There is usually always a little section in the paint dept where they sell their mistints and returns. Lots of cheap paint if you're not picky about the color.

When Lowes close out a paint line they tint all of the cans three specific ugly tan colors, which change over time. That way they can still sell the paint, don't have to deal with hazardous material disposal costs, but don't lose sales of full-priced paint to people that want specific colors.

Just in case you were wondering if your landlord was color-blind or just had bad taste, no, they just bought close-out paint.

I picked up one of their Bessy 5" multipurpose vises for $45 yesterday. Was the display model, and asked the manager for a deal on it. I would prefer an older US vise but can't find any locally that aren't stupid expensive, this will do for now.

Lowe's is showing a 40 pc Kobalt ratchet set for $20. 3/8ths ratchet with an extension and 38 sockets.

http://www.lowes.com/ProductDisplay...&cm_mmc=AFF_CJ-_-2187655-_-1916129-_-10926682

None available around me (West Michigan), but maybe a couple of you guys can score one.

Picked up 7 (!) over the past few weeks. I bought the first one to put in the trunk of my Miata, then two more a week later for my sons. Saw that they were in stock in a store that I had to pass for an appointment, went in and bought four more -- one for my truck and one for my econobox, and a couple more for Christmas presents. Very good deal! :D

Aren't they 12-point? I was tempted but was not sure if I wanted to to buy 12 point set.

Yeah, but 20 bucks! For an emergency set of tools, what the hey!

I saw the 40 piece set today at a lowes. It appears as though this may be a Father's Day deal, they had about 40 sets in a three tiered display. All marked $19.97.

Is this the one that comes with the free stackable screwdriver set? I think that's the one. I think they are 6 point as well. Saw it in the ad when I was there.

Have those razor cutters in the box (1 large 1 small with both holsters) for 6.50. Bought a box. Come with extra blades too but have no idea about the "retractable measuring tape" can't figure that one out and no instructions. You can swing out the bottom jaw and use these as saws but you have to buy the serrated blades separately.

LOL those are the biggest piles of ****. The near useless measuring tape is in the handle.

My wife's grandparents bought me, my father in law, and my brother in law a set for Christmas. I looked at it as Yippee! I get to take them back for $15 or so in store credit! Next thing I know, I look over and my brother in law is using his set to open my set (which they failed miserably at...but did manage to mangle the packaging...**** guess I'm keeping them now.

The ONLY thing they have been successful at cutting well so far is rubber hose, anything else and I'd have rather used either a knife or a pair of shears.

I didn't see any of the stackable screwdriver sets, but I think the Lowe's I was at jumped the fun on the father's day promos.

I think the one you're thinking of is a 30 pc that has a ratchet with an adjustable wrench as its handle. It's in the new ad with a free something or other driver set. I deleted the email with the ad, so I don't have the item #.

The 40 pc is a pretty comprehensive 12 pt 3/8 set with shallows and deeps. No filler tools. Item 338512. My store just got another shipment of them after being sold out for a while. I don't know whether it's just a promotion or the leftovers in a distribution center being cleared out.

They seem okay to me man (comparable to my husky cutters). Granted I'm not everybody on here but...should be good for cutting clamshells, rope, anything pliable (rubber), boxes, etc; I just bought them though I doubt there's much of a cutting difference besides the length of the blade on the big one.:headscrat I tend to use things for the hell of it though.:bounce:

And...yeah I checked the set it's the one with the ratchet with the adjustable wrench on the other side. No clue who's designing these but it's pretty funny. I guess homeowners might find that useful same as the stacking screwdrivers but I got enough low end stuff and this set is 99.9% chinese but still somewhat of a deal if you like the kobalt stuff.

I bit on the kobalt 40 piece socket set for 19.99.

They are made in Taiwan. Appearance is good. Haven't cranked a bolt with them.

I plan on making them my Jeep sockets. I like the case because you can see anything missing at a glance.

I'll be picking ups sets for dad and my brother later.

I picked up a set of these a few weeks ago. They seem to be well made, and I'm keeping them in my truck toolbox for "on the road" repairs.

Review:
Just wish they had marked top on the case. If it is opened the wrong way, you'll have a socket all over your work space.

This review from the site is accurate. Mark the top with a Sharpie after you dump them the first time.

I've been watching the bessey clamps in my area as well. Found one store today had everything that was bessey marked down 70-75% Wood clamps, c-clamps, pipe, vices, gator jaw etc.

I grabbed $100 bucks worth as well :D

If you care,
skinny beam wood clamps - made in China
thick beam wood clamps - made in Germany
thick beam block head clamps - Assembled in USA with foreign parts

The Bessey at my store got another price cut yesterday or today. When I saw the new prices, I had to run back up front to get a cart. I only got $50 worth, though. It's all about 75% off now.

I picked up a single 50" Bessey Revo parallel clamp at Lowe's last PM for about $22. Normally the 50" clamp is $57 at Amazon. My clamp was missing an outside jaw pad and the two rail protectors. Will look at other stores for more clamps.

Just curious, what are the 50' parallel clamps are going for?
The 50" was around $10 in my store...now a 50', I'm not sure, I don't think I have a trailer long enough to haul that home anyway.

I'm going to go back for another woodworker's vise. After opening up the one I bought and playing with it, I'd like to put two on the workbench; they appear to be decent.
