I have outgrown my old craftsman rollaway and am looking to upgrade for my garage/hobby shop. I like the looks of the Snap-on kra 4813 and possibly a 4810 top chest - can anyone give me thier opinion on this unit? I also like the 46" craftsman professional. Any other suggestions in this range......I have had it with "tinny" boxes. I appreciate you comments.

those boxes will last you a life time if you treat them right. might i suggest the krsc46 instead. 1545 and it has a built in prybar/screwdriver rack. more bang for your buck and has a lifetime warranty. I am selling those as fast as I put them on the truck.

many color options as well. krsc46 krsc41 either one works

I really don't know the cost difference but if instead of top and bottom KRA you bought a mid-size KRL bottom you would feel like more of a step up. Not to offend anyone, but to me the KRAs aren't a million miles away from Chicom stuff. Of course you'd have to expand later. Just an idea.

Another vote for the KRSC46. It is a toolbox that is disguised as a cart.

On your label, it does say "assembled", That can mean that it was made elsewhere and put together in the States.
Well it CAN, but let me fill you in on the facts of this case, since you continue to just guess... The box was manufactured in the United States of America. The drawer slides - and only the drawer slides - were sourced from Taiwan on these boxes. That fact alone is what invokes a US Federal Trade Commission requirement to use the terminology "assembled."

Well If he wants to waste money, he can give it to me and I'll kick him in the balls.

Im a firm believer that you can find Tools that are a Matched quality to Snap on for less money.. But If you trying to compare that HF unit to a Snap on Tool box you need a reality check. I agree for the money that HF box is Ok, and i personally own the black roll cart that i picked up for $69 bucks. Where the Snap on Quality comes into play is after 10+ years of actually using your box daily loaded with tools. The HF box is great for a Weekend warrior.. for everyday use.... Im afraid it would start showing its true colors. Snap on has been building boxes for along time, It takes years of trial and error to create a box that will stand up to everyday use.

How about he spends his money the way he wants to and I kick you in the balls.

Thats good stuff....

If thats the case, why do you think they don't source some US slides so they can say the whole thing is made in America? :headscrat
These Classic series boxes are supposed to be entry level and the majority of them go to students at half off, using American made BB slides would probably end up tacking another grand on the price.

I bought a KRA 4813 a few months ago and I am VERY happy with it. The box is head and shoulders above what you would buy at Sears (excl their Pro line), Home Depot, Lowes and Harbor Freight.

With that being said, the only thing I might do differently would be to get the same 40" KRA box, but get the one with the full-length drawers rather than the 30/70 split drawers. It will make it easier to keep all your sockets/drive tools in one drawer, all your wrenches in another, and still have a long drawer available for all that misc ****. If you want an extra deep drawer, buy a side cabinet. If you want some narrow drawers to organize, buy a top with the 30/70 split later on.

Some guys will say to pay the extra cash and go up to a deeper box like the KRL. If you have the cash and the room, it might not be a bad idea. It all depends on what you need it for. But still, that 40" KRA bottom is a nice box.

My dad has a Classic box - it is really nice. The drawers are noticeable deeper, and the slides still feel great. He's had it for about 5-6 years.

I don't really see the difference between the American made slides and the Asian slides - are they made to different specs? I find it hard to believe that Snap-On would jeopardize their reputation for great boxes by putting crappy slides in their KRA boxes.

Are the KRA slides warrantied for life?

4813 (in royal blue), was my 2nd box. My first box was the same size, dimensioanlly, as the 4813, but had the single bay with 7 drawers (forget the model number). I traded up from this to the 4813 hoping to have better organizational skills, but it sorta hurt me due to the double bank configuration lacking some space & most small amounts of tools dominating the available space in the 4813's left smaller drawer setup. Excellent choice, size-quality wise, for a starter, entry level tech, or home use box. I know a lot of the past techs I've worked with have the 4813 and the double bank top chest and call it a day and have had that combo for many years, maybe adding the side box and that's it. The only con I could see is space; depth wise. 19" usable space, can only go so far (for someone that has a somewhat sizble collection of tools). I love that my Classic78 had the added depth, moreso than the wider stance.
It was sorta hard, especially if you want to organize a certain family of tool, say wrenches, to one drawer. Nearly impossibly. I think I'll get a krl one day for the simple fact that I could shove all my wrenches in the wide, shallow top drawer and still have a little room left over.
I think the best part is the wide top drawer & the Snap On paint finish. Very nice.

lol, too late but I agree w/ fastkat's reply. I said pretty much the same deal, oh well...

Necro thread, but I was researching this box. Certainly you cant be serious? Being a wrench for a living, the only guys who can't find a difference in pliers, ratchets, and screw drivers, are the fuys who don't use their tools. Everything else ill gladly buy at Sears.

The KRA were made in Canada for years. I'm pretty sure the Cananda plant was closed a couple years ago and the boxes are made in Iowa now. The KRA is the the best built 40" box made.

cool...just looking at my invoice, they changed the part number slightly too from their current catalogue.

KRA4014FPBO top chest red 4 drawers
KRA4008FPBO roll cab 8 drawers

should be good for my home garage use, not much rolling around and nothing super heavy.

cant wait to see them....
