More tool box!

Again I know i’m wasting space. I have modified it a little bit so my stubby Williams fit right. I plan on modifying it more to hold some longer wrenches.

Unruh: you are NOT WASTING SPACE so keep posting up your cool garage and your cool tools. While there are many members on here that have garages fit for kings there are also members that have a closet in an apartment and use their dining room tables to rebuild engines on.

once i get Organized you might need to bring some trading fodder over here to fill in your holes in your toolbox. I like trades and old lumber, cabinets, vises just for a start are what i can always usually use even though i may not NEED THEM AT THE MOMENT.

cheers and keep posting pictures and if your kids or pets (if you have any) sneak in for a cameo all the better.

Last tool box pics.

First one. My pliers. Craftsman. I got almost all of them using mostly my Shop Your Way points. I like them. I used yoga mats for the holder so they don’t slide around.

Next is my Wera nut drivers standard and metric. I also have some Kobalt torx drivers.

Last picture is my screwdrivers. I bought the Witte Matco ones because of GJ. They are pretty sweet!!

I’d love to do some trading, but most of all I’d enjoy the conversation! I’m a teacher and don’t get too much tool talk with 7 year olds and the ladies I work with.

Here is a picture of my boy helping my brother on his 51 Chevy

Here is today’s project. I bought this Harbor Freight workbench off Craigslist. It was still in the box but when I opened it, it was missing all the hardware. A guy up the road goes to a lot of estate sales and always has random stuff for sale. I went and checked out one of his garage sales and saw a toolbox. He said he pulled it out of a big garbage bin...!You all are seeing the after, I wish I took before pictures. I paid $10 for the box, it had SCRAP spray painted on the side. It was in pieces and missing a drawer. I took it down to the metal and built a drawer from part of the other pieces. Today I wanna start building shelves on the sides for power tools.

Here is a picture of the new lower drawer.

So I just built a router table insert on my table saw. I’m using that for my joints.

Cool, got them in and they are in tight! Hindsight being 20/20, maybe made them too shallow. I put the divider in the middle so I could also put things in the back. This left the shelves only 8 “ deep. I’ll still fill them, but differently. Still pretty happy with them.

Thanks! I’ll tell you, it sure beats using a fold-up table!!!

This weekend I also changed the oil in my motorcycle, maybe wishful thinking, but I’m excited to get it on the road!

Unruh: well we did have a few 60+ degree days in January so summer should be here soon (hopefully).

yep that looks like a normal SCHOOL TEACHER'S RIDE (hee hee)

i've seen some cool garages with benches that fold off the walls if you end up needing one check out the 12 gauge garage cause I think Jack still has one he uses when his Porsche isn't parked inside.

keep up the great work on the garage, treehouse, kid's garage and keeping the family smiling.

cheers

Thanks for the kind words, the motorcycle is a throw back from a different time. I used to actually be a F&I manager ata pretty big car dealership. I went back to teaching so I could spend more time with my family.

Unruh: i'm liking the before too. sorry and hope you have the parts to change it back if you liked it better yourself.

I bet the roads are a lot nicer to ride on your side of the state in your Harley than over here.

have a great weekend.

Haven't gotten a chance to get out in the garage much lately. I finally got out this weekend and did a couple fun projects.

First I found this Air Compressor on Craigslist. It's a 28 gallon Campbell Hausfeld. It tipped over while being moved and the motor brackets broke. I used some angle iron I had sitting around to make a bracket. The ad said "Works but needs the line into the back fixed", it was the check valve. I found the entire kit on Sears.com for $23.49 and it'll be here on Thursday. The tank was pretty scratched up on this side and the label was really tore up and also shaded. I repainted it made a new logo off my wife's criket.

Next I made some boxes for my workbench. I used my wood burner.

Here they are in the bench.

Unruh: great work on the bins and bench. it' looks AWESOME.

i'm not sure of the quality of your compressor, but if I recall correctly Tim (Allen) the Tool man used to love that brand.

keep up the great progress and I bet you and the kids will love working in your shop more as it keeps improving.

those little models in your display portion of your bench almost look too nice to play with or are they your son's?

Thanks for the kind words. I’m pretty happy with the way the garage has changed since I joined Garage Journal.

The trucks WERE mine, they seem to be his now. They used to be up high, but every time I took him into the garage he would want them. Now I just keep them down low and he has learned they go back there when he is done.

I’m currently working on a hot wheels display shelf for his cars. He LOVES matchbox and hot wheels. I found this online and thought I could make it. About half way done now. This is not the one I’m making, but the source of the idea.

I’ve been making some birdhouses. It started out with one of my family barn that we had on our property as kids. Then I made a barn that was a replica of the one my wife had on their farm. A neighbor saw them and gave me some pictures of a barn they had and now I get about two - three a month from random people. A guy gave me a picture of a ranger station helped build in the 80’s. My first log type build.

Some more very clever work. I love the names on the tool box, the wall display and the bird house.

Thanks! It’s been a lot of fun so far.

My wife recently asked for a small bookshelf for my son’s room. She said I could make it however I wanted!! Here is what I made her.

So I bought a Rock Island Vise and cleaned it up and mounted it on my workbench. It was pretty bad shape and needed to have the tail slide welded.

Today I’m going to try to build a grinder stand. I got a 6 cylinder crank shaft with the fly week still attached. First step is cleaning it up.

All done. I was going to go with a dark blue, but decided on the more natural color.

I’ve been looking for a Snap-on tool box for awhile. I don’t have much of a budget and I was hoping I could find someone who would barter. I found this KRL-761. I offered him $500 + a vice I recently refurbished. I paid $40 for the Yost vise (I had a neigherbor in high school with the last name Yost and he was an *** so I never liked the vise). He even loaded and delivered!!!

I was really busy doing random jobs to get ready for the baby, but I did manage to get a couple things done in the garage.

So I have this shelving area behind my toolbox that was kinda a catch-all. I built some smaller shelves in the bottom middle to hold screws and other hardware. I also made a couple of other storage areas as well.
attachment.php

Here I made a couple of racks for my clamps. I like the spring clamp one. It was easy and looks good.
attachment.php

I also put in a dust collection system. I'm using 2 inch pipes and a sturdy barrel. The shop vac has enough power to collapse the barrel so I had to put in a ring inside for support. I also added a Thien Baffle inside. I've used it on a couple projects and it work great! Very happy with it.

So I thought my shelves were fine for storing some of my power tools, until I seen some other members put some sliding doors on some of their shelves. THANKS GARAGE JOURNAL...

I have decided I'll need some sliders on my shelf now. I'm planning on doing it this weekend, but here is the before pic.

I just saw your thread for the first time tonight Unruh. I'm very impressed with the resourcefulness, creativity, execution, and follow through you've shown in all your projects. Also, you get a big thumbs up from me for being a good dad.

I just saw your thread for the first time tonight Unruh. I'm very impressed with the resourcefulness, creativity, execution, and follow through you've shown in all your projects. Also, you get a big thumbs up from me for being a good dad.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the kind words, I got really lucky and married a woman that let's me get creative.

Yeah we absolutely have our hands full. I'm a little bit older and wiser this time, so I try to use that to my advantage. The good news is that these little ones keep us young.

As far as the garage goes, I'm really happy with how it is turning out. I do like to browse all the other garage posts and see if I can get an idea or two to take as my own. So many great ideas out there and I don't see any reason to not to try to take advantage of them.
