I think those who voted to change the hot deals thread didnt realize what they were going to get. Seems like it will be more complicated and drive people away from its former user friendly format. Just my thoughts.

Honestly, it seems really easy to me.

In any case, use it for a month. After that time, we will vote again. I have no issue changing it back.

If only there was a way to subscribe and get instant notification on the forum like there is the thread.

I like the idea of separate threads for each deal, so I can easily ignore the multiple posts of Sears/Grainger did/didn't send the ratchets.

But that's totally outweighed by the fact that I can't get instant deal notifications.

Add instant notification when a new thread is created in the hot deals forum, and it would be almost as useful as the hot deals thread.

Why not leave the main forum page open in a separate tab or window and refresh it every so often? It's not instant and it's not an email, but its a way to easily keep up.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Nothing wrong with the "Hot Deals" thread. It was easy to get instant notification and see all deals on the same pages instead of having to click individual threads. I never saw the voting but I definitely would have voted to keep it how it was.

Why not just subscribe to the forum? That should do the trick for ya.

This is way better. Simpler? Maybe not, but deals aren't going to get lost in the chatter, and I'm sure there's a way to set up notifications.

I dont like the new format. They should have left it as is. But made a rule all posts must be a "hot deal" not comments bout hot deals

I thought it would be better, but I'm just not digging the new format. I felt better informed even with all the chatter (which I'll admit to occasionally adding to).

I'm not sure how you could feel any better or less informed - the information is the same. I think the number of separate threads really highlights just how much chatter there was. Now you can take part in the parts of chatter you are interested in.

This new format has saved me a ton of money. Maybe I just don't know how to use it properly and if anyone has figured it out please post.

With the old format I subscribed to the thread and every couple of days I would get an email of some hot deal and I would rush off and buy that product. Now I do not get notices of all the hot deals and I often forget to look at this new section of the forum so I do not see the deals and thus do not buy the products.

The way I figure it in just about a month that we have had this new format I have saved enough money to retire a year earlier than I had planed :lol_hitti

If anyone is keeping track I vote for going back. I really appreciate that folks are willing to try new things in the hope of making the forum better but for me, I vote that we go back to the old way

Huge fan of the new format.... I now I don't have to wade through dozens of irrelevant posts about deals that I never cared about in the first place to see what's useful....

I thank you.
My wallet hates you.

I said it before the change, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Is there less chatter with the new format? No, people still reply to the threads. However, there is a HUGE amount of less deals being posted. It's easier to post a link in a thread with the quick reply, but not many are going to make an entire thread. Is it a lot of work? No, but obviously people aren't doing it.

It wasn't a big deal to scroll down and by the regular posts. The old way was much better and I was never a fan of changing something that didn't have a problem to begin with.

There are fewer deals posted. It's not that the format has changed and the information is still there.

Fewer deals are discussed with the new format.

I liked the old style better as well, but not much to complain about now i guess.

You can subscribe to the entire forum section and it will email/alert you any time a new thread is started or someone posts in it.

Personally I was against the change but I like it now. I really can just ignore the deals I have no concern about, and I dont have to read through the discussions about deals I dont care about. Before I had to skim through them to make sure I wasnt missing a deal.

I find the opinions here interesting. Do you really think there are fewer deals posted, because of one extra click? I think it FEELS like there are less deals posted, because there's so much less noise. The old thread could easily go through 3 pages of "I got my shipment," "They cancelled my order of $150 worth of shtuff for $3.50," and "Sears is Made In China now" messages between deals.

I'd really like to hear from anyone who had a deal, that would have posted it before, that won't post it now....

yup... used to post deals i came across all the time

then all the pedantic demands came of how exactly you were to post a deal came out especially by people who never bothered to post one deal.

each demand was more pedantic and ludicrous in the rules section

in my opinion, as always, the takers, not the contributors rule the day

so I can't be bothered to post any deals now

the old way thread was better - the constant chatter made it alive

Definitely fewer deals posted on average.

I think i've bought maybe... 3 things since the format changed. I used to buy 3-5 things a week with the old format.

I mean... a whopping 3-5 new threads a day created? Used to be days where the deal thread would grow 10 pages in one day, 10-20 deals.

Yes, the chatter could get annoying, but it's pretty easy to deal with it if becomes too much. (It's simple, just hit the "back" button on your browser.)

I'm not mad either way. New format is good, content *****. Old format sucked a bit, content was awesome.

6 in one hand, half dozen in the other.

Well if people are refusing to post "hot deals" they find because of all the "extra" work involved with creating a new thread, that just seems kind of lazy to me. I personally find the new format better. At various times when it was discussed before the change, I was on the fence and could see the pros/cons of each.

As time went by though, I grew more in favor of the new format and welcomed it once it arrived. I find it to be far more beneficial and much easier to wade through deals that I may or may not be interested in.

Mindless chatter about deals is going to happen, regardless of how many rules are put into place...it's just far too difficult to enforce. But, in my opinion, this new format is better because now I don't have to wade through 4 pages of chatter to see the next deal. I simply open a thread b/c the deal looks promising or intriguing and move onto the next thread.

To each their own.
