Looking for a Mini split for a 24' x 30' Garage

Garage is detached 24'Wx30'Lx8.5'H. Ceiling is covered with .5" OSB and walls are 2x4 construction and has fiberglass insulation in walls and ceiling. Walls are covered with pegboard. R12 insulated 16'x7' garage door and 2 fiberglass 36" insulated man doors on side and back wall. RaceDeck solid tiles on floor. Not the best but very well insulated no air leaks. I am located in mid lower peninsula Michigan so it gets cold in winter and humid summers. I work on a little bit of everything out there but not full time. Just want it comfortable to work in there.
I would like a Mini Split installed for heat and A/C. Wondering what I should get size wise and brand? What would you do if it was you? Garage is 220v ready also.

Yep, put one in my large attached last summer, purchased it from Costco.

I would not recommend using wall mount brackets for the outside unit. Mine was originally mounted to the wall and vibrated at a certain frequency the whole wall. Mounted it to a free standing stand on a concrete patio stone and now it is silent.

I have a York (Johnson Controls) 24kBTU mini split and my shop is a 24x36 pole barn with r13 wall insulation and 5/8 sheet rock on the walls. I have vinyl faced 4" insulation between the rafters and the whole building was wrapped in double bubble when built. I am in OK and its usually no where near as cold as Mich.

Absolutely, lucky for me that side of the garage is where our daily drivers are parked and I don't work in there. It has a low bass drum sound. Seems to be worse when cooling. The Mitsubishi doesn't make a noise while cooling or heating, it's been there for 7 years.

Thanks for the info so far. I will mount the outside unit on a separate concrete pad behind the garage. The snow never drifts back there.

For your area, make sure you get a unit that will heat well into negative temps. You don't want whatever cheap unit you can find. You need a hyper heat or what ever the manufacturer you pick calls it. Gree makes a Viro-Ultra that will heat to -30F. The Mr Cool Hyper falls off pretty fast after 0F. Find the heating specifications for the brand you are considering.

I won't go cheap. I will look at all options for my area. It gets cold here but not -30F. Maybe wind-chill gets that low once in a while but not that often. I have for 26 years worked for a living outside in these temperatures. I can deal with the cold but I would like my garage to be comfy.

Understand just because they will produce heat to -30F output falls off as the outdoor temps gets colder. A Hyper heat minisplit might not keep up in severe cold. If a minisplit is your only heat source make sure you get the correct one!
