I have been looking at different air compressors, and found the 7.5 hp 80 gallon two stage ingersol rand with 24cfm @175 psi. which seem to be higher in cfm compared to some of the other brands with same tank size ,hp etc.
I feel like this is the one I want to purchase but wanted some other opinions or expertise on air compressors. The ingersol rand model# 2475N7.5 price is 1,985.00 on compressor world and 2,099.99 on air compressors direct free shipping. Thanks

I prefer Quincy over IR. I had a Quincy that was made in the 1950's and had a friend put new rings and valves, it's still running like a champ almost 60 years later!!! BTW, I rescued the pump out of someone's junk pile!! The Quincy will be the last compressor you will have to buy.

BTW, the IR you selected is a 3 phase.

+1 on the Quincy. I have a QT-5 that is +12 years old, still looks and runs like new.

Actually the 2475N7.5 is a 1-phase . The 3-phase245N7.5-230 or
245N7.5-460.
But anyway I appreciate your advise and thoughts. I did look at the "Quincy's"
and guess I am looking at the extra money versus the cfm and the ingersol is advertised as a higher cfm . Not to say the ingersol would outlast the quincy but in a shop that used primarily for personal use I cant really see the extra money.

I just bought a Quincy 5 horse compressor. Check the CFM @ 90 psi and see how the I-R compares to a Quincy rated at the same HP. You won't be using 175 PSI for anything, so the CFM rating at that point just looks like a big number. Heck, I've got a buddy that works for I-R....and he told me to buy a Quincy! I flirted with the gal at Northern Tool, and got the price on the Quincy knocked down to below the I-R price:) Best of luck with whatever you purchase.

I'm happy with my Eaton thus far.
7.5hp motor, 10hp pump (turns ~600rpm), 120gal. tank, auto water drain etc.
Slow and quiet for such a large compressor.
~45cfm @ 90psi

Gardner Denver has a division called Champion that would be worth researching. I have the Advantage series 7.5 HP 80-gal tank unit which includes the mag starter, air cooled aftercooler, pneumatic drain valve, & vibration isolators.

Quincy FTW. We have over $50k in Quincy compressors powering the production floor where I work and they are great, plus the factory support is unbelievable.

I have an Eaton 7.5hp 80gal with the 10hp 4 cylinder pump. Very low RPM and quiet. I have been very happy with it so far. I've only had it since the first of this year. I did a ton of research as well before deciding on Eaton. Nobody could match the performance, added features and best of all the 5 year full warranty. I think you will be happy with your new compressor.

I was at a small parts place today and they had Bel Air compressors. 80gallon single stage 23cfm.. Then I saw that Eaton is just down the road from me... Those are some serious compressors. Good thing delivery isnt an issue....Just back the truck up!

You will be happy. I have the same one and its a really nice (and very quiet) unit. And it's an excellent company to deal with.

bmwguru - you are correct! I missed that one by a mile didn't I... That figure was the ~cfm with BOTH my electric compressors running...

I would like to get another 4cyl pump like we have on our Eatons and run it off my tractor PTO for when I'm using the big sandblaster. It has a minimum cfm rating of 50.
It 'works' with my two electric compressors @ a combined ~45cfm at the 90/100 psi range. But you have to take a short break every 10 minutes or so etc.
