Started on the motor for my Craftsman Drill Press. I always forget to take good before, during and after pics.

Here is the motor as I was taking it apart. It needed a new switch that seemed to be always in the on position. So to use is I would have to plug it in and unplug it each time. Also I was louder than I was expecting it to be.

And after I got it all painted and put back together. I put in a new switch and replaced the ball bearing. It really purrs now. I'm hopefully gonna be painting the drill press the next couple of days.

Hi, I' really enjoying your thread and shop/projects. I recently bought an old craftsman dp from the 40's I think. I'm looking to do a resto on mine too. Did you take a buffing wheel to that column or use some hand held tool? It's looking great, nice and shiny

I took a drill with a wire brush attachment on it. Then I used an orbital sander starting at 280 and working my way up to 800. Then I used some 1000 wet sand paper at the end. Took awhile, but I was hoping to do it once and be done.

Unruh, I think those old 1/3hp motors were on a different rating system. A new 1/3hp motor today is like the old 1/4hp motors at best.

I painted it two days ago and allowed the paint to dry good. I'm always in such a rush that I seem to mess things up go too quick. In this case I painted then worked on the motor in between. I still need to run down and get some new bolts to mount the motor and a new belt.

Here is the before.

After! I still need to add some handles and some other little cosmetic things, but couldn't be happier.

A little while ago I got an old Chevy tailgate. I was planning on putting in our treehouse or Logan's Garage and use it as a shelf. Our neighbor down the rode was having a yard sale and while I was there I noticed a old bench sitting in back in the weeds. It was really rough, most of the wood was split or broken. I can't remember what I offered, but they told be to just take it. I sanded it up and got this.

Thanks 1/2 Cup!!! Yeah I think it is a lot of fun. It was actually supposed to be in a different place. I called my brother and asked him if he had one and he said he did. He then told me the measurements were 2 X 4. So I had a spot framed up for the tailgate and when I went to install it, it was not simply 2 X 4. I put something else in the spot and had that tailgate sitting around.

Here is the drill press in it's new home. I had a couple of issues and blew the fuse a couple of times. I had to put some tape on some wires inside, but now she runs really nice. A lot quieter than my other one.

Unruh, great projects. Very good quality and craftsmanship. I like the storage cabinets you built and the lumber cart. Great stuff! The bench grinder stand is also very nice.

The project you did with your daughter and the safety sign was very funny. I thought that was great.

I have been saving up for a planer, but I think I'll pass on the combo. I really don't have a lot of extra room and that is going to get even tighter. Thanks for the offer, that was incredibly kind of you.

Thank you! I’m a teacher and had some extra vacation time during Christmas break. Plus my wife is very understanding!

Thanks! I have a friend with a boat and he had some Star Bright Teak Sealer. It goes on really easy.

Just finished reading through your thread. Some really awesome projects, and a great space you have there, Unruh! I really like your garage. It's tidy, organized, attractive, and yet it is still clearly a working garage.

Thank you for stopping by! The garage wasn't very tidy or organized until I found garages like yours on here. I'm just trying to keep up with everyone else...lol.

Went on vacation and was really busy when we got back. I finally was able to get into the garage and get some handles on my drill press. Special thanks to FrankLee for the walk through.

I also made a matching chuck key to go with my handles.

Recently I made the switch to Makita. I’ve been looking on Offer-up, Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist. I came across an add yesterday and jumped at it!! I got a Makita 1/2 Brushless Impact Driver and two 3 hour batteries for $140! The thing looks brand new. She said her husband won them at a raffle.

I actually have a Sears close to me that is still open. I had some points and bought a pack of screwdrivers.

First put a washer on the shaft. This will protect the handle when you are removing it.

Put the shaft of the screwdriver in a vise. Leave about a 1/4 gap between the handle and the vise.

Use two pry bars, one on each side, and slowly and evenly press down.

And you have yourself a handle to do what you like. These types of handles come off really easily.

I had a nice block of Tiger Wood from a project before.

Here they are. I love how they turned out. Can't wait to fire up my Green Mountain Grill this spring.

Sweet. I have some cool ideas for some more projects. This summer I’ll be building a new shed (fingers crossed). That will help clear out my last wall in the garage.

He is getting big. He is 3 now and loves his little garage. I think he will really start to enjoy it though in about a year or so.
