Looking to buy a new compressor

OK. I'll admit that the "dropped compressor" thread got me a little scared. I got the compressor that I am using 3rd hand. It has a drain in the bottom but had gotten clogged several times with rust as I am draining it. Tank is rusting from the inside out. So.....

I am considering a new compressor. I currently have a single stage with a 80 gallon vertical tank. I need and use air for painting projects, running air tools, light sandblasting in a cabinet etc. Since I don't have a lot of money I am considering the offerings at HF. What are the opinions of the group? I would like to hold 120 PSI. What should I be looking for and what should I avoid? I work in the garage daily in the summer and the compressor will see a lot of use. I am going to cut a hole in the side of the old tank to ensure it is not resold to some unsuspecting person and have it blow up on them.

Is there another route other than HF that I should look at. Money is a consideration. Power is 220V single phase. I like the ability to go to the brick and mortar store and lay hands on them but will order online if I can get a better unit and price.

Thank you !

Not to be flippant, but have you searched the threads here yet? This question has been asked and answered many times over. The only "new" news on the compressor front is that HF has apparently changed the pump that they used on one of their models from a 2-stage two cylinder pump to a 3-cylinder single-stage type, which works fine if you need more airflow and don't require pressure higher than 120psi.

If price is an issue, for your needs I'd say that you're going to have to go used - what is your maximum price? Nobody can answer your question without that. New, you're looking at $800 minimum.

I have heard alot of good about Rol Air compressors, i have one of their gas ones and love it. Also know several who people who have their electric ones(60-80 gallons) and really like them. A good place to do some looking and pricing would be http://www.aircompressorsdirect.com/ thats where i did research and decided on getting my current compressor (also my first compressor) although i did not purchase from them because i found a better price elsewhere. Quincy is known for good compressors as well. Hope this helps-Jake

It would also help to know if your current compressor has enough air delivery or you need more and what CFM it makes at 90PSI.
