ******* other people off.

Couple years ago I was selling my boat and I had it listed at a fairly high price, but at that time boats were selling high. I got a message from somebody complaining that that was out of my mind for asking that high of a price. I responded. Ask him if he’d be interested if I lowered the price.

No, he wasn’t interested

I would think if someone had a $500 grinder listed with $500 shipping, if nobody jumped on it, they might consider lowering the price a bit.
