The rebels are unprepared for our attack! Signal Vice-Admiral Thrawn to launch his TIE squadrons immediately!

So I wanted to make something fun! I still should have taken more pictures.

I used wenge and maple. Here are some of the piece while I was building.

Here it is while the glue is drying up.

Unruh,

I just finished going back and reading your entire thread. I discovered I had dropped in occasionally and "borrowed" your Craftsman chuck key idea and I may copy your spring clamp rack as well. I really like the truck play area you made for your son as well as many of your other great projects. Thank you for all the great ideas.

I saw Homer's spice rack on facebook. I thought to myself I bet making it look like that was harder than building a proper one.

Unruh: I bet there will be no end to the projects you create now with your supply of interesting wood products and your creative mind. WELL DONE on all accounts.

I can't recall any of my 5 kids wanting to mow the lawn even though they did now and again so nice work getting your 13 year old to help you and do some for you.

I'm loving this great weather lately after the SEATTLE (PNW) DRIZZLE for 6 months is maybe over. it looks like you are maybe too.

are you and your family safe and in good spirits while waiting for the government around here to give us the ALL CLEAR?

Nicely done :lol_hitti.

Thank you! I had a lot of fun making it, now to sneak it into the kitchen:bounce:

Thank you Jeff! Since I am lacking with imagination, most of my ideas are “borrowed” as well!

That is for sure. It was a lot of head scratching and laughing with the outcome. Really happy with it!

That means a lot! I’m sure some of your ideas have made their way into my place in some way. Thanks for coming back!

We are doing great! My daughter asked if I would help her make a cutting board so that is the plan for Tuesday and Wednesday! I’m more excited that her!

So my 15 year old and I made a cutting board. She picked the woods (maple, walnut, black locust, koa, wenge, and Purple Heart). I had her glue it up and half a gallon later we had full coverage. I also showed her how to wet a washcloth and wipe of the excess.

This photo is after we wiped off the excess!

Here she is picking out a router bit. I'm glad she made a conservative choice and went with a basic 1/4 round over.

Some sanding (80,150,220,320). I wrote pencil on the surface and had her sand until it was gone. I have a sanding station that is hooked up to my dust collector and also a shop vac hooked up directly to the sander.

And her favorite part, putting on the oil. She was so surprised at how the color popped on it!

Drew: AWESOME that your 15 year old daughter likes to hang with you and do some stuff in the garage. i bet she'll be using that cutting board or displaying it for years.

did you mention what kind of oil she's using?

great work and nice that you are just advising so she'll get the hang of using power tools and old school methods too.

half a gallon of glue was maybe a little more than actual, but I hear you.

Nice that you are passing down the woodworking bug.

Bret

Yeah. She wants to be an interior designer/architect, I told her it would be good if she knew how things were made.

We used Mineral Oil. Easy and quick! I’m glad she is showing interest. It’s a lot of fun!

So I guess it has been a long time since I showed some pics of “Logan’s Garage”.

Here you can see the front of his pick-up (He makes sure that you call it a pick-up and not a truck). I'm not really happy with how the front looks yet. I'm planning on adding a bumper and lights.

Here you can see how it needs something.

Now where the magic happens! I’m estimating somewhere around 400 horse power.

A lot of gas has been pumped! He has me ride with him to get ice cream and then we have to fill up before we come home. I'm guessing that pick-up is getting around 3 miles to the gallon?

It was pretty funny, but it is in the garage now. She wasn’t having it!

That's too cool. I watched you build it. Looks like he takes care of his work area, nice and clean

Sent from my SM-A102U using Tapatalk

He does pretty good. It does get pretty dusty. I have to take the leaf blower in every now and then to keep it kinda clean, but he likes to keep everything in it’s spot.

Mother’s Day is coming up. I made a trip out to my local lumber guy. Here are some pictures of his place. Pretty much everything is $5 a board foot. He mills it and Kiln dries it all himself.

I picked out this Cherry board.

attachment.php

Then I cut it into thirds. I only need 1/3, but just in case I have a couple in case I mess up...:wtf:

I been wanting to practice bow ties and the board I want to use has a couple of cracks. I cut out the bow ties out of some Rosewood (I think), and filled the cracks with an epoxy.

attachment.php

Here you can see the color of the cherry with the bow ties after a sanding and am idea of where the letters will go.

attachment.php

And after sanding to 320 and an two applications of some Watco Wipe-on Poly. Here is the finished piece. Well almost, it is still drying.

Unruh: i'd also love to see and hear how you do the bowties on those big slabs of wood when you get time to post up a few more pictures or time.

i'm assuming you trace the bowtie and router in the spot where you glue the bowties in, but i'd like to hear your words.

great source of lumber and i'm sure many more cool projects will come out of your garage/shop.

Logan's garage looks pretty cool too!

That is Bada$$!

Bret

Thanks! I have to justify my tools sometimes and handmade gifts do the job nicely!

Hi are the bowties mounted into the wood? If so how??? Very cool!

First cut the bow ties out of the kind of wood you want. Then I set them on the board where I want them and trace around them with a marking gouge. With a small handheld router take out a bunch of the inside of the bow. Then use some chisels. I need to get a new set that will hold an edge. When it’s snug, glue and sand. Next time I’ll take more pics, I’m really bad at that.

Nice job, Unruh!

Thank you!

Thanks guys. She loved the gift. I made an extra one for one of the families in my class. Her husband went out on a ship and was gone over Mother’s Day. She loved hers as well!

So I bought a new toy. I have a friend that has one of these Carvewright's and he makes some cool stuff with his. I know that the reviews are pretty bad for it, but a lot of them have to do with the software and not the actual machine. So this one came up on Craigslist and I bought it. It came with a lot of upgraded software, so I'm past the first hump.

I need to make a cart for it first. It is pretty heavy. I had this piece of maple that I wasn't sure what to do with. So I tried it for the drawer front. The handle is a piece of KOA
