Hi Guys, So I have been wanting to collect some screw starters simply because I do find I could use them often.

Any advise on brand to look for?

I do prefer USA/ Canada Products.

Here are some examples I came across I just don't know whats good.

If you want US, I would go with Snap On, but they are very expensive. Out of US, look at Wiha, Wera and PB Swiss. The first two are made Germany and PB Swiss is made in Switzerland. I would recommend you watch the screwdriver comparison by Project Farm on YouTube. He does some excellent comparisons. Less expensive brands that are good are GearWrench, Milwaukee. I also like the feel of SK Tools geen ones. I bought a bunch of screwdrivers last year and did a ton of research.

the old craftsman screw holding screwdrivers are good enough if you don’t mind hunting them down on eBay

I have a couple of the VACO 5/16” ones. They are, or were, on my union’s tool list. I rarely ever used mine.

I have a couple or three of the Ullman type. They work fine for the rare times I've needed them.

^ That Proto unit was probably made by Ullman Devices or SE Tools - the two manufacturers who supply those gizmos to everybody.

This is one of those deals where brand name doesn't make it better.

I bet they are! I had never even heard of Ullman in the 90’s when I was using screw starters. Half price!

I used the red handle Vacos for years at the phone company. They made the job of installing jacks and face plates a whole lot faster and easier. Retired from from Quest 15 years ago and last year I bought another set of Vacos off Amazon. Still great quality. They only work on slotted screws. For Phillips screws I use a holder Made by Klein.

I noticed that about the vaco ones being more for slotted.

I like the se set since they look like a nice general complete set.

the ullman and 50 other brands seam to be the same.
