Looking to purchase a set of torx plus socket driver/bits. I have about $50 to spend. Any suggestions? I see Neiko, Atd seem to be in that price range but have no idea if they are junk or not.

VIM makes really nice bit sockets. I have their MMS64 set (MM/SAE Hex, Torx, Tamper Torx, E-Torx) and all the bits have held up nicely. They would be my first choice for Torx Plus when the need arises.

I did not see a torx Plus in the vim mms64. I'll have to check the other sets they have.

Sorry for the confusion. The MMS64 does not have Torx Plus, but that's the set I have first hand experience with. They do have Torx Plus in rail sets, and I think they are included in their Master Torx Set

My apologies for hikacking your thread, but I’ve heard the Torx Plus name thrown around lately. What applications are they used on? I’m assuming automotive... if so, what manufacturers are using them?

Nissan likes them a good bit. First found them on a Frontier flywheel.

I think BMW uses some... but could be remembering wrong.

I borrowed a set from a friend and they fit some fasteners on my Harley quite well. Most people use standard torx but I have found the torx plus to be a more solid fit. I have also found that a Vessel JIS screwdriver works better in most applications on motorcycles.

Years back, I had problems using Torx (read: cheaper star bits) in bolts that should have been T40 or T45. I thought the solution was a TPlus40 bit and when hammered in, they worked well, I thought.

Ultimately, the solution was really to get quality Torx bits that actually fit the bolt properly. Apex was carried at Harry Epstein and I picked up several.

I also noticed the mfgr. changed their bolts so cheaper bits worked better, but so did quality bits.

Lesson learned: try a few different tools if the one that should fit, doesn't. Also, re-evaluate periodically, mid-year changes can hurt, or help.

GM striker bolts, Ford box side bolts, seat belt bolts.

I just bought a Torx Plus set off Amazon from Lisle for around 25-30 bucks, haven't used them yet but seem decent and made in Taiwan.

Does anyone know where the VIM tools set is made?

All my current torx and hex tools are MAC. I have not been happy with them. I see that VIM has a 77 piece set that covers most of what I need. Just not sure about the quality or how they warranty items.

Its my understanding that the MAC tools are just rebranded VIM.

I have a set of MAC Torx impact sockets that are USA made, 2 piece design and probably 15 years old. I just replaced all the insert bits with bits from Gedore that are impact rated bought from KC tools.

New Ford truck bed bolts are 24 inverted Torx Plus
