Long-term, open-door heating option for cheap?

I have a small two car garage.
I hang out in here, watching sports on the TV and smoking my cigs.
And leave the garage door open while my dogs hang out on their chains (they love being outside with me).

Right now I've got a Mr. Heater portable buddy that keeps me warm as long as it's 1' away from me.
But I'd like to open up the prime heating area to about 7' squared so friends can hang out with me and watch sports & smoke their cigs.

Us cig smokers. :lol_hitti

Anyhow, I've got a couple 20lb propane tanks.
But I'm open to changing from propane to 220v if it's cheaper in the long run?
Those are my only two energy options.

What's the cheapest method (long-term) to heat up the middle of my garage during the winter months, while I've got the garage door wide open?
I have no interest in heating the garage with the doors closed.

Would like to stay $100-$200 if at all possible.
Temps dip down to the low 30's here in Central Texas.
It gets colder, but not all that often.

Thanks, I already have a setup for that.

But I'm more often out there with the door wide open and the dogs chained up so they can see the world outside.

I would think you definitely want some form of radiant, infrared heat. If you have the doors wide open, how about one of those propane patio heaters? They get a good size circle around them pretty warm pretty quick! Just not sure about the ins and outs and possible dangers of using one inside a garage even with the doors open.

Why do the doors need to be WIDE open for the Dogs?
Open it far enough for them to get in or out.
Then think about heat.

220v in your garage ?
A plug in heater can be had for a couple hundred bucks that works great. No fumes, no gas bottles.
I have used one to take the chill off here in Chicago(albeit with the door closed) so in Texas I'm guessing you and your smoking pals will be fine. These heat the air so you don't need to be right on top of them like a radiant.
Smoke 'em if you've got 'em!

Have you tryed a patio heater? There designed to be "outside" although i wouldnt consider opening the garage door outside.

Move the chain hook point outside. Close the door.
When you hear scratching or whining, open the door.

Trying to heat the space with the overhead door wide open will be a fruitless task.
