I am trying to find a 5/8 x 11 rethreading tap. No luck so far. Anyone know where I can get one? I have that size of thread cutting tap, but I prefer not to use that for this project.

Cut some slits in a high grade bolt? Depends on how bad the threads are
The 48 piece master set contains a 5/8-11 die but not a tap.
I would do this. Take a grade 8 bolt and use a cut off wheel at a negative angle to cut 2-3 slits in the fastener

A Thread Forming / Rolling tap is ideal for sizes that the rethreading taps are not available in. Unlike a standard taps these do not cut threads and remove material but they form it into place and actually create stronger threads so they are perfect to use as thread chasers

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to try the grade 8 bolt method first. I'm still learning a lot of this metal working stuff so if I mess it up, I'll still learn something. This is for a bunch of rusty nuts that came off a 1980's Toyota pickup my son is restoring. I am cleaning up the 5/8 nuts and bolts partly for the fun and partly for the practice with thread chasers.

You sure those aren’t metric? I don’t recall much on those early Toyotas not being metric, but didn’t t work on the trucks as much as I did cars.

Any threads on that Yota are definitely metric unless someone's tapped/die'd them different.
BTW, this is a great book for those pickups. Highly recommend saving your son a copy while someone still has it up.

Sorry, I should have elaborated. The bolts were for a wood bed that the previous owner made and put on to replace what the truck came with. My son bought the truck a few months ago and took the wood bed off as it was in terrible condition. He is in the process of fixing the truck up to use for camping and off roading.
